Pelosi: Split Ticket is “Impossible”
Speaker slams the door on “dream team” scenario.

“I think that the Clinton administration has fairly ruled that out by proclaiming that Senator McCain would be a better Commander in Chief than Obama.”

Gee, I wonder how Nancy really feels. http://thepage.time.com/2008/03/11/pelosi-split-ticket-is-impossible/

87. Actually, if she does lose to BO, she could very well be the next Majority Leader.
Barack Obama will indeed have to cooperate and kiss Hillary's ass to get what he wants.

225. Excuse me - but as a woman, I'm just curious what hole the piehole is that you reference?
:eyes:

PS: Nancy Pelosi is one of the highest ranking Democrats in Party Leadership. It is her place to jump in and frankly, its about time some of the leadership in the Democratic Party started speaking up and out about the outrageous behaviour and statements that have been made and are dividing the party.

... since everyone, male and female, both eat pie and speak with that orifice.... Why would it refer to anything else?

239. Sexist comment
I don't care if you ARE a woman, it's still sexist
even if you have a habit of stuffing pie into what you referred;
it shows no class, is juvenile, and SO not funny.

I'd expect this out of a male preteen, not an adult.

It's a mouth stupid. I don't need hyper-sensitive, fragile word police telling me what I can and can not say. If something you read offends you, do us all a favor, AND DON"T READ IT. Better yet, stay in bed all day, so nothing in this big scary world will "offend" you.

Oh and feel free to say "Fuck You" because you think your really clever. Nothing you can say will offend me, see unlike you, I've GOT a spine.

She would be a good majority leader. Perhaps Obama can offer her that position while they're still running in the primaries:

Obama: "I would like to offer Senator Clinton the Majority Leader of the Senate Position in the Fall."

It's not too soon for that, is it?

"The Senate Majority Leader is the highest ranking member of the majority party in the U.S. Senate. A senator is elected to the post at the beginning of each Congress by members of his/her respective party conference."

238. Shouldn't be hard
Barack doesn't tend to want much. The Democratic Party platform will be crafted outside of Barack and he won't buck things overmuch. That's our best chance for extending health care to the 45 million uninsured Americans, solving economic issues and civil rights to the gay community. Could be nice, though. I think most Congressional Democrats are actually progressive.

...It's nice to know that our democratic party is paying attention to
how utterly disgusting Clinton is being. It's nice to see someone
calling her out. It's also nice to realize that behind Pelosi's
comments are many, many politicians who have had it with the Clintons.

Hillary can't play dirty like this, and be so selfish and destructive--without
kharma coming back at her and biting her on the ass.

She didn't have to play like such a snake.

155. When Hillary made the comment about McCain having experience and Obama having a speech
she revealed her total disloyalty to the party. Why should the party support a back stabber? Hillary is dead to me after that whole fiasco. I'll still vote for her if she's the nominee simply because I believe that we need the party to win. Evidently Senator Clinton doesn't hold the same belief, by her words I think she'd personally vote for McCain over Obama and that is treasonous.

180. Some of us saw that on October 31, 2006
When Hillary Clinton sided with Rove and McCain in the right wings twisting of John Kerry's words (that came to be known as the "botched joke" but was really "you got played again, Democrats").

She took an opportunity to insure Kerry was out of it even if it might hurt the party in the 2006 election that was just days away. There were many alternative responses, but she chose to give credibility to the right wing smear, instead of backing up a fellow Democrat who she knows DAMN WELL didn't mean what the right wing said he meant.

I am sorry that Hillary is the way she is but I am not sorry that more people are finally realizing it.

Pelosi and Carter can whip the supers during the 2nd ballot. I wonder how Edwards and Richardson will do whipping up votes for HRC after the 1st ballot.

If you'd get off YOUR sorry ass and do YOUR fucking job, Bush and Cheney would be under impeachment right now. Instead, Congress is WASTING ITS TIME investigating steroid use among ball players. Yeah, that has a HUGE IMPACT on the American people.

Why, there isn't a day that goes by that my life isn't negatively impacted because some pro ball player is using steroids. :sarcasm:

Ignore high gas prices and the OBSCENE oil company profits.

Ignore the LIES of Bush - 935 just about Iraq.

Ignore all the other crap going on, all the laws being broken.

So, tell us Nancy, WHAT, EXACTLY, does Bushco have on YOU that prevents you from DOING YOUR FUCKING JOB?

