Who will John Edwards support?
Edited on Mon Mar-10-08 11:02 AM by not_too_L8
Has anyone heard anything from Edwards regarding who he would support for the nomination?

Just added ...Thanks Klukie

Simmons Endorses Obama; Is Edwards Next?
Hillary Clinton’s air of inevitability is looking thinner every day. After an 11-primary winning streak and fresh off new endorsements from John Kerry and the Teamsters union, Barack Obama gained the support last weekend of hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons.

But at most, Simmons’ endorsement serves as a clue to where John Edwards might throw his coveted support. As we reported last year, Simmons seemed poised to back Edwards before the former senator dropped out of the race. The two were seen schmoozing a number of times in 2007, even at yoga class in the Hamptons. (“He sweated like crazy,” Simmons told the New York Times last April, adding, “I talk to John Edwards more than I talk to anyone. He has said more things about the conditions we need to think about.”)

1. I heard from an inside source a while ago that he was leaning Clinton
But that was before the Wisconsin primary. At this point who knows? Not sure it matters that much now anyway, though it would give either of them a little boost in the media narrative, which both could use right now.

2. He is so different from "The Other Two"...
I hope he doesn't lift a finger for either of them. When the nominee is chosen, I fully expect him to support that person with much fervor.

I'm really surprised he hasn't stepped in AS A DEMOCRAT to speak out against Clinton using RW tactics and talking points against another DEMOCRAT

28. Barak doesn't have to use them.
ALL his supporters do it for him. They are spouting vile Right Wing Taking Points constantly, repeatedly and continuously. I hope Edwards thinks for himself and sees through all this BS.

17. As an Edwards supporter, I hope he DOESN'T
endorse either of them. I don't like Obama with his fake preacher cadence, but I dislike Clinton least. And with all the undeserved hatred being spewed on Clinton, it tends to make me want to support her more.

18. Coveted?
I wouldn't covet the support of a phoney who talked about "rescuing" the working class whilst never having done a damn thing for them when he could (in the Senate).

20. "New Endorsements????"
This article lacks a certain amount of seriousness - Kerry endorsed Obama after NH, before NV - not after an 11 primary winning streak.

25. On what ?
Simmons endorsing him? Kerry endorsing him? the Teamsters endorsing him?

The rest - like what Edwards will do - is speculation.

27. No - I was just suggesing that as it had the known things somewhat wrong,
the likelihood that they were insiders who knew anything was less likely than otherwise. I should have written that better.

Edwards seriously confuses me. There are some politicians, who I can guess pretty well how they will vote or who they might endorse - I can't with Edwards. There likely are Edwards people here who have some insight - I've never been one (Kerry 2003,2004,2005,2006, and very disappointed in 2007 and preferring Obama/Biden/Dodd to the others.)

Given that caveat; What I suspect is that he either likes both of them ok or he really doesn't care for either. Another possibility is that he doesn't care enough which one wins, thinks neither can win (a case he almost tried to make when running) and he knows that he risks the support of some on the other team if he wants to run for Senate, Governor or President again. The last possibility may be that dealing with the death of his father-in -law and his wife's illness - plus anything pushed off while running, is what he is mostly dealing with. I think other than teh 2 meetings and the announcement of the Iraq thing - he's been quiet.

29. Sorry. The juxtaposition of endorsement, yoga, and sweating just tickled me.
That said, I don't see Edwards endorsing anyone at this stage of the game. If he truly felt strongly about one of the remaining candidates, he would have spoken up by now. As things are now, he has a lot more leverage with the candidates if he doesn't endorse. Not wanting to alienate Edwards, Clinton and Obama are more likely to bring up causes he finds important. This will keep said causes front and center, which is where Edwards wanted them all along.

Another argument against endorsement: Given the acrimony between Clinton and Obama, perhaps he wants to stay neutral in case pre-convention peacemaking is needed. Whatever the case, I have no doubts he'll get behind whoever wins the nomination.

All this is pure speculation on my part, as an Edwards supporter. I don't have any facts, figures, etc. beyond what we all hear in the news.
