NJ Gov. Corzine Offers to Help Pay for Redo of FL, MI

NBC News has learned that New Jersey’s Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine is willing to raise money to pay for a "redo" of both the Florida and Michigan primaries.

Both states violated Democratic Party rules by holding early primaries and have been penalized with the loss of their delegate votes during the Democratic National Convention in Denver this August.

Apparently because both states voted for Hillary Clinton, Corzine, along with neighboring Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell -- both strong Clinton supporters -- have agreed to make the offer to help foot the bill for a redo of the primaries.

Rendell told NBC's “Meet The Press” Sunday that he and Corzine are writing a letter to the Washington Post offering to raise half of the estimated $30 million needed to re-stage both primaries.

Democrats are divided over how to deal with delegates from the two states, as Clinton and Barack Obama remain locked in a tight and increasingly bitter contest for the party's presidential nomination and the right to oppose presumptive Republican nominee John McCain in November.

A source close to Corzine confirmed to WNBC.com’s Brian Thompson that the two governors agreed on Friday to make the offer and announce it in a letter yet to be published by the Post.

Corzine, a retired Goldman Sachs chairman, would likely contribute some of his own fortune to a redo of the primaries, since he spent well over $100 million in personal funds in successful bids for the U.S. Senate in 2000, and for Governor in 2005.

Corzine should donate some of his Goldman Sachs money to pay for this. He has some nerve after his latest budget.

When I heard Carville spewing that crap the other day on CNN, I was worried. The last thing we need to do is open ourselves up to scrutiny from the republicans about letting folks the Clinton's pardoned or other shodow merchants get involved with this process.
