Why Hillary will not accept VP and will eventually withdraw her candidacy
This highly speculative post is based on a couple of presumptions

1) Despite their apparently schitzaphrenic behavior the Clinton's have a clear and realistic command of the numbers and their real chances.

(For those who think the gyrations are genuine you can get a diagnosis from Larry David here http://timesonline.typepad.com/comment/2008/03/a-few-weeks-ago.html)

2) That while the current campaign strategy always holds open the door for an Obama meltdown, there real ambitions are more realistic. They are currently taking in money at a rate of about $1 million dollars a day, but there is no real evidence that they are spending it. The ad buys for Ohio and Texas were about $ 6 million. Not really significant if you were going all in to win.

Therefore my speculation is that they are maintaining the campaign primarily because there is no incentive no to do so and every financial reason to do so. If she can accumulate another $ 25 million and combine that with her $ 29 million in unspent GE funds she would be able to repay the loan and have a tidy warchest of $ 50 million or more.

Before she left she might throw in a few bombs about Obama, saying for example she has experience, McCain has experience, Obama has a speech (which might be serious enough to tip the balance in a close GE election).

She might even float some rumors that she would accept the Vice Presidential spot. They will not be sincere but it will make her eventual withdrawal look magnanamous and cast Obama in a bad light and weaken him further in the GE.

But she cannot take the VP - if the premise is correct, because I do not think that she would then be able to take her money with her.

She will continue to fester and fight so that her supporters will keep the money coming in. But she doesn't really have to lay out any real money for the next couple of weeks. And always mixed in are the fake compliments - "I am proud to be here with you".

In the end she will stop the circus and everyone will be grateful, she will have a big warchest for the future and no one the wiser -as far as I know.

6. sigh
We're just going to have to work harder to overcome the damage she's leaving behind. She seeded the GE playing field with mines for candidate Obama.
