When I hear the word "vetted" I think of the following:
Chasing a frightened, cowering, biting, scratching, pissing animal into a corner.

Grabbing the animal roughly and loading said animal into a sky kennel and putting the kennel into the car.

Listening to the animal SCREAM all the way to the vet.

Getting the animal into an exam room and holding the animal down while the technician muzzles the animal.

Chasing the animal around the exam room.

Holding the animal down while the technician takes the animal's temperature, hoping to God the thermometer doesn't break cause you just can't afford that.

Holding the animal still while it gets weighed.

Chasing the animal around the exam room again.

Having the animal look at you like you're the biggest damn traitor since Judas. :(

Physically throwing yourself on top of the animal to hold it down so the vet can look in its ears and eyes.

Finally giving up trying to keep the animal on the table and pinning it in the corner so the vet can give it a booster shot.

Paying the bill. :(

Trying to control the animal as it RUNS out to the car.

Listening to the animal SCREAM all the way home.

And all this for a routine checkup.

Is this what vetting in politics is about too?

9. to hear some of the locals talk, yes
at least if you are a Democrat. You vote should be suppressed in any way they can think of.

5. Vetting means - already passed the media and opposition test
as far as skeletons in the closet. Welcome to DU and the political scene!

And to the opening poster: Thank you for the comedy!

6. It means checking out the candidate to make sure there aren't any big scandals

So for example, making sure the Tony Rezko thing isn't a sign that Obama is totally corrupt, or making sure Hillary isn't hiding a donation from Osama bin Laden on her taxes... these are "vetting" the candidate.
