Hillary Clinton's "My Lai" Strategy? She's Destroying the Party to Save It

She's destroying the party in order to save it….that seems to be the conclusion of a some opinion writers today…

Obama-backing former Sen. Gary Hary writes: "It will come as a surprise to many people that there are rules in politics. Most of those rules are unwritten and are based on common understandings, acceptable practices, and the best interest of the political party a candidate seeks to lead. One of those rules is this: Do not provide ammunition to the opposition party that can be used to destroy your party's nominee. This is a hyper-truth where the presidential contest is concerned.

"By saying that only she and John McCain are qualified to lead the country, particularly in times of crisis, Hillary Clinton has broken that rule, severely damaged the Democratic candidate who may well be the party's nominee, and, perhaps most ominously, revealed the unlimited lengths to which she will go to achieve power. She has essentially said that the Democratic party deserves to lose unless it nominates her."

Jonathan Chait notes that "Pennsylvania is a swing state that Democrats will almost certainly need to win in November, and Clinton will spend seven weeks and millions of dollars there making the case that Obama is unfit to set foot in the White House. You couldn't create a more damaging scenario if you tried.

"Imagine in 2000, or 2004, that George W. Bush faced a primary fight that came down to Florida (his November must-win state). Imagine his opponent decided to spend seven weeks pounding home the theme that Bush had a dangerous plan to privatize Social Security. Would this have improved Bush's chances of defeating the Democrats? Would his party have stood for it?"

way of saying what she is doing is "If you can't beat them, join them" as she uses the scorched earth policy on her natural allies rather than the opposition. You have to wonder how she chose the Democrat party as her base of operations rather than staying with the Republicans she favored in her younger days.

This is an outrage! I'll be reporting this to the abc administrators.

As a Veteran of the United States Army, I am appalled by this article for making reference to such a terrible and unfortunate event.

No reporter of any credited establishment should be allowed to use such ill-mannered terms that represent a time of such civil and political peril as that which our great country and countries around the world suffered during the Viet Nam war.

What happened in My Lai was a terrible and tragic event. Furthermore, it is completely disrespectful and with utter distaste, to both those who lost their lives during the event, to the United States Armed Forces, and to anyone else who aims to protect the American way of life and Constitution for a news agency to make any comparison of the May Lei tragedy to the proceedings of our selection of an American President.

The seriousness of this issue is further amplified by the fact that our American troops are currently thrust into a Wartime situation, which continues to take American and other's lives without regard to the presidential race.

Shame on ABC and any other news agency that condones such behavior of their political reporters. Such distaste should not be tolerated by any American that is so privileged by the benefit of our Constitution and our way of life, and by the blood that has been spilled in our journey to this moment.

Obama with his attempt to pander to independent and homophobic assholes will destroy the party. We DO NOT NEED to "come together" with Republicans- we need o drive those asshole out of town a rail. Reach out to the other side and you will likely bring back a stump.

...most famously by pretending Bill Clinton said that we should slow the economy to fight global warming, when Bill Clinton said the opposite.

There is nothing surprising about a negative post about Hillary Clinton from Jake Tapper.
