Governor William F. Winter Endorses Hillary Clinton
Joins Chelsea Clinton in Jackson

Jackson, MS - Mississippi for Hillary today announced the endorsement of former Governor of Mississippi William F. Winter. Governor Winter announced his endorsement to a crowd of over 150 supporters who had gathered for a meeting with Chelsea Clinton on Sunday in Jackson, Mississippi.

"Hillary doesn't need an introduction to Mississippi," said Governor Winter. "I couldn't think of anyone that I am prouder to be supporting than Hillary. I believe Hillary is our best opportunity to provide real leadership in Washington that is going to solve the mistakes made over the past eight years."

"I couldn't be prouder to have the support of my friend, Governor William F. Winter," said Senator Hillary Clinton. "Governor Winter is a dedicated public servant and leader in Mississippi. He is a champion of the best values of the Democratic party."

Governor William F. Winter served as governor of Mississippi from 1980-1984. Prior to that, he served as a member of the Mississippi House of Representatives and Tax Collector of the State of Mississippi as well as State Treasurer and Lieutenant Governor.

Just as former Presidents are still called 'President'.

3. Bill Winter is one of the most progressive politicians in the South.
He is a board member of the National Advisory Board on Race Relations, and pioneered education reform when he was governor of Mississippi.

Some people don't know history and apparently aren't inhibited by their ignorance.

55. That would be Governor Moonbeam, having been reelected in 78 with my vote.
That would be Governor Moonbeam, having been reelected in 78 with my vote, cast from Oakland and for Ron Dellums, too, never imagining Jerry would be mayor there someday.

It's about knowing what goes on in your country, particularly with regards to progressives.

29. Good lord, I can't believe that William Winter is being attacked.
The guy is awesome. He took on progressive reforms in a very conservative state.

Mississippi was the FIRST STATE to mandate and pay for kindergarten education...this was Winter's program.

He is respected by all races here for his work in race relations.

That ANYONE would smear him is just unbelievable.

He's got more Democrat in his fingernail clippings than ANY DUer here bas in his whole body.

14. Leadership?
"Hillary doesn't need an introduction to Mississippi," said Governor Winter. "I couldn't think of anyone that I am prouder to be supporting than Hillary. I believe Hillary is our best opportunity to provide real leadership in Washington that is going to solve the mistakes made over the past eight years."

What leadership has Hillary demonstrated? Why would she suddenly be a leader as President when she hasn't been a leader before now? No one follows her and she hasn't lead anyone to a place they didn't want to go to already. Obama has more leadership ability in his big toe than Hillary.

34. exactly. Some of my fellow Obama supporters are making themselves look foolish here
I'm an Obama supporter and I'd be cheering if he had garnered Gov. WInter's endorsement -- as would every other Obama supporter that has posted on this thread, I'd bet. Denigrating the endorsement -- and implicitly or explicitly denigrating a great Democratic governor -- only makes some of the Obama supporters on this thread look foolish. If you don't know about Winter, try learning something about him before you post.
