Clinton's supporters are abandoning her in droves

The following comments from former Hillary supporters, and life-long feminists and party regulars, deserve your attention.

They were all offered, over the past 24 hours, with signatures to the petition "Super Delegates: Stop the Damage, Pledge for Obama NOW".

Alan F Jones
I have supported the Clintons since 1992 through thick and thin. I am now done with them...

Alice Allen
I voted for Bill Clinton twice; but this time I think the Clintons are very selfishly looking out for themselves. The polls show that McCain is gaining ground and I think HIllary is hurting the Democratic party. ... We need a real change from this slime type of politics.

Wendy Hunter Roberts
I am shocked and dismayed. I wanted to believe we were better than this. Surely we cannot allow such power-lust to rule the day.

Timothy Goldsmith
My party and my country is more important to me than Senator Clinton's political ambitions.

Margarita Rogers
This negativity is truly a shame. I would have hoped that Hillary would have kept a positive attitude toward her fight for the nomination, however I see she will stop at nothing to try obtaining it. It truly makes me ill.

donald heldenbrand
That comment of Hillary's was just the end. She's going to lose us many many votes in November if she continues down her current path.

Xavier Cordova jr
Ms. Clinton has made it abundantly clear that this race isn't about the Democrats recapturing the White House... it's about the CLINTONS recapturing the White House...

Grant Acosta
... I am appalled at Senator Clinton's tactics and lack of long term vision as to future repercussions for the party and its goals...

Heather Clark
I am truly disgusted with Senator Clinton's remark about Senator Obama, is she going to be the one to unite us? I don't know if i can vote for her now...

angela hagerty
Clinton has the right to compare and contrast her record with Obama's. There's always some heat during political campaigns. However, Hillary Clinton has stepped over the line ... It's shameful and it degrades our party and our chances in November.

Ryan Donahue
Senator Clinton should be given a chance to apologize for this. ...If she does not apologise AND amend her ways, she should be dumped from the Democratic Party. I once supported two GREAT nominees, I fought for BOTH Senators. Now I have egg on my face for doing so. I no longer support Senator Clinton. ...

Judy Russell
I am very upset ... I question her devotion to the people of the United States and to the Democratic party as a whole. Before I felt quite comfortable voting for either Clinton or Obama as the Democratic nominee. Now I am not.

Dorothy Anderson
Elections, most importantly this one, is about serving the people, not an individual desire for power... It is NOT about EGO. It is about SERVICE! If the Democratic Party, of which I have been a part all 71 years of my life, wants to survive it needs to return to democratic principles.

Jeanette Brown
As 44 year old life long Democrat, I am deeply offended by the recent actions of Senator Clinton. Ms. Clinton seems to be determined to destroy the Democratic Party if it does not bend to her agenda.

And so on...

You can see the complete list of comments, and sign the petition here: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/SuperDelegatesMustPledgeForObama/index.html

Not surprisingly, as her campaign collapses her most ardent remaining supporters have become increasingly desperate, hostile, and - dare I say it - hysterical. They're slinging around terms like "Obamaturds", "Obamatons", "Kool-Aid", "cult", "Jim Jones", "misogynists", "haters", etc. It's human nature I guess. But disheartening.

It's hard to let go.

78. Kerry and Dukakis won their nominations with ease unlike your HRC
If she can't win the Democratic primary - even though she is married to Bill and had the party and media behind her, she won't win a general election.

Kerry had a very tough year to run in - had he not run in 2004 and run this year, we likely wouldn't be speaking of HRC. We might be speaking of Obama - as a great VP for Kerry.

300 comments represents an enormous trend in thought. Few posts on Digg ever receive more than that. 50,000 people visited DeadElephant.ORG from that post. But that's just one post on one site. If you really want to understand the depth of feeling about what Hillary has done, you don't have to look too hard. It's EVERYWHERE.

Hell, even Nancy Pelosi, today, described what Hillary did as "... proclaiming that Senator McCain would be a better Commander in Chief than Obama.”

You are in deep deep shit.

65. You do realize that Pelosi wants Rahm Emanuel out of the House, don't you?
Pelosi despises Emanuel and vice-versa. If Obama becomes Potus, Emanuel calls on his good friend Axelrod to run his campaign for Obama's vacant seat. Bada-bing, bada-boom, say Hello to Senator Emanuel from Illinois. Rahm is a Chicago pol who carries a lot of influence wherever he goes.

Pelosi and Emanuel went for each other's jugular over their respective choices for Majority Leader. Emanuel won with his support of Steny Hoyer. Pelosi lost with her support of Murtha. It was a crushing blow.

71. I'm not adding anything up, merely offering commentary on why Pelosi would side against Hillary.
Remember also that right now Pelosi is the most powerful woman in America, politically speaking, third in line to the presidency. With Hillary as POTUS, she is relegated to second most powerful.

I am very wary of "impeachment is off the table" Pelosi. Her tirades mean little to me.

I'm having a bad time with my Internet connection and haven't been able to watch the video.

I will say, though, that she's like any otherl politician, and Pelosi is not above making self-serving interpretations and seeking political gain from them. If I knew more about her relationship with Hillary, that would help me to assess her comments, also.

