Obama Accuses Clinton of Using "Republican Tactics"
Barack Obama continued to go after Hillary Clinton this evening, accusing her of using “Republican tactics” against him. “When in the midst of a campaign you decide to throw the kitchen sink at your opponent because you’re behind,” he said, “and your campaign starts leaking photographs of me when I’m traveling overseas wearing the native clothes of those folks to make people afraid, and then you run an ad talking about who’s going to answer the phone at three in the morning, an ad straight out of the Republican playbook, that’s not real change.” Read more: http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2008/03/10/politics/fromtheroad/entry3923339.shtml

52. Republican tactics like calling Clinton supporters Clintonistas?
Or accusing them of lying when they clearly aren't? Or race-baiting and then blaming it on them? Or trying to drudge up scandals to hurt them with? Releasing an ad saying "Hillary's a liar who will say anything" but then crying foul when Hillary releases an ad saying "John McCain is experienced" because it might hurt Obama's general election chances? And yet anything - anything - Camp Obama does is totally cool and acceptable.

Ever listen to the Ed Schultz show? He uses every Rush Limbaugh term ever coined and, heck, could probably sub for Ol' Fatty any day of the week without his listeners noticing a measurable difference.

cause that's what "grown-ups" do right? Panic and throw their opponent and the whole party under the bus. Wish I could be a grown up too :eyes:

This shit is getting laughable, watching Hillary's supporters find excuses for using Roves play book, especially after years on DU watching people slam the hell out of the right for the lying, cheap, shitty tactics they use. Now it's ok, because it's "grown-up". And when the right comes out using those tactics again, whether it's against Hillary or Obama, I'm sure all you Hillary supporters will say "it's ok, it's just how the grown ups play.

14. It is not surprising Hillary uses Republican tactics
When she has over the past few years taken increasingly more conservative Republican positions on issues. She did this with the 2008 campaign in mind, wanting to disadvantage her Republican opponent by making her position on certain issues, most prominently Iraq, virtually indistinguishable from the Republican nominee's position.

In that process, she alienated many liberals among the Democratic base. This was a deliberate decision Hillary Clinton made, to risk alienating the liberals, in an effort to attract more disenchanted Republicans, as well as Independents. Thus it is not surprising those same liberals react to her campaign as they do -- with total disinterest if not disdain in supporting her.

Hillary's calculation was that there were greater numbers of votes to be had among those potentially defecting Republicans coupled with those possible Independents over the number of votes from the liberal pool.

I wonder today how she feels about that pre-conceived calculation. I personally see it as a tremendous mistake.

49. How is an alleged & unsubstantiated smear an Obama hypocrisy? (actual article linked below)
Edited on Mon Mar-10-08 11:38 PM by Melinda
In re the alleged "Uncle Tom" smear, please read the original article posted at poltico 2/28/08 and linked below.

Cleaver said he did not believe the Obama campaign was behind the disturbing e-mails and phone calls he has received.

“I refuse to believe that Sen. Obama gave orders for something like this to happen. This is a contradiction of the new politics that Sen. Obama is running on,” he said. “My fear is with all of the nastiness, we’re going to have a whole lot of kissing and making up to do as a party.”

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0208/8762.html

Okay, so now that it's clear Rep. Cleaver believes Sen. Obama and his campaign are not involved in this alleged smear, how do you make the leap to Sen. Obama being a "wee bit hypocritical"?

It's very possible I'm just not as smart as you and don't understand how attributing this alleged Uncle Tom remark to Obama supporters makes Sen. Obama a hypocrite... so let's pretend I'm 10 yrs old, and you can explain in to me in a logical and concise way that any 10 yr old can understand, k`?

Thanks in advance for helping me to understand! :)

58. Pretending you're 10 may be an overly-generous assessment of your competence
Surely your limited attention span remembers the news of Jesse Jackson Jr., another one in the Obama camp, admitting to strongarming black politicians to drop support of Clinton?

In an interview, Cleaver offered a glimpse of private conversations.

He said Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. of Illinois had recently asked him "if it comes down to the last day and you're the only superdelegate? ... Do you want to go down in history as the one to prevent a black from winning the White House?

"I told him I'd think about it," Cleaver concluded.

Jackson, an Obama supporter, confirmed the conversation, and said the dilemma may pose a career risk for some black politicians. "Many of these guys have offered their support to Mrs. Clinton, but Obama has won their districts. So you wake up without the carpet under your feet. You might find some young primary challenger placing you in a difficult position" in the future, he added.

Shit rolls uphill, darling. Obama knows what goes on in his camp, and Jackson Jr. has freely admitted that he has been strong-arming other black lawmakers. Rep. Cleaver is just a bit naive unfortunately, in his belief that the Golden Boy Obama wouldn't dare stoop to such things.

He can, has, and will.

Because I don't know what the hell was Obama's point in noting that Republicans having "ideas", without criticizing their BAD IDEAS, which were about 90% of their ideas in the 90's.

Hypocrite.

The "ideas" nonsense was an attempt to pander to Republicans, and in doing so, he made no sense whatsoever.
