If this IS Clintons strategy, I will quit this party if the DNC allows it
From this link-
http://nathansgeorgetown.com/

Received a morning phone call from a very inside democratic insider. He said, "this is the basic Clinton strategy. They realize that statistically they can't win. What they can do is three months of digging up every piece of Obama dirt they can, which they are doing 24/7, and pounding him with it, shredding him, destroying his reputation and career, so that even if he arrives at the convention with the numbers he will be a ruined candidate and they can say to the convention, 'see, he's damaged goods. There's no way he can win. Hillary is the only one who can win.'"

He didn't come up with this in a vacuum. He's got good sources. He said the Clintons will aim this strategy particularly at "the poor and uneducated who vote, play to all their fears, and their ignorance."

Aw, won't it be great to have the Clintons back in the White House.

238. Actually,
what S/He said was that S/He was tired of all the whining.

S/He did seem to be a bit upset that someone would question the appearance that S/He gave someone here on Earth. S/He also wanted to know why we weren't spending our time during Lent properly and why we were not dedicating more of our time to helping our fellow humans, instead of bickering about shadows on a picture.

I really do love God.

But I am still confused. Rather than explaining what I see as an inherant contradiction you are saying what? I still am not clear here.

Note:
I can be wrong. Not just wrong but very, very, monstrously, abtusely, insanely wrong at times.

However, I am not sold on how Hilary can appeal to a green-leanin' democrat. She is in the Leadership of the DLC and that org isn't terribly friendly to left leaning Democrats. Not that Obama is really that much more progressive. This is probably why I do not care as much for the presidential election this year. I intend to go along with the usual four year Democratic calesthenics involving holding my nose and pulling the lever.

232. I appreciate your relative sanity here.
The way I look at it, some people may be strong on certain 'green' issues, and not so much on others. Not everyone feels strongly about all the same issues, and so I think you can be more left than others on one thing or another.

The country will never, ever go left as far as you would like it to. You can only nudge them closer to one side or the other, I suppose, but this remains a fairly centrist electorate, methinks.

But I could be very, very wrong on that, too.

This nation really has a strong left hook to it.

The majority of Americans would differ from being centrists (which by the way is a category without a proper definition)

We are pro minimum wage increase
pro single payer healthcare
pro environment
pro education
pro choice
pro taxing the wealthy and corporations
pro alternative energy

etc...

Besides, every time I've explained something here on DU I've been informed that I'm "poor, white trash" for not going with the majority. So instead we'll discuss how great I look in the color green.

Green is my favorite color. It looks very nice on redheads, of which I am one. And it gives my grey eyes a touch of green, which I love.

I think I will buy a green pantsuit. Hillary looks really good in her pantsuits and I think I would look nice in one too-except mine will be green. (Oooh-maybe a really deep emerald! That would be fantastic!)

Third Clinton Volunteer Knew Of Smear E-Mail

A third volunteer for Hillary Clinton's campaign was aware of a propaganda e-mail alleging that Barack Obama is a Muslim who plans on "destroying the U.S. from the inside out."
"Let us all remain alert concerning Obama's expected presidential Candidacy," the email reads. "Please forward to everyone you know. The Muslims have said they Plan on destroying the U.S. from the inside out, what better way to start than at The highest level."

Two Clinton volunteers, Linda Olson and Judy Rose, have already been asked to resign from the campaign for their roles in forwarding the e-mail. The AP reported yesterday that Olson, a volunteer coordinator in Iowa County, sent a version of the e-mail to 11 people, including Ben Young, a regional field director for Chris Dodd's campaign. Young passed it on to the AP.

Kerrey Apologizes to Obama Over Remark
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory?id=4031436
Kerrey's mention of Obama's middle name and his Muslim roots raised eyebrows because they are also used as part of a smear campaign on the Internet that falsely suggests Obama is a Muslim who wants to bring jihad to the United States. Obama is a Christian.

