On the Campaign Trail, Few Mentions of McCain’s Bout With Melanoma

Along with his signature bright white hair, the most striking aspects of Senator John McCain’s physical appearance are his puffy left cheek and the scar that runs down the back of his neck.

The marks are cosmetic reminders of the melanoma surgery he underwent in August 2000. Mr. McCain, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, sometimes tells audiences that he has “more scars than Frankenstein.”

The operation was performed mainly to determine whether the melanoma, a potentially fatal form of skin cancer, had spread from his left temple to a key lymph node in his neck; a preliminary pathology test at the time showed that it had not.

won't be brought up by Democrats until after a nominee has been chosen.

Then we can hammer this issue til the cows come home!

The stress of a campaign and the Presidency could bring back this cancer. Does the country need a President who is ill?

I believe it is not a smear, but a fact that this could happen. The press is irresponsible to avoid mentioning this. They would not be quite so reticent if the candidate was a Democrat.

3. I'll put this less offensively

than I usually do. It is an issue that a GOP president who dies in office leaves a backdoor open for a Bush return, via appointment as the new veep. This is after McCain has bloodily does all the unpopular dirty work, so much that sunny Jeb, as a humble self-effacing Veep, might even look good.

Thompson got the bad news prematurely- and I would bet he prolonged his life considerably. I can think of
nothing easier than a BFFE "letting nature takes its course" that will once more have us arguing LIHOP or MIHOP.

Vote for an old GOP guy and you vote all the Bushes administration back in.
