Clinton Voter Base : White People Who Cant Caucus
I just saw her giving a speech in Wyoming where she claims that she has an uphill battle because its a caucus state. She says many of her supporters have never caucused before, dont know what to do during a caucus. Also claims that they cant caucus because they have to work. Do Obama supporters have to work? Apparently not acording to Hillarys argument.

She claims she has an uphill battle in Mississippi. Its because of the large proportion of black voters in the state who tend to vote for Obama in overwhelming numbers.

That only leaves White people who cant caucus as her base of support.

Why is it so hard for Hillary supporters to caucus but so easy for Obama supporters? They both have cars. They both have legs. They probably have brains. They most likely have voices. So what is the difference that makes Caucuses so unfair to Hillary supporters, a demographic that is apparently to inept to show up for a caucus, completely rendering them unfair?

3. I saw that too and was puzzled - she was insulting her supporters and they were cheering.
Edited on Sat Mar-08-08 05:36 PM by sparosnare
Here's what I've deduced. Hillary supporters are looking to her to take care of them and fix stuff cause they feel so helpless (kinda like GWB supporters).

Obama supporters want to work with him on problems and aren't looking for him to have all the answers; they are masters of their own destinies.

50. That's not what I see!
I see the Obama surrogates as thinking Barack is the next coming of the Messiah. Eloquent, verbose rhetoric coming from an accomplished orator who really says nothing of substance. Hope? Try putting Hope in one hand and feces in the other hand and see what you get! You guys are like rats lead by the Pied Piper from Illinois. Face it, he is just another politician who has avoided voting on controversial issues. So sorry.

4. She claims she is at a disadvantage because of the black voters.
And she also claims that people who have jobs can't go to caucuses. Is this just a lousy, lame excuse, or is there also a bit of veiled racism here?

People who read newspapers and books, pay attention and are active constantly whether there is an election looming or not heavily lean toward Obama

6. My, aren't we insulting today?
"White people who can't caucus"-- you actually aren't aware of what you said? :puke:

Why is that okay, but if I started off a post, "Black people can't...", I'd get my ass kicked faster than you can say "dumbass"?

Just the fact that you draw lines like these proves you don't have the faintest idea what the word caucus means.

21. omg your sig is from a Morrissey song!
I know that song - "disappointed"

Yeah I am aware of what I said. But since you have a Morrissey quote Im going to hijack this and turn it back on you. Dare I say , "Svengali in Platforms"? "he only wants to embrace your culture"..... hmmm? "life is hard enough when you belong here".... hmm? "shelve your western plans"? eh?

Anywho, that is her base. White people, of which I am one, that cant caucus. I can say lots of things about white people because I am one. I can say the White Man destroyed the Native American way of life. I can say with conviction that white people have owned this country since day one. I can say that white people have tended towards racisim.

I am voting for a black man with a black wife and black children because I despise the white woman that is running... but I am not doing so because he is black and not because she is white. I am doing so because he speaks from his heart, his convictions are strong, his wife is phenomenal. I am voting for the soul that resides within the human form that they are. I am voting for the essence of who he is. Its just an added bouns to me that racist consciousness of this nation gets a slap in its unjust face when we have a black man as president. Its a bouns that after 200+ years of white man in power that my white son can grow up in a world where that reality is gone and that he can see that with living proof that anyone can do anything.

You see I dont care if someone is black or white or hispanic or asian. I dont care if someone has a penis or a vagina or both or neither. I care about who that person is underneath the surface. And I would never claim that black people can or cant do something because I am not black. I cannot speak for something that I am not.

So there.

55. Please tell us
how you decided to vote for his soul? What exactly is his essence? How long have you studied this man who has held office for a relatively short time? From his oratory? From his voting record, which when under security is very questionable? Missing votes, etc. There have been many politicians and charismatic leaders who have lead people to follow them down a very disastrous path,eh.

13. There are records all over showing Obama has
support from more affluent voters and Hillary's is more from blue collar workers. What's so hard to understand that blue collar workers probably can't take off 3 or 4 hours and go caucus but the more affluent can? And if you can't figure out that Blacks are voting 90% for Obama and that a state with a high Black population just might swing more towards Obama then I can't help you.

See, I'm under the impression that most black people aren't doing so great economically.

There are a lot of middle-class black people, sure, but there are also a LOT of blue collar and JUST PLAIN POOR black people.

These blue collar and poor black people seem to be getting to the polls okay, so why can't blue collar and poor white people get down there?

Do you see why this is confusing to me?

A single mother with 3 kids who can't leave them all alone? A veteran in Iraq? A disabled elderly person who can't get to the polls and therefore usually votes absentee?

You just can't understand that some people have a much harder time caucusing than others, or simply CAN'T caucus? You really think it is all about motivation?

31. The demographics are well known to all of us...
Sen. Obama's supporters come primarily from the better-educated and affluent side of society...the largest contingent of them do. Pointed out by pollsters time and time again in most states, Sen. Clinton's supporters are essentially from the blue collar crowd. The less affluent and those more likely to work shift work(nights for example).

This is neither fair nor unfair...it is just an existing condition that we all must take into consideration.

Student supporters can be available at any time, while older voters may not be. That would explain the 'youth' support on the one hand and the problems with the older crowd of supporters.

This is what is and voters/supporters need to be able to cope with the problems as they occur in ALL the different states.

Most of us favor the regular election format over the caucuses since actual voting produces more participation. Caucuses represent a much smaller percentange of voters and may/may not be realistic. At the end of actual voting, there are hard numbers that really have some meaning.

The crazy patchwork quilt of voting laws and situations have amazed all of us, confounded many of us, and this is the first primary in years where we could actually see the mechanisms that are operative in the many states. The last two elections were over following Iowa and NH. The NET has allowed us to look at all the states this time and most of us are amazed at the differences between them in the actual selection process.

It is now time for us to seek some unity as a party. If we fail to achieve that, then the right will win and we can kiss the country goodbye. We cannot possibly survive nationally, one more term of Republican rule.

33. The Clintons have headed the Democratic party for 16 years now
They've had plenty of time to change this "unfair" system. Funny how Bill didn't mind caucuses when he was winning them, isn't it? Funny how all of a sudden it's unfair because Obama is winning them.

As for the supposed youth/older voter divide, retirees (who favor Clinton) have as much time, or more, than students to vote or caucus. The exit polls show that 18-30 and 65+ voters (Obama's and Clinton's best age demos, respectively) vote in roughly equal proportions at caucuses or primaries.