The Clinton campaign has already fired two volunteer county coordinators in Iowa for forwarding hoax e-mails with the debunked claim. Last week, a national Clinton campaign co-chairman resigned for raising questions about whether Obama's teenage drug use could be used against him, so Kerrey's comments raised questions about whether the Clinton campaign might be using another high-profile surrogate to smear Obama.

Bill Clinton Asks for a Second Chance
By Liz Halloran
Posted February 11, 2008

The morning after his wife, Hillary, was routed in three state contests by Sen. Barack Obama in their dead-heat battle for the Democratic nomination, former President Bill Clinton made his case for her before a packed Sunday service at one of the largest black churches in Washington, D.C.
But first he offered an apology of sorts for racially tinged comments he made about Obama and his candidacy that have triggered a backlash in the black community and among many other Democrats.

Clinton invoked his "worship of a God of second chances" in pronouncing himself glad to be at the Temple of Praise, which claims nearly 15,000 members. His invocation of second chances echoed comments he made early last week at black churches in California, where he campaigned for his wife before that state's Super Tuesday primary, which she won.

Bill Clinton To Apologize At LA Black Churches
Once again, Bill Clinton is ready to repent.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/02/02/bill-clinton-to-apologize_n_84573.html
On Sunday the former president is scheduled to visit black churches in South Central Los Angeles, where he's expected to offer a mea culpa to those who "dearly loved him" when he was their president, Rep. Diane Watson (D-Calif.) says.
Watson, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus who has endorsed Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.), tells us she'll usher the former president to more than half a dozen churches in her district where she says he needs to "renew his relationship" with congregants who were turned off by his racially tinged
comments in the days leading up to and following the South Carolina primary. (Such as when Clinton compared Sen. Barack Obama's landslide victory to Jesse Jackson's wins in 1984 and 1988.)

CLINTON ALLIES SUPPRESS THE VOTE IN NEVADA...
On Meet the Press on Sunday, Hillary Clinton said her campaign had nothing to do with a lawsuit--written about by Nation Editor Katrina vanden Heuvel--that threatens to prevent thousands of workers from voting in the Nevada caucus on Saturday.
Back in March, the Nevada Democratic Party agreed to set up caucus locations on the Vegas strip for low-income shift workers, many of them members of the state's influential Culinary Union, who commute long distances to work and wouldn't be able to get home in time to caucus. It was an uncontroversial idea until the Culinary Union endorsed Barack Obama and the Nevada State Education Association, whose top officials support Clinton, sued to shut down the caucus sites.
The Clinton camp played dumb until yesterday, when President Clinton came out in favor of the lawsuit.
Clinton's comments drew a heated response from D. Taylor, the head of Nevada's Culinary Union, on MSNBC's Hardball. "He is in support of disenfranchising thousands upon thousands of workers, not even just our members," Taylor said of Clinton. "The teachers union is just being used here. We understand that This is the Clinton campaign. They tried to disenfranchise students in Iowa. Now they're trying to
disenfranchise people here in Nevada, who are union members and people of color and women."

Rank-and-file members of Nevada's teachers union also come out against the lawsuit filed by their leadership. "We never thought our union and Senator Clinton would put politics ahead of what's right for our students, but that's exactly what they're doing," the letter stated. "As teachers, and proud Democrats, we hope they will drop this undemocratic lawsuit and help all Nevadans caucus, no matter which candidate they support."
The lawsuit's opponents make a persuasive point. Creating obstacles to voting is what the GOP does to Democrats, not what Democrats should be doing to other Democrats.

Obama accepted her apology, according to David Axelrod, the top political strategist for the Obama campaign.

KEENE, N.H. – John Edwards angrily took on Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton at two news conferences in a row on Sunday, saying that her campaign “doesn’t seem to have a conscience.”

COMPTON, Calif. (AP) — Hillary Rodham Clinton and her campaign tried to mend ties to black voters Thursday when a key supporter apologized to her chief rival, Barack Obama, for comments that hinted at Obama's drug use as a teenager. The candidate herself, meanwhile, praised the Rev. Martin Luther King and promised to assist with the rebirth of this troubled, largely black city.

