CNN TV: Repugs: If Spitzer does not resign in 48 hours we will impeach him, and we have the votes.
Edited on Mon Mar-10-08 09:58 PM by Thepricebreaker
Was watching CNN.

They said if he does not resign in 48 hours the republicans will start impeachment proceedings, and they have the votes.

They feel that he is using his office to help bargain for a plea deal.

I guess only republicans have the balls to start impeachment proceedings?

Sorry ment to post this in General.

29. He committed a crime and that matters...and dont you dare question my democratic beliefs
Even if I think Prostituion should be legal, he still committed a crime and should know better. Second he is a hypocrite. He is known in almost an arrogant way to to hold himself to this higher moral standard. He even prosecuted prostitution rings, and he becomes the governor and does exactly what he was railing against. You dont have to be a repuke to see that this man has got to go.

Oh, and kiss my ass.

12. Solicitation ...

No, this would be over solicitation which actually IS a crime. Spitzer should go quietly.

15. Can't tell from news:
may not ever be 'named.'

'Mr. Spitzer’s involvement with the prostitution operation came to light in court papers filed last week, the officials said, as federal prosecutors charged four people with operating the service, Emperor’s Club V.I.P. Mr. Spitzer was caught on a federal wiretap discussing payments and arranging to meet a prostitute in a Washington hotel room last month. The affidavit, which did not identify Mr. Spitzer by name, indicated that he had used the prostitution service before, although it was not clear how often. . .

Mr. Spitzer has not been charged with a crime. But one law enforcement official who has been briefed on the case said that Mr. Spitzer’s lawyers would probably meet soon with federal prosecutors to discuss any possible legal exposure. The official said the discussions were likely to focus not on prostitution, but on how it was paid for: Whether the payments from Mr. Spitzer to the service were made in a way to conceal their purpose and source. That could amount to a crime called structuring, which carries a penalty of up to five years in prison.'

18. Violations of the Mann Act..

A horrible piece of federal legislation that should be removed from the books or heavily amended.

Example: If you buy a ticket for your gay lover to come visit you from another state, you could be charged (technically) with violating the Mann Act. ( all you need is a federal grand jury to decide that gay sex is "immoral"... hell, they could even decide that heterosexuals are immoral, I include the homosexual example because that one is, sadly, very likely in many parts of our country to be deemed such).

Others charged in the past...

* Chuck Berry
* Charlie Chaplin
* Rex Ingram
* Jack Johnson
* William I. Thomas
* Frank Lloyd Wright
* Charles Manson

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mann_Act

Mann Act convictions are a serious matter, all told, he could face 10 years or more in a federal prison if charged and convicted.

42. I'm pretty sure the Jack Johnson law ...

I'm pretty sure the Jack Johnson law would be struck down if it was appealed at this time. The so called "Federalist Society" members can even realize that the phrase "immoral acts" is so vague as to be meaningless.

Bottom line is this guy paid for sex. It wasn't just a "little" money, he paid an obsessively LARGE money for sex. He was putting out gobs. That's kinda surprising given that he's a governor and they probably could have arranged for him to meet some cute little politicos who would fill the mistress job.

It's REALLY bad judgement and Spitzer should just step aside for the good of the Democratic party.

so that doesn't happen.. If the press puts enough pressure on them , they can sometimes be shamed into quitting..but most republicans are un-shameable (probably not a real word)

but can't remember where

saw some posts today on huffington saying this was a high level witch hunt to take Spitzer out, and well planned out

i believe it....wtf was the IRS involved in this? for starters

and invoking some white slavery law?

this is such a tragedy for Spitzer

but did he do this? midlife crisis? what?

i don't think he should resign

because of his OWN hypocrisy on the subject of prostitution rings. I really hope he resigns...I'd rather not have to hear about his apparent sexual fetishes on the news cycle 24-7.

21. small joke...
The whole thing is a huge misunderstanding...

The wiretap overheard a conversation Elliot had with the NY Audubon Society...

The were honoring the Governor for his commitment to support bird watchers everywhere AND had just named a new species in his honor...

(wire tap starts)

"So Governor, what do you think of that bird?"

"Uhh, Spitzer swallows? Sounds great!"

(OK, probably lame, but I try)

35. He should resign, though not for the reasons stated
He should resign because he has all but admitted he committed a crime. This will seriously impair his ability as governor of NY. The residents of NY don't deserve this. He should resign and drop out of sight, because otherwise his prominence will tar Hillary, since he is one of her chief supporters. And frankly, I think he should resign because of his hypocrisy, going after prostitution rings on the one hand, yet patronizing them on the other hand.
