A scrappy newcomer throws his hat into the ring speaking of change.

A struggle between the party establishment versus new blood vying for change.

A close primary that leads to a brokered convention.

Dems fighting with each other (like always) while republicans have a nominee early.

A moderate republican nominee beats an evangelical preacher, and must deal with concerns from the far right.

Plus more...

West Wing is still probably my favorite shows of all time. Funny how the chips fell...

3. While sitting around drinking Texas beer where do you
think these Neo Cons get their ideas? They couldn't qualify for West Wing since they'd have to be sane and not drunk.

But if you are an Obama supporter, you probably want things to play out here the way they did on the West Wing.

5. I was thinking about that last night (and rewatched the convention episode)
McCain totally resembles Arnold Vinick, and the Democratic primary process has been so similar to West Wing it's scary. Except we could end up with a scenario in which the candidates switch roles:

Obama was clearly Matt Santos in the beginning, starting out as the underdog against a well-known, well-established candidate and pulling off upset victories. But ironically, it may be Clinton who wins the later states while Obama goes into the convention with more delegates. Santos won a lot of the big states, while Russell had more delegates from victories in small states.

In every other way though, Obama resembles Santos. Young, charismatic, charged with being too inexperienced, starting out as the underdog, the first of a minority group to have a shot at the presidency.

Watching the 6th season of West Wing a few months ago made part of me wish for a brokered convention, not thinking it could ever actually happen. Part of me would like to see it go to the convention because it would be interesting, but I also recognize that we need a nominee before they can tear each other apart.