Bob Johnson, the founder of Black Entertainment Television, apologized
for comments he made at a Clinton campaign rally in South Carolina on Sunday that hinted at Obama's use of drugs as a teenager.

Clinton Surrogate Compares Obama Ad to Nazi March

Fri Feb 1, 2:23 PM ET
The Nation -- On a media conference call organized by the Hillary Clinton campaign today, Clinton surrogate Len Nichols compared an Obama health care ad to Nazis.
----------
Accusing political opponents of Nazism is an outrageous smear. Raising the specter of a Nazi march in response to a health care mailer that evokes the insurance industry is so absurd, it would be hard to take the attack seriously, were it not launched from a high profile national campaign conference call in this crucial stretch of the presidential race. And political observers know, of course, that the Clinton Campaign regularly arranges opportunities for surrogates to launch these kind of smears, which are later followed up with apologies. (See: Bob Johnson, Bill Shaheen, Bob Kerrey, and Francine Torge, to name the most recent offenders.) For his part, Nichols did not immediately return a call requesting further comment.
-------------------------
Len Nichols, Director of New America's Health Policy Program, stated, "For nearly 17 years I have worked tirelessly to reform our nation's struggling health system. Today my passion overwhelmed me. I chose an analogy that was wholly inappropriate. I am deeply sorry for any offense that my unfortunate comments may have caused.

62. I heard the story of "Edwards has a mistress" here in Washington
many, many months before I saw posts here alluding to a politician running for president with an impending scandal about to break. (Now I guess those rumors could have been about Obama but I assumed because I had heard the Edwards rumor this was the one to which people alluded). I have never revealed this until now. I spoke to no one about it at all for approximately one year. Why?

I did not believe the story. It came from a well-known Washington source. I thought the story was designed to break Edwards' presidential ambitions, and if it impaired his relationship with his beautiful wife, Elizabeth, oh well .... It was with great relief that months later the story broke, and Edwards stepped out and denied it. And so it ended.

This is the way politics works in Washington, D.C. It is disgusting. But when one sees people in their own party participating, that's when one has to start asking oneself the hard questions. Will I vote for people who propagate these tactics? My answer is no.

This: "digging up every piece of Obama dirt they can, which they are doing 24/7, and pounding him with it, shredding him, destroying his reputation and career"

or the part about targeting poor uneducated people?

How is this inflammatory, completely unsubstantiated OP any different than what it accuses the Clinton campaign of doing?

BTW, I am a strong supporter of both of our current democratic candidates and would have supported Kucinich at this point.

my 20 call answering machine) every tv and radio attack ad (some which were pulled after complaints) that were going into Wisconsin's third poorest county (Vernon) reflected and supported the statements in the OP (on edit:regardless of exercising reasonable caution concerning new members during campaign times)-that was my experience (as well as all other citizens) leading up to the February 19th WI. primary--they were misleading attacks, and usually began with "Did you know Senator Obama blah, blah,blah..." and it has been reported that those ads that were pulled were being considered for other States.

That's no surprise since Senator Clinton and many of the former members of President Clinton's administration are DLC.

cbayer, surely you know that the DLC is comprised of neoconservative policy supporting Democratic Party members that have abandoned the traditional Democratic base and policies-they emulate the tactics and employ many of the same organizations of the RW, yet they call themselves centrist/right Democrats.

That's just as true as what the Clinton campaign did here in Wisconsin, cbayer.

69. I must defer to your experience.
I technically live in a state in which there was not a big campaign (California), don't watch much commercial TV and don't get any mail, so I am out of the loop on this.

And much as I have differences with the DLC, I would not call them neocons.

But I respect your opinion on this, bobthedrummer.

What I was really objecting to was the tone of this OP and the lack of critical thinking in embracing it.

Peace.