GO GET ANOTHER JOB, NANCY. YOU'RE FAILING AT SPEAKER.

40. I am NOT a Hillary supporter.
I've been and still am an Edwards supporter.

This isn't about HILLARY - it's about the SPEAKER of the House sticking her fat foot in where it doesn't belong. She needs to focus on what she SHOULD be doing instead of interjecting her feelings in other topics.

The #1 thing on Nancy's list right now should be Bushco. They've literally been getting away with MURDER for over 7 years. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, NANCY.

Especially since Republicans will show up just to vote AGAINST her even though they hate McCain and would stay home otherwise. Of course, when they pull the "Republican" lever they will keep a lot of really nasty cusses in the House as well.

General apathy towards the John McCain candidacy could yield some really significant gains in both houses. We shouldn't bait the conservative election hook with Hillary.

She really didn't give that answer until the reporter pressed her on it. Her answer is quite revealing though. It is clear that she is not happy about Senator Clinton's remarks. Many more of these, and there might be a very strong response from party insiders.

Party loyalty, that is the speaker's message. and as speaker, that is one of her jobs. If she can do that one, maybe she can also put impeachment back on the table where it belongs.

But she is right to tell Hillary to stop with the Zell Miller impersonations.

I'd agree she was being thrown under the bus if I hadn't been part of this board for the last 5+ years and watched as Speaker Pelosi was castigated almost daily since made Speaker by people who are now split over an entirely different reason. So as I see it, Clinton supporters will now hate her (if they hadn't already which many of the people on this board did) and Sen Obama supporters will have a new found love for her. Hypocrisy abounds on both sides every fucking day here.

191. What?
I'd love to see impeachment too but how the fuck are you going to impeach let alone override vetoes when you don't even have a 60% majority? If there weren't so many entrenched establishment type dems who insist on ignoring the South and Midwest then there might be that 60% plus majority in both houses. For the simple reason that it will not go through, impeachment isn't that important. And I would point out that talking to the press is part of her job. And BTW Edwards isn't on this impeach Bush bandwagon either. I'd love to see him face criminal charges. But then again there is something wimpy about the Democratic party. And yeah, it pisses me off too but were you this pissed off when the Republicans hijacked the legislative process? This congress has done a lot, you have really gone off the deep end pal.

... don't reflect what she sees the way that Obama will run things. She's been a huge disappointment. That's my biggest concern still with Obama, is that he's not being more strident in positions that benefit Americans at the expense of the Corporatocracy... I hope he's only doing that to make sure that the corporate media doesn't try to squash him more than what is already happening with the Hillary camp and will later show some more populist leanings after he wins the election.

That is the way that a Speaker is suppose to talk.

She must really be feeling the heat of this battle to come out and say that phrase.

Now if she had only said,"Impeachment is right in the middle of the table, it can stay on or it could go off inch by inch and I've got a huge table."

That's what a real Speaker would have proclaimed.

... who in many other instances folks like me will criticize, but in the case of how the superdelegates vote, she was one that was out front on this before most anyone else in saying that the popular vote should be respected by the delegates in very strong terms. Though I don't let her off the hook for other things, I strongly support her actions there.

As for Pelosi, she seems to be "jumping on the bandwagon" a little bit, and has far more stuff that I still have a problem with, even if she does call the Clinton's campaign strategy for the BS that it is on this issue...

145. Gotcha. That saves me one heated posting.
:)

I can imagine a possible need for superdelegates to override the pledged delegate count, but only if there was known interference* or tainted elections** in one or more states affecting the delegate count. But overriding the pledged delegate count simply because the party elders think one candidate is slightly better than another, hypothetically, is complete bullsh*t.

* e.g. malicious crossover voting for Clinton in TX.

** e.g. were the MI & FL delegations to be seated as-is.

158. superdelegates might make sense for something like a "spitzer" style event...
If we had a nominee been decided who's suddenly exposed in a fashion that Spitzer has been, obviously a new candidate would need to be found in such an emergency. Then, perhaps with a vote of the then pledged delegates or something like that, the super delegates could be "activated" to help steer votes to the next best candidate or someone else (like Al Gore) in that instance. But then super delegates should only be used in such emergencies, not as a "normal" way of manipulating the primary vote counts. Super delegates, as voted in officials, if we restrict those who are in there to just being voted in officials, in a way are the best way to represent what an alternative "vote" would happen in the instance of such an emergency and would then make sense. But used as they are today, they function as a sort of "Politburo", which this country increasingly can do without as the need for more grass roots involvement to force big changes is more and more important.

