Clinton team pushes for Obama as running mate

By Thomas Ferraro 1 hour, 51 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Hillary and Bill Clinton are again teaming up on Barack Obama -- this time saying the first-term U.S. lawmaker, whom they have derided as inexperienced, would be a strong running mate on a Democratic presidential ticket headed by the former first lady.

In talking up a joint ticket, the Clintons may be seeking the upper hand, attempting to put her in consideration for the top of the ticket when she so far has failed to win the votes necessary to assure that she would face Republican presidential candidate John McCain in the November election.

The maneuver may also be aimed at countering an image in voters' minds of Obama as presidential material and at helping restore an aura of inevitability as the party's nominee that Clinton had early in the campaign but lost.

"The Clintons are in a difficult position," said Dennis Goldford, a political science professor at Drake University in Iowa, who has tracked the presidential race. "If she wins the Democratic presidential nomination, she would need Obama's supporters. But she needs to be careful. If this talk of him on the ticket is seen as a cynical maneuver, it could backfire and hurt her," Goldford said.

2. Yeah, that's gonna work.
Ask somebody to be your VP when you're losing to him and you've already dissed him big-time by saying he sucks worse than the Republican.

Smart move, Hillary.

nothing going for her other than she's a manipulative pol who is desperately trying anything to get back in the white house. Even if it's on Obama's coattails.

9. She is pandering to the African American vote in Mississippi
She is telling them "A vote for me is a vote for both me and Obama, because I will make him my VP choice".

It's a classic bait and switch.

There isn't any way, politically, for her to put Obama in as her VP or even in her cabinet. She has said, over and over, that he isn't qualified to be President. The VP especially, but all cabinet members on in the line of succession. The VP needs to be ready to assume the office "on day one" as Hillary likes to say. The repukes would never let her live it down if she picked him.

14. Yep. It's a racial ploy for Mississippi--that's when they started
talking this up. The timing and the place for this is no coincidence. Blatant attempt to manipulate the black vote. They must think black people are stupid.

11. Kucinich called...
...Hillary and told her that if that prez thing doesn't work out he'd like to hire Hill to buff his wife's tongue stud.

I'd say she should take it, but questions are being raised about her experience.

She hands McCain a soundbite he's already using against the Democrats (and don't think she didn't know it - she's had 35 years' experience, right?).

She floats the "Muslim scare" in front of Ohioans and Texans and almost pulls off a win in Texas with that gutter tactic. ALMOST.

She wants to have the rules regarding MI and FL delegates just, oh what the heck, wiped out for her convenience so that she can collect delegates from an INVALID primary that were racked up while no one else was on the ballot.

She presumes, while she's BEHIND on all counts, to offer a secondary position to the man who's leading her.

When the hell did we go through the looking-glass?

The sooner she gets some serious backlash, the better. Obama should steer very clear; it's pretty obvious that they're trying to use him to get back the voters she's alienated. Of course, it should be HIS choice to make unless she manages to strongarm the SDs against the pledged delegates.
