My beef with Hillary is the same one I have with Lieberman

Hillary's attitude is starting to remind me of the same sort of thing that took over Lieberman. The sense of entitlement to "turn-based" politics, as in "it is my turn to rule, and I WILL NOT abdicate my entitlement to the throne." Lieberman was essentially saying the same thing when he ran as an independent against Lamont. Rather than simply step aside as was the will of the voters of the party, as they had spoken, he instead decided to run as an independent.

Yes. He did win.

I mean, we know just how pissed off we were at Lieberman because he was putting his own political desires above his party's fairly elected choice for nominee. That he went off on his own and decided that the party was holding him back because he didn't get his entitlement, well that was it for him in my book, screw who he chooses to caucus with now or in the future. We know now that we cannot count on him to advance the progressive platform (not that we ever could, but at least he was there in the headcount), in fact, we know now that he has no interest in it at all.

But he did succeed in his bid for his old job, and therein lies the scare. With thinly veiled McCain endorsements issuing forth from Hillary, one wonders if she doesn't share in the belief of the general principles that inspired the 2006 Lieberman Defection. Does she also think that it is her turn to rule, being threatened with a takeaway by a strong challenger? If she does not get the nomination (and there's an excellent chance she won't), will she possibly attempt to duplicate the events of Joe Lieberman's 2006 run as an independent?

If that were to come to pass, we all know the outcome would be a debacle, and hopefully she will too. If this tragic state of affairs would come to pass, the Hillary faithful would split the Dem vote by a decent margin allowing McCain an easy victory.

A reasonable part of me wants to say that Hillary is, when it is all said and done, capable of taking a defeat gracefully and supporting her challenger's nomination. The mistrustful part of me sees the look in her face, parses the tone of her remarks, looks at the attacks that she has made and becomes very concerned about what happens if/when Obama wins.

Even when I think about those things and the obviousness of the results of such an ill-calculated act and the fact that I know that her strong intelligence MUST let her see the results as clearly as I do, I still wouldn't put it past her. Something in her character tells me that she thinks it's her time and won't be denied her time even if the primaries deny it for her.

Note to the Hillary faithful: I hope I am dead wrong about this, so please don't flame me too bad. Just in case, let me go quick put on my asbestos underwear.

If she thought that she could split the vote 3 ways and have a shot, you know she would do it.

That she can gather McCain's moderates for herself. I firmly believe that she cannot do this and I'm sure she does too. What would happen is likely a Dem vote split favoring McCain. I think she knows that. I HOPE she knows that.