However on this she is correct. Those remarks that Clinton made on several occasions were past going against a rival. She was actively promoting the Republican over a Democrat. Pelosi was correct to and is within her rights as the leading Democrat, come down on such things. It hurts the party and its chances as a whole in the GE.

140. That game has already begun.... denigration of caucus-derived delegates
The Clinton camp knows they cannot catch Obama on elected, pledged delegates and so are now trying to make the case that the popular vote leader should be the nominee, regardless of the final pledged delegate count.

Their strategy (however wrong) is based on planting the concept that caucus-derived delegates are less representative than primary-derived delegates, due to the relative turnout of caucuses vs primaries, and so Obama's pledged delegate lead should be disregarded as not representative of the "will of the people." Once that's been accomplished, they'll make the case that the superdelegates should vote to insure that the popular vote winner becomes the nominee.

Of course, once they fail to win Pennsylvania by a large margin, their strategy will again adjust.

(I'll skip w/ pointing out just how wrong and deceitful they are.)

121. Clinton didn't say "I'm more experienced than Obama." That would have been fine.
She said ONLY she and McCain have a lifetime of experience to bring into the White House.

I might have even been okay with that statement.

But my outrage comes from her claiming that in this context, Obama ONLY has a speech in 2002 to offer. That is complete, utter bullshit.

So it wasn't a factual analysis. It was a targeted smear. One that lifted up the Republican candidate while she blatantly distorted and demeaned the Democratic candidate.

It was and is outrageous.

132. Nancy is probably too late. The Clintons have done too much damage now.
Geraldine Ferraro's comments are probably going to be the last straw. I'd figured this could play out to May before Hillary would have passed the point of no return to be Obama's VP.

I think she's just about out now for good to even be considered.

If Obama is smart (and he is) he will just let the Clintons keep up their shit (and that's what it is shit) because it is turning off more and more Democrats who will give him the green light and approval to keep her off his ticket.

I'm slowly coming around to the fact of accepting there can be no dream ticket and the best strategy is to let Hillary destroy what little credibility she has left all on her own.

The more negative she goes with her "kitchen sink" the greater the understanding becomes with voters that she is not a team player and would be a hazard to Obama.

On to Denver!

Pelosi and the Dem Congress were back-stabbed by the Dem base far more viciously than anything Clinton has supposedly done to Obama. Pelosi didn't get us out of the war that Obama would have fought so valiantly against in the Senate had he only been there in 2003. Those are two dearly held gross misconceptions. The bad person in one of the misconceptions is endorsing the good person in the other.

On edit: Changed "Obama supporters" in the title to "some Obama supporters." I realize it is obviously possible to be for Obama without necessarily believing he would have voted against the IWR or that Pelosi "failed" to force us out of the war.

They are after Spitzer's ass with impeachment and rightfully so. Yet Nancy Pelosi had even more reason to have gone after bush. And yet, she did nothing. I am so disappointed in her, I can't even stand to look or listen to her anymore. She's a fool. She couldn't even rally her own party that has a majority in the House to go after bush with impeachment. There might not be enough for votes in the Senate to remove, but certainly there is enough votes in the House to impeach, if Pelosi had made an effort. I can't think of anyone more deserving than bush, to have his record blemished by impeachment. I can't think of a damn thing Pelosi has achieved in her tenure. Good Lord, this party has gone to the dogs. The attacks on one another, the impotence of Pelosi and Reid, just unbelievable. Listen to Pelosi? What the hell for? It's a waste of time.

It's hard to get people's attention when your approval is lower than the president's.

209. Pelosi is wrong like she was about Murtha
Hillary is our leader and Barack would make a GREAT VP! The Superdelegates will rush in at the last minute out of loyalty to Bill and make sure Hillary gets the nod. Then Obama will complete the dream team. Its the team we need to beat McCaine!

240. I disagree with Pelosi
I think they can have a shared ticket, but Hillary will have to take the VP role since she is behind. I would love for them to come to an agreement on this ASAP before we give the Republicans to much ammunition. Clinton could bring most of her supporters and Obama could bring most of his...we will lose some votes due to one or the other on the ticket, but I think the amount would not be hugely significant. At this point with them running a close split, this solution would make the most sense going forward...Gov. Dean, time to get the back room conversations going before the party becomes any more polarized and hateful to each other.
