Let's say Obama was down 150 in the delegate count
Edited on Sat Mar-08-08 05:57 PM by BL611
...and was talking constantly about Whitewater, and comparing Hillary to Karl Rove, and saying she is not qualified to be President and that McCain would be a better CinC, and went on 60 minutes and said "as far as I know Hillary did not kill Vince Foster." Would Hillary supporters be encouraging him to stay in the race and continue to "vet" him for the GE?

Just asking...

4. The pressure on him to withdraw would be overwhelming.
There is a huge double standard here.

8. No if she wanted to stay in the race
Edited on Sat Mar-08-08 06:12 PM by BL611
and let it play out till the end, thats her prerogative. However her willingness to do and say anything to dramatically change the dynamic, regardless of how it will impact the candidate who will in all likelihood get the nomination in the GE is way out of bounds. If she wanted to stay in and do her ready on day one routine thats one thing, staying in on a Obama-is-Ken-Starr-Karl-Rove-unqualified-to-be-President-and-may-be-a-member-of-Al-Queda platform is a whole other ballgame.

11. I wish folks could get past the whole "Hillbot" thing -
but yeah they would be and they would be correct in some ways - if somewhat over dramatic.

Certainly Hillary isn't doing the Democratic Party any favors at this point by going negative in the manner that she has chosen to.

And come on - Hillbot, Obamabot (what is that crap?) sometimes this board sounds like a gathering place for 5th graders.

19. You're right
The level of discourse is terrible and there is a lot of immaturity. I'll admit that certain statements from the Hillary camp has pissed me off recently, but calling them Hill-Shills, Hillbot, or whatever is pathetic.

15. The party faithful are more afraid of the Clintons than like them.
Edited on Sat Mar-08-08 06:18 PM by AtomicKitten
Try as they might though, the Clintons just can't weave a losing campaign into a victory. But, no worries; they have every intention of giving it their best shot regardless of the consequences to the party.

12. The MSM would also not be propping his candidacy up like they are with Hillary
they would have just shut the cameras off by now and went back to calling Hillary the anointed candidate.

14. Good points. Obama said she's the "champ", he's the upstart.
That she will have to be knocked out.

Obama said recently he would be facing pressure to drop out if he had lost as many contests as Clinton has.

"Look, I'm the challenger. I'm the upstart. I'm the insurgent," he said. "She's the champ. She's part of the Democratic network in Washington and, you know, if you're the titleholder, then you don't lose it on points. You've got to be knocked out."

27. My point is not that she should drop out because she's
down, its the tenor of her attacks. Why are people so rabid? Well in some cases its because this is DU, you should expect half the posts to be hyperbolic drivel. But I think many people are legitimately steamed because they think Hillary's attacks are way over the line of what is expected in a primary, especially considering the likelihood of Obama being the nominee.

And the press was urging him to stay in the race, and admitted being "unfair" to him.

28. He would be under enormous pressure to withdraw
Edited on Sun Mar-09-08 12:25 PM by HannibalBarca
...in fact he may have already. I contend that the only reason Hillary Clinton is still in this race is her surname. I am not a rabid Obama supporter, I like the guy but he certainly has flaws, I believe Clinton would make an excellent president but I fear that the divisiveness of the last several years would continue. Her recent "victories" were marginal at best, Obama's ability to eat into the massive leads she enjoyed should clearly demonstrate that this time around he is the peoples choice. I've said it before that if this continues right to the end then it may hand the republicans the presidency.