256. It's sad
apparently people who join cults of personality lose all critical thinking skills.

They're no different than the Bushies, even sadder to say. That's just what we need after 8 long years of the naked emperor. :eyes:
If ANYTHING occurs within just the sphere of the Clinton/Obama race to cause them to vote non-Democrat or to quit the Democratic Party as a whole, then we're better off without them.

They have been blinded to the fact that the philosophy and meaning of the Democratic Party is bigger than any one candidate.
Even their saint.

After the travesty of the past 8 years, anyone who doesn't act towards ridding us of yet more insanity, death and destruction (as in voting for John W. McBush or diverting a Democratic vote to any other party) because of one person, no matter who the Democratic presidential candidate is, then the horrors of the near future years rest firmly on their shoulders.

39. How Rovian of Obama.
"There they began the tedious process of challenging hundreds of signatures on the nominating petitions of state Sen. Alice Palmer, the longtime progressive activist from the city's South Side. And they kept challenging petitions until every one of Obama's four Democratic primary rivals was forced off the ballot." Now Unopposed in Primary

"Obama was elected unopposed to the Illinois State Senate in 1996 representing the 13th District, comprising the university neighborhood of Hyde Park in south Chicago."

But in that initial bid for political office, Obama quickly mastered the bare-knuckle arts of Chicago electoral politics. His overwhelming legal onslaught signaled his impatience to gain office, even if that meant elbowing aside an elder stateswoman like Palmer.

A close examination of Obama's first campaign clouds the image he has cultivated throughout his political career: The man now running for president on a message of giving a voice to the voiceless first entered public office not by leveling the playing field, but by clearing it.
Unopposed in General Election
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-070403obama-ballot,0,1843097.story?page=1

Open Seat

"In early polls leading up to the March 16, 2004, primary election, candidate Blair Hull enjoyed a substantial lead and widespread name recognition resulting from a well-financed advertisement effort." Then ironically scandal took out Blair Hull.
Unopposed in Primary
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Senate_election_in_Illinois,_2004

On August 8, 2004 – with 86 days to go before the general election – the Illinois Republican Party drafted Alan Keyes to run against Democrat Barack Obama for the U.S. Senate, after the Republican nominee, Jack Ryan, withdrew due to a sex scandal.

176. I read the first page of the Chicago Trib's article and found nothing
a serious candidate wouldn't do....even against an long time incumbent. You also say Ryan and Hull were both taken out by scandal. Sounds as if Obama was in the right place at the right time. Unless Obama caused the scandals and the petition problem with Palmer I don't see anything Rovian here. Sen.Obama won the IL primary....so, where's the beef? I guess what I'm saying is that I don't understand your stance here...maybe you can explain it to me. I'm not trying to be obnoxious...again, I don't understand.

43. Ed Rendell on the Meet the Press gave the most chilling view that they won't accept her loss.
It is really quite a breathtaking point of view. Obama is ahead in delegates, states won, and popular vote, and if he remains ahead, Rendell says they will still try to press the superdelegates to overturn the will of the people.

If this occurs, it will split the party irreparably. The upside of that is that it will put into a motion a movement for a third party, finally. The Clintons represent the War Party, the Money Party, and are putting very little sunlight between themselves and the Republicans.

I feel a certain amount of calm knowing that either the Clintons will wreck themselves on the rocks trying to steal this from Obama and Obama goes on to the GE ... or, a third party will finally come into fruition.

105. Excuse me for saying so,
But Ms Clinton is a proud element of the democratic party. She is distinguished around the world as a recognized face.
And what Americans in need want right now is comfort from a familiar face. WE NEED IT NOW! TO HELL WITH VOTING.
Don't you know votes are lost. those computer tabulators are programed for a reason.
And when a piece of paper tells who the winner is, Thats all we need to know.

106. "TO HELL WITH VOTING"?
Excuse me, but are you completely out of your mind? Voting is an essential, fundamental foundation of our democracy. Without it we've got nothing. I don't want "comfort from a familiar face," I want to chose my candidate and I want my vote to count. What we don't need is Hillary Clinton's "face" chosen for us.

WTF are you thinking???
