Geraldine Ferraro insults people of color

"Ferraro: Obama is lucky he's black
by kos
Mon Mar 10, 2008 at 01:47:44 PM PDT
More classiness, from one of Clinton's top surrogates, Geraldine Ferraro.

If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept. "

WTF! Translation, his accomplishments or skills or talents don't mean anything. It all has to do with his color. So she's insulting, um, EVERYONE of color. This is why a lot of people hate HRC. She surrounds herself with idiots, and her administration would be chalk full of them.

1. Last week, Obama was a "single speech from 2002" ...
... today he's "a concept".

Is that a promotion, or a lateral move in the political hierarchy?

Just wonderin' ...

being some nasty and unsavory thing is being said. I would hope that Hillary would be denouncing and rejecting this bigoted remark.

10. I would hope she would, too ...
... but I'm not holding my breath.

By vehemently coming out against this remark, Hill could undo at least some of the damage she's done to her own campaign of late.

a bit off (regardless of their color). Your post is so true... between Bill, NOW, etc., she is surrounded by idiots and I fear what her administration might look like. :scared: Plus, she is setting the women's movement back decades.

Cause there appears to be a long one of people willing to insult the very voters who's ass they kiss every so often right before an election that they need to win.

13. She's long pointed out that she wouldn't have been the nominee had she been a man
She very flatly states that it was her gender, along with her accomplishments, that got her on the ticket, but that she wouldn't have gotten it on her accomplishments alone.

Like her or not, she's got a point.

Ask those of us who are not swept up with the extreme adulation of Barack Obama, and you'll probably find that he doesn't have the room-lighting charisma and oratorical genius that many claim. He came around at the right time, winning in an election cycle where we were disappointed, and he stands out for many reasons.

She's speaking her mind, and when you listen to her, she's quite well-reasoned.

of rhetoric is shit. it doesn't help anyone take a woman seriously when she says stuff like this. instead of saying why Hillary should get the job, which she didn't get in her vp run, she is making this kind of remark. She should go home to her crooked husband and shut up.

47. Wrong! It was being a Clinton that got her on the ticket. She doesn't have enough accomplishments...
to become president. If Barbara Boxer were our candidate, I could wholeheartedly support that woman for president.

My first choice was John Edwards. When he suspended his campaign, I switched to Obama. Bill Clinton turned out to be a big disappointment. Clinton laid the groundwork for a lot of the problems this country is experiencing today (NAFTA, media deregulation, repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act). The only reason he got elected is because Ross Perot took a lot of republican votes. Hillary is running on Bill's record which is not a very good one.

I do not support Hillary because she is a Clinton and the DLC is trying to force her on the party. Someone once called Bill Clinton the "best Republican president this country ever had", and I see Hillary as being cast in the same mold.

I am willing to give Obama the chance to make a difference. It is guaranteed that we will get the same old crap from Clinton. At any rate, Obama has a better chance of winning in November, and actually becoming president.

21. I agree with that
Although to be fair, people on DU don't officially represent the campaign.

I hope Clinton denounces Ferraro's remark. She can't control everything her surrogates say but she should be asked to comment on whether or not she agrees. Otherwise surrogates can get away with doing all of the dirty work and candidates will never be accountable.

22. Obama folks clumsy attempt at playing the race card
Reveals they are actually sexists.

Really pathetic folks, can't you do better? What crybabies....

Read the entire article, in context.

She's saying that if Obama were Edwards, the news media wouldn't be giving him much coverage at all. But the fact that he's black means they give him special "hands off" treatment.

It makes him a difficult candidate for Clinton to run against since the media doesn't want to question or criticize anything Obama says. OTOH, the news media is very sexist and has no problem attacking Clinton on a regular basis.

Even Shirley Chisolm used to say when she ran for president she got more resistance because of her gender than she did because of her race. The news media objects much more to a candidate's gender than they do their race.

32. I think you need the IQ boost actually
to say that race is a factor and then say that it is helping Obama is only looking at half the equation. that is that positive coverage (though it's not all positive) helps Obama while discounting or ignoring that he is losing some votes because of his race is the sort of "I don't believe it's racism until you prove it to me, but that guy got my job because he's black" mentality that says more about your ignorance than my own.

I'm serious. She needs to reject, denounce whatever. That is far more offensive than that "monster" comment...which was an offhand slip of the tongue. This was obviously thought out. Very offensive to me as a black person. It trivializes what he had to overcome as a black person which is a lot.
