Little Girl in 3am Red Phone Ad Supports Obama
Local girl makes unexpected appearance in Hillary ad

11:14 PM PST on Friday, March 7, 2008

By ELISA HAHN / KING 5 News

BONNEY LAKE, Wash. – The political ad that sparked nationwide controversy turns out to have a surprising local connection.

One of the actors in the Hillary Clinton ad was shocked to see herself, especially because she's a fierce supporter of Barack Obama.

The so-called "red-phone ad" played a big role in Clinton's win in Texas, suggesting Barack Obama is too inexperienced to handle a national crisis.

But the young girl starring in the ad will actually be voting age next month and says she's no fan of Hillary Clinton.

Thursday night, the Knowles family of Bonney Lake, Wash., watched the John Stewart Show and saw the ad for the first time.

"I looked and saw a girl that looked like my sister and we rewound it and sure enough it was my sister," said Brady Knowles.

The first girl in the ad is young Casey Knowles. It's stock footage from 8 years ago when she worked as a TV extra - footage owned now by Getty Images and used by the Clinton campaign.

But they couldn't have picked a more unwilling star.

"It's really sort of ironic that my image would be used to advocate for Hillary when I myself do not," said Casey.

She may only be 17, but Casey has some very strong political opinions. She turns 18 - legal voting age - in April, in plenty of time before the general election.

"It's perfect timing because I have a candidate that I really identify with," she said.

56. Remember Gore and the "RATS" ad?
http://archives.cnn.com/2000/ALLPOLITICS/stories/09/12/bush.ad/

Republican presidential nominee George W. Bush said Tuesday he was "convinced" an ad placed by the Republican National Committee that flashes the word "RATS" over a Gore prescription drug proposal was not intended to send a subliminal message.

"We don't need to play cute politics. We're going to win this election based upon issues," Bush told reporters in Orlando.

Democratic presidential nominee Al Gore's campaign contacted news organizations about an RNC ad in which the word "RATS" appears briefly on screen in a spot that criticizes Gore's prescription drug plan. A spokesman for the Texas governor on Tuesday brushed aside suggestions of subliminal advertising as "bizarre and weird," while the RNC had no immediate comment.

CNN slowed down a copy of the ad, and the word "RATS" clearly appeared on the screen in large, white letters superimposed over the words "The Gore Prescription Plan." In a fraction of a second, the word disappeared, and the words "BUREAUCRATS DECIDE" showed up in smaller letters. To viewers aware of the presence of the word, it is noticeable when the ad is played at normal speed.

17. The girl appeared as a real goofball when interviewed. She's just a juvenile gold digger
taking advantage of the break that she got from being on a TV ad and now she's trying to turn it into some easy cash by making headlines. After listening to her speak, she doesn't have a prayer in making any extra bucks from this. The kid is a real dummy and her only future is to make more commercials showing her sleeping but not speaking.

Why don't you want young people involved in politics? Obama is giving a much needed transfusion of youthful participation to a very stagnant party.

I am a 63 years young Democrat that couldn't be happier. It reminds me of when I started working in the party at age 15 for John Kennedy.

If you can't have basic respect for a young person then you do not need to be taken for anything more than bullcrap in my view.

Instead of debating her on the issues of the film you want to make fucked up comments and attack her age.

And Clinton Supporters wonder why the youth vote supports Obama mostly.

94. HRCer can say "pimped out" about a 17 yr. old; but don't say that re 28 yr. old little Chelsea.
I was thinking just the other day that Monica was 21/22 when she was held up to international ridicule because of her fling with sex addict Bill Clinton. Bill never owned up to his role in pursuing/encouraging a very young woman. He spoke of her with contempt: "I never had sex with THAT WOMAN." Yet if a reporter uses a current slang phrase, "pimped out" about Hillary's TWENTY EIGHT YEAR OLD daughter, re: making phone calls to famous people (who HRC knows only accept Chelsea's calls because of who her mother is), Hillary screeches like it's child abuse.

60. Welcome to my Ignore list! DemVet!!
I guess this is a good time to get all you ageist pieces of filth in my view, into my ignore list.

WTF is with the discrimination in the Clinton Camp? How am I supposed to believe that racism and sexism is not rampant in her camp when ageism seems to be rampant?

Let me clue you in. Ageism is just as socially unacceptable as Racism or Sexism. Until you get that through your head you can take your crap elseware.

78. she never agreed to be in the ad, she is 18 now
the footage is from almost 10 years ago when she was an extra in something. the clinton campaign didn't ask(didn't need) her permission.

80. What the hell is wrong with you?
The footage used was shot 8 years ago and has been owned by Getty Images.

The young woman in question did not (as you so nicely put it) pimp herself out for a few bucks.

"It's stock footage from 8 years ago when she worked as a TV extra"

Reading the OP is always recommended.

Its not her character that has problems.

And I can understand why. :)
Its a bloody good - and funny - story.

Sure, its not saying anything about either candidate really. Still a coincidence thats quite hillarious. (no pun intended)

what will hillary do.... roll over pick up the phone and yell "it's f(*&^ 3a.m., just rinse your pecker off and get you ex-presidential ass back to bed!!!"

what will obama do.... we'll have to see

88. Stock Footage
The Clinton "skydiver" ad also looked like stock footage. Does this say anything about the campaign's ad budget?

(Or is opening a national political ad with a big chunk of stock footage normal?)

96. Potential gold for the Obama campaign
Edited on Sun Mar-09-08 10:06 AM by minnesota_liberal
I've seem many posts about it not being news that a 17-year-old supports Obama, snide remarks from those who don't understand what stock footage is and attempts to devalue the political opinions of Casey and others her age.

Their authors are either clueless or intentionally trying to cloud the discussion.

Besides the human interest component, the real story here is that Miss Knowles has offered to help her candidate by making an ad that could score some big political points and potentially alter the momentum Clinton has enjoyed recently.
