Where was the Obama Judgment in 2005
Edited on Mon Mar-10-08 09:49 PM by NewHampster
when Hillary was voting against Cheney's Energy Bill?

*Barack Obama voted Aye on the committee reports.
*Barack Obama voted Aye on the conference report.
*Barack Obama voted Aye for the 2005 giveaway to the Oil and Gas Industry.

Where was Barack Obama's judgment in 2005?

Hillary Clinton voted against the giveaway for Cheney's friends. She was among a handful of senators who understood that this bill would take us in the wrong direction.

One of the great selling points was the credits for investment in new refineries. Do you see all that new construction that is helping to lower the price of oil? I didn't think so. This was a scam just like most government programs that supposedly "work with" big oil.

And where was Barack Obama?

He was taking care of the Coal Industry in his home state of Illinois. Now it's all well and good for senators to help their state. That's politics as usual. And maybe he was even trying to preserve some coal mining jobs. That's also Politics as Usual. But give me a break. This is the bill that has lined big oil's pockets with billions and billions of our dollars while doing nothing to help our energy independence.

Matthew Yglesias takes a critical non-partisan look. It's worth a visit for the Obama supporter comments.

Last night, Hillary Clinton called the 2005 energy bill that Barack Obama voted for the "Dick Cheney lobbyist energy bill" citing its "enormous giveaways to oil and gas industry." Washington Post fact-checker Michael Dobbs says she's wrong, but in the real world she's right. I assume Obama was more swayed by giveaways to coal interests -- Illinois is a coal-producing state and before his presidential campaign geared up he was trying to grope his way toward a coal-friendly environmentalism before eventually, and rightly, giving up -- than to the oil and gas industry, but it was still a bad bill and a fair tag.

I don't know about you but I'm kind of pissed at people like Barack Obama every time I fill my gas tank.

1. A big part of why energy is so high is because of Iraq and deregulation
by previous administrations both Democratic and republican

18. and there is no excuse for Hillary to say that she and mccain were qualified to be president
while Obama is just a speech. Because of that she will NOT get my support

going one-on-one with her opponent is fair game, but including mccain in her attack, she has lost my support period

3. Yeah, I know he's taking care of the coal industry in IL
but talking about "clean coal" is such a joke. THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS CLEAN COAL. I know we have lots of it, but there's nothing clean about it, from strip mining away mountaintops in Appalachia to burning it and shooting up the soot to high enough in our atmosphere that people don't notice. But it's not clean. It just isn't. Every time he says it is, he's lying and I wish he'd stop.

6. Check out these coal ads that Walker uses
to convince W. Virginia that they're ok. Quite funny actually.

What the Saudis are expecting in return for their $10 million "gift" to the Clintons?

9. You mean this bill?
I see nothing like what that report says, unless it's a different energy bill from 2005

If it is, please provide the link instead of just giving the link for the conference report

SENATE PASSES BIPARTISAN ENERGY BILL 85-12

If it's this one, I wonder why Hillary voted against it

11. This is goofy, it's like telling a Senator from Iowa that he's wrong about Ethanol and Iowa .....
should quit growing corn. Yeah, it might go over well in parts of the country, but it won't go ever well at home where he is held accountable.

It would be nice to see this addressed.

15. Interesting about Obama's ties to coal. Greenpeace activists against it sailed thru the Great Lakes
this summer to the midwest to do what they could to stop the coal industry from further polluting the planet.

22. I support Obama's support of America's coal industry. The US has 25% of the worlds...
...proven coal supply which makes us the Saudi Arabia of coal. Not only that but coal can be processed cleanly by capturing the CFC's from the refining process safely. It's been done for decades in other countries and the reason we're not doing it here is mostly because of our stupid congress loving the Saudis over Americans.

The French also have been recycling nuke waste for decades, the issue with nuke waste and safety of nukes plants have been addressed by the French...you know, they people who didn't follow Bush into Iraq.

24. WHY did Clintons deep-six BCCI matters in the 90s leading to Bush2, 9-11, and this Iraq war?
You think THAT was sound jedgment siding with BushInc to protect their secrecy and privilege over the rights of the citizens to honeat and open government accountable to the people?

Why doesn't that BOTHER you? Knowing full well what happened BECAUSE of the Clintons protection of closed government - why do you want it REPEATED?

You never bother to explain WHY you want to see the protection of BushInc continued into the next decade.

27. You are pushing a lie using Hillary's talking points that have been debunkd
In closing, we'd just note that Clinton is no innocent on sending out misleading mailers. We reported on Feb. 6 that a mailing by her campaign contained a "big distortion" of Obama's position on Social Security taxes and falsely implied that he had "no plan" to address mortgage foreclosures. It also attacked him for voting for a "Dick Cheney" energy bill that gave "huge tax breaks to oil companies," when in fact the bill gave a net tax increase to oil companies.

She is willing to take down the only chance of beating McCain by pulling her stupid crap. They are all politicians.
