As a Muslim, I am extremely offended by Mr. Tweety Matthews
Edited on Sun Mar-09-08 02:24 AM by DeposeTheBoyKing
He was laughing with his chums this evening about Obama "maybe being a Muslim and other bad things." Although I know what he was TRYING to say, it came across as "Muslim = BAD." I'm not naive, and I know the stupid stereotypes in this country after 9/11. I'm such a news junkie that I wondered what could possibly put me off of watching primary coverage. Well, he just accomplished it. No more watching MSNBC or CNN, for that matter. I will be happy to keep my head in the sand like a good ostrich.

I HATE this. The Repukes are sitting there laughing their butts off at us.

I went to the site that shall not be named for the first time in, at least, a year.

Things were so bad here, and people kept accusing others of acting like freepers, so I thought I'd see for myself. Folks, there is no comparison between our duels and their hatred of all things democratic.

They are stocking up on popcorn, etc.

I knew they hated Hillary, but damn...they are even more rabid toward her now. Yeah, I know, hard to believe they could be even more vile toward her, but, trust me, they are.

They were equally vile toward Obama.

One freep stated they are looking forward to Bill, Hillary, Barack and Michelle duking it out, and, especially, the democratic party destroying itself.

And yes, I had to bathe and will not make that mistake again.

5. I don't want the media to bash ANYONE
I was telling my husband this evening about the good old days of real journalism and how we'll never see their like again. The 24-hour "news" cycle has ruined American TV journalism.

11. My mother ADORES Tweety
She has NO idea that places like DU even exist so all she has is HER perception.
She said the Hillary bashing on MSNBC has gotten to such extreme proportions that even FOX News was more balanced and she HATES FOX news. Sad state of affairs when 65-year old women notice it.

6. Before you pounce on me - I may have missed that part - but I thought it was very different:
I thought Matthews was criticizing Clinton's equivocation on 60 minutes... are you talking about a different section? When I watched him today, he had plenty to say about her "as far as I know comments" -- in that context I thought his comments looked like criticism of Clinton and not at all delivering the message that muslim = bad.

?

Thoughts?

That's certainly the message that comes across. Perhaps my nerves were frayed and I was oversensitive. All this in-fighting is getting to me. I just want the strongest nominee possible to get the Repukes out of our White House. Shouldn't we all want that?

<snip>
Our Obama Problem
Firas Ahmad

As Obamamania continues to capture the imagination of the United States, parts of the American Muslim community are no less overcome by the Illinois Senator's charismatic and overpowering vision for change. It makes sense. He is a man of diverse ethnic background who seeks dialogue over war, who can credibly represent change given his independence from establishment politics and whose life story suggests an intimate understanding of the Muslim world. In many ways he represents more than Muslims could have hoped for given the radioactive nature of Islam in America over the past several years. Someone who seemingly has a sympathetic ear and background that could build bridges.

But for many reasons, Muslims are one constituency Obama does not want to court. With a wink and a nod, Obama's Muslim supporters continue to work for a candidate who cannot afford to wink back at them. Given his perceived "closeness" to Islam, and the fact that he shares a name with a former Iraqi dictator, it could be strategic suicide for the Obama campaign to vocally acknowledge organized Muslim support. At a time when endorsements are worn like badges of honor, no major candidate is looking for the Muslim vote.

12. Thanks for that
It's funny - I was born and raised in El Dorado, Kansas - the little town where his grandparents lived for a time. I would love to meet him and share memories - perhaps his grandparents even knew my father, who knew everyone in town's birthdays.

But one of the things I remember the most about Obama's Keynote speech in 2004 was him calling out the Pubs & M$M for Muslim bashing.

And by the way, Tweety is a buffoon and a schoolyard bully who needs to be sent packing.

Edited on Sun Mar-09-08 02:22 AM by Cali_Democrat
Bush, the neocons, and the Rethugs have absolutely destroyed America with their scare tactics and anti-Muslim fear mongering crap. I cant stand it anymore. I think the Obama phenomenon is exposing America. Maybe its a good thing. He's obviously not doing it intentionally and alot of right wing idiots are looking more and more stupid.

13. Not Just Tweety
This whole Obama is a Muslim thing, the correct answer is "And? So? Your point being? I don't know what country your from but this is the United States of America, this country was founded on the basis of religious freedom so no PATRIOT cares about any candidates religious preference."

17. If I were a Muslim I would be more offended by Re. Steve King of Iowa
His bigoted, racist comments re: Barack Hussein Obama, and AL-CIADA dancing in the street were REPREHENSIBLE. I tried to call and leave a voice mail this morning but his mailbox is full.

Absolutely disgusting and offensive that we have people in elected office making these heinous comments.

37. "BAD things"?
Oh man. If Olbermann had been there with him at least he would have said "'Bad things'?" and looked at him like "What the F is wrong with you?"

When Keith's not there, he slips the chain. Much more likely to say really stupid stuff. In a way, he's lucky, because I think Keith has saved his bacon more than once when they've both been doing election coverage. It was only Keith who convinced him to back off from using the word "bitch" again the other day (to describe Tina Fey's pro-Hillary speech).

You can watch/listen to shows like Washington Journal (CSPAN) or Democracy Now (Pacifica/LinkTV/FreeSpeechTV/NPR/etc.) to keep up to date on the primary coverage and still avoid the rhetoric of the MSM. They may not have all the flashy graphics, fashionable hosts, or the ability to brainwash you 24 hours a day, but there are alternative media venues. Give them a try, you may never turn back.
