I Don't Tell People About DU Anymore.
I used to tell pretty much every progressive I encountered about DU. I even had a DU bumper sticker on my car. Now I don't tell anyone about this place, for fear that they might actually come here.

Has anyone else had a similar change of heart?

1. Yep.

DU has become the internet's premier source for hateful nonsense spewed at Democrats.

I'm back at DU because as bad as it has gotten it doesn't hold a candle to daily kos in the hatred and troll department.

21. I guess there is a lot of hate for clinton out there...I know why.. we
just don't want her for president...I used to really like hillary..but after she became senator she voted so Lieberman.. I can see why she likes mc cain...he is all war all the time and Lieberman endorsed him and so did hillary...I feel in my heart that she is really bad of this country and that is why I get very upset with her..I am a Obama supporter and am not sure what he is going to do if he becomes president but I do know what hillery will do. I believe if hillary get the nomination and wins the presidency many of her followers will get a first hand chance to find out that if you like whats going on now will probably stay pretty close to the same...

23. Hillary and Obama's voting records are very similar
So I guess you think Obama voted all Lieberman, too - or, like his MENTOR.

For that matter, even though I have no love lost for Lieberman, he doesn't have the worst voting record in the Senate, and is strong on issues like the environment and choice.

25. I"m really not trying to pick a fight...Obama did speak out about
the war before it was a popular thing to do...do you know of any other close ties that Obama has with Lieberman...I know he was chose to be mentor by Lieberman and he very well might like him, but I do not think he still wants to go the way of Lieberman...war, and endless war...again this is not to pick a fight...I was just trying to let you know how some of us feel...and when tempers start...

And you read much the same, "I don't tell anyone about dKos anymore" posts. I'm guessing the same thing is going on with most liberal blogs.

what's wrong with people? Is it just plain anger, exhaustion? Something about the behaviour is
really weird, offbase-so far offbase. Could it just be a lot of trolls in disguise?

9. Look how much negative things Hillary does and even
hurts this web site.

Did you ever notice how whenever the Clintons go, all kinds of problems start happening. You should ask the people at Rose Law firm how they feel.

And I know a few very good souls who have left after being disemboweled here. DU, not for the faint of heart. I hope that after the GE candidate is voted in that we can settle down here. And of course if we are playing by the rules we will add that there is still a lot of good here. Peace, Kim

12. We at DU came together the day of Bush's first inauguration.
Edited on Fri Mar-07-08 05:45 PM by VolcanoJen
I'll never forget that day... watching television, miserable and grumpy, seeing this crook become President, feeling alone and isolated in southwestern Ohio Wingnuttia, and seeing, within the parade route, this huge, waving banner that read "Democratic Underground.com."

I signed on that very day. It was a wonderful moment and I think about every time I get pissed off with this place.

We're at our best when we're united and hitting the enemy. I can't wait till this shit is over so we can go after John McCain.

19. just an idea...
from an article I just read:

"If history is any indication, we may be on the road to violent revolution. We got here because of the conservatives' war against liberal government."

"Those who make peaceful evolution impossible make violent revolution inevitable." -- John F. Kennedy

? just a thought, I know it sounds way sinister... but there's been so much happening in our country and world the last 8 to 10 years, and no one does anything about it. Maybe the majority of people are just fed up but not quite sure what to do about it.

22. hell no!
I rarely come here myself and, when I do, it's usually to Post in other forums.

But I can always tell when the Clinton Campaign is doing well by the hysterically -- and hysterically funny in their desperation -- anti-Clinton Threads that start springing up like weeds. No need to read them. Just seeing them there tells me Hillary hit a very sensitive nerve and so I go and look to other sites to see what nerve was hit, how and how bad Barack's bleeding is.

But, no, I don't tell anyone about DU anymore.

I even used to send reporters here for the news. Now I would never do that for fear of losing my credibility.

30. I tell no one.
I erase my history when I leave work, I seek other sources not connected to the site, etc. It's embarrassing.

Heck, I sometimes wonder why I'm here, and I like both candidates. The things that mods are letting people get away with is incredible. Much of it has zero merit and only serves to further divide. People talking about fellow Democrats as being "wastes of air" and "lower than sh*t" and other things I won't repeat - this should have no place here on this website. Or so I thought.

In many cases, silence denotes approval.. which is the only conclusion I can garner from how the mods are treating things around here.

(And this is the part where some smart-alec points me to the door.)

37. I agree, I think it's a modding issue
I think if this season has demonstrated anything, it's that delegating moderation to more paid staff rather than overburdened volunteers might be a good idea; smaller boards can depend on the kindness of strangers, but for a community of this size it just isn't working any more. I'd gladly donate more often if it meant the big boards don't turn into free-fire zones.

36. Speaking for myself ...
I recommend DU to others as the home of the Democratic wing of the Democratic party. I am proud of this place. I am proud of its openness. I am proud that, more or less, the admins and mods have resisted repeated calls for greater censorship from those who would silence political speech they don't like (even nasty, mean, passionate speech). This is where true Democrats come to fight about the future of our party and our country. And, yes. We fight ... because our party and our country are important to us.

If you want a place where everyone walks in lock step formation, you will have to look elsewhere.

And thank goodness!

Even at its worst, I am proud to be a member of DU!

-Laelth
