Back in the 70's I used to be a rabid NY Rangers hockey fanatic.

The Rangers were a good team, they had a defenseman named Brad Park and a goalie named Eddie Giacoman, and a group of good skaters who played a decent brand of hockey.

Another team, the Philadelphia Flyers, started a new brand of hockey around that time. They were the first team to hire goons for the purpose of intimidating opponents, engaging in fights, and generally forsaking the game of hockey in favor of fisticuffs. The Flyers had some talent, Bobby Clarke comes to mind, but their strategy was to knock the shit out of their opponents often enough that the opponent was unable to play hockey. The Flyers found great success with this formula, but eventually everyone hired their own goon squad and hockey has never been the same.

In other sports we see examples of teams who cannot compete on skill, so they choose to disrupt the game enough to sneak in with a victory. For some, that's OK, for others, not so much.

Hillary Clinton's campaign for the Democratic nomination is reminiscent of the Philadelphia Flyers of the 70's. The Broad Street Bullies, as they were called. She learned early on that the more America saw of her, the less they liked. The more they learned of her decision making, the less they liked. She clearly could never win this nomination based on what she can inherently bring to the office. So what was the only solution. Mess up the game. Ignore the rules, start fights, manufacture outrage and in general bring the entire process into the gutter.

She has won a couple of games with this approach. (Although she is not beyond vote-rigging).

For you Hillary supporters, enjoy your moment of euphoria. Celebrate the bloody noses because...hey, that's politics...but I would say that it will be almost worth the price her presidency would cost us just to watch you all when you realize that if she is willing to do ANYTHING to get elected, she will do ANYTHING after she is elected.

Senator Obama, I understand that you don't want to get in the mud with her. And for that I respect you and you have my vote.

2. I Too Loved The Rangers In The 70's
My dad played semi pro hockey in the 60's. I know exactly what you are talking about. Hillary and her goon squad are as nasty as they come. And as talentless.

7. I love the Rangers!
My parents are greek and lived in NYC. My dad became a Ranger fan because of a Greek player that played for the Rangers (Nick Fotiu). I am not a Rangers fan and I somehow hope we get George Parros. :D

9. I meant to say that I am now a Rangers fan.
Oops... My dad owned a coffee shop by the empire state building. Fotiu used to come in there. I found some Fotiu fight videos while searching on google.

12. The place was called Donut Whirl
It was on 5th just south from the ESB. There used to be a McDonalds on the corner. I think there's a White Castle in that spot now, or it was on the next block that is new construction.

Maybe you did. He sold it in 1983. It was so cool that my dad knew the city. I work here now.

14. Lucky you. I worked down on Wall st. for a few years and then on 46th and 6th
and I actually remember the Donut Whirl.

If I could afford to live in a nice place in Manhattan I would jump at the chance to come back "home" from Atlanta. Ahhh, I can smell the steam coming out form the pavement and I can taste a street falafel!!

13. Shit, you're bringing me back to the good old days of hockey,
the bench-clearing brawls, no instigator rule, real hockey where there were very few cheap shots and when there were, justice was metted out on the spot. Today's game is watered-down.

16. The Flyers won back to back Stanley Cups in the 70s.
Rangers had to wait another 20 years.

He'll only be 66.
