Democratic party officials cancel Michigan's convention rooms
Democratic party officials cancel Michigan's convention rooms

Looks like the Democratic National Committee means business in its ongoing stalemated dispute with Florida and Michigan.

According to our colleague Christopher Reynolds over at The Times' travel blog, the committee has canceled the hotel accommodations for the 177-member Michigan delegation to the Democratic National Convention in Denver in late August. Just try finding that many rooms at the last minute during a political convention.

And the DNC never even made any reservations for Florida's defiant delegation.

Both states have been outlawed because they naughtily scheduled their primaries before Feb. 5 in violation of party rules. Since Hillary Clinton has claimed victory in both places anyway, surprisingly, she'd like to count them in her total. Equally surprisingly, since Barack Obama's name wasn't even on the Michigan ballot, he'd rather not count the Clinton votes.

12. There was no NH violation. They still come as first primary in nation.
How nice the way Hillary says bad things about Iowans now. She was surely sweet-talking them before when she was campaigning for the caucus.

14. the rules were in black and white and were not followed by NH Dems - claiming
state law forced the violation works for NH - but not for Florida?

15. Now that is a lie. NH was in the Feb. 5 pre-window with IA, SC, and NV
They were leapfrogged by Florida and the DNC gave them permission to take back their previous positions.

4. The GOP outsmarted us
We should have just done what they did-- penalize 50% and let them hold their events early if they want to.

10. Ummm...do you even know that facts???
The FL Democratic party pushed the and voted to move there own primary earlier... They weren't tricked or forced to do so by the Republicans.

13. Not what I meant
The GOP had the same exact problem as we did-- states that wanted to have their election too early. They came up with a better (IMO) solution: Yes, you can go against our wishes, but you will be punished with a 50% cut in delegates.

The DNC decided to go with the death penalty for FL and MI and so now we have this mess. If we'd told the states and the candidates that they can campaign all they want in FL and MI, but be mindful that they won't get a ton of delegates for all their effort, none of this would be a problem. The RNC handled the exact same problem better than we did.

7. That's OK, Dean said today that seating them or a redo is the only option. :)
So they can't stop them from being seated, they decided to cancel their rooms. It's all good. They can come stay with me. ;)

16. Eh, they can stay in my place... for $100 a night.
They buy their own food, and a nice spot on the floor to sleep.

17. The rooms were cancelled the day MI was sanctioned.
Florida never got any, though they are trying now to book them. But the rooms in and around Denver are signed up by the DNCC.

It has nothing to do with the candidates, but with the arrogant leadership of the two states.

19. They can stay in my place. for $100 a night, just a piece of floor
and if 177 delegates come to my house, and sleep on the floor, for about a week, I could make off with $123,900!

:woohoo:

That *actually* pays off my bills :)

20. This was announced in January!
We had this in early January

Michigan loses its hotel rooms at the Red Lion

It looks like Michigan delegates will need to start searching for hotel rooms outside of the Denver metro area. Unless the reservations aren't truly released delegates will be hard-pressed to find a hotel with enough rooms anywhere close to downtown.