94. I agree with your general perspective on politicians, on Nancy P, BUT...
this quote is hard to construe as having any other meaning:

Nancy P: “I think that the Clinton administration has fairly ruled that out (dream ticket) by proclaiming that Senator McCain would be a better Commander in Chief than Obama.”

granted, she may have ulterior motives. Probably has MANY other motives. But what she said she believes about Hillary's comments about "...and Obama has a speech..." is that Hillary was endorsing McCain over Obama - not merely claiming to be the best candidate to face McCain.

Regardless, Nancy P (I'm finding I like calling her that) is an "undeclared Super Delegate". Looks pretty clear to me who she'll declare for.

95. In all fairness, you will admit that being President is more than Commander in Chief?
It's george w. bush who elevated that position because he was trying to create a "legacy," when in truth the president's role encompasses far more than simply Commander in Chief. I believe both Hillary and Barack will rely more on Congress than their own experience and opinions when it comes to making decision while wearing the Commander in Chief hat, anyway. Maybe that's why I'm not perturbed by Hillary's comment about McCain.

Of course Pelosi will endorse Obama. They have similar perspectives.

I think a lot of the vitriol here is people reacting to what are perceived attacks. Also, none of us are face to face and it's really hard to gauge what a person's genuine attitude is by merely reading words, as words can be so easily misconstrued.

28. As a Clinton supporter I'm having a hard time warming up to
Obama. Many of us really like Hillary and Bill Clinton and we want to go back to the days of peace and prosperity and real solutions to real problems. So when Obama surrogates call Bill Clinton a racist, we resent it. When Obama says that Hillary is in the pocket of the lobbyists, we resent it. When we hear Obama surrogates talking about the Clintons the way the Republicans talk about the Clintons, we really resent it.

Although those of us who support and respect Hillary will probably not vote McCain, it can not be assumed that we are going to support Obama. Many of us are very deeply offended and I'm trying to like Obama and it's just not
happening. I would warn Obama supporters that being anti-Clinton might result in a Republican president.

42. Hillary will
win Pennsylvania and Florida, possibly Michigan. She has won the big states it takes to win the general election. Neither can win with the pledged delegates, and unlike many posters on this board, the superdelegates will be forced to make a decision based on their loyalty to the party (as stated in the rules), and who can win in November. That will be Hillary.

Go Hillary!!!!!

57. Uh.....
Florida and Michigan should be off the table because Hillary herself signed the documents that say just that.

Secondly, even with Pennsylvania she will still be woefully behind.

So fantasy aside the only way she could win would be to woo over ALL the super delegates who are not about to subvert the will of the pledged delegates and their voters.

HILLARY LOST.

62. No, Florida and Michigan
will be seated. The voters in those two states deserve to have their vote counted. True, the DNC has rules, but disenfranchising the voters is not their goal. It's in the works now to figure out what will be done, but their vote will be counted.

OBAMA HAS NOT WON!!!

67. guess it depends on what you mean by "counted"
If you mean Hillary keeps all the delegates she "won" when Obama was either not on the ballet or not allowed to campaign, than "counting" them would be to DISenfranchise the voters of those states. If you mean holding a re-vote, under ordinary circumstances I would support that, BUT Hillary's appalling scorched-earth tactics make such a process too destructive to be carried out. We can't win against McCain while our party burns. This is all Hillary's own doing. Let's bring it to a close now.

102. I don't follow your reasoning....
your saying let's go ahead and disenfranchise the people of FL and MI because Hillary's scorched earth tactics need to be punished????? Please, I think the people of FL and MI need to be allowed to have their vote counted. Let's let this process play itself out. Furthermore, I don't buy your premise that Hillary's campaign is "scorched earth".

64. um. no. She won't win by enough in either FL or PA
She'll lose in MI and NC and IN. And the pledged delegates will not overturn the popular and pledged delegate lead. Today's comments by Pelosi make it damned clear that she supports Obama and she brings a hell of a lot of SDs with her. Hilly is done. She can stay in but she'll still be done.

82. Collect call from reality
Here's where current polling puts Clinton and Obama vs. McCain:

Yes, Hillary can win in November, but Obama is more likely to win. He's farther ahead in the primary and he's already ahead in the GE. If Hillary loses just one of the states she's winning in this recent poll — http://www.surveyusa.com — then she loses. If you really care about the party, and not just Hillary, you'd realize we're better off with the candidate that makes the map on the left.

36. The democratic process is NOT over
and I don't think I've heard anyone state that Obama has won the primary. If that were case, Hillary would be out. The process is still in progress.

72. I selected comments from those who USED TO support Hillary.
If you don't believe them, that's your choice. But if you actually read their comments, it's pretty compelling. They are offended and disappointed by the behavior of a politician that they have supported for years and years.

everyone might want to remember that in the GE...people across the country vote for the candidates...no more caucuses. Think that might change the Obama surge?

When people actually have to mark a ballot, Hillary wins. Odd what?

99. Thanks for the link.
Here's what I said:

Please stop the bleeding. I have become convinced that an orchestrated effort on the part of the Democratic Party Super-delegates is required to convince Hillary Clinton that she must abandon this race. She can not win, and should not win. The longer she stays in, the more damage she does to the Party. I supported and apologized for the Clintons for twelve years (1992-2004). No more. Never again. I will vote for Senator Clinton if she is the nominee, but I will donate no money, and I will not apologize for her. You can not throw my party under the bus and expect me to like it. In endorsing Senator McCain over the Democratic front-runner, she has done exactly that.
