Dear Geraldine Ferrarro:
I know you probably do not read Democratic Underground. But,I decided to post this letter here, for I do not know your e-mail address. I have been a Democrat all my life. I have always been proud of my party and the values it stands for. Gender, social and racial equality being right up there on the top of the list of the things that I pride my Democratic affiliation with. Our party is a party that tears down barriers and obstacles that all people must overcome. The Democratic legacy is one that works to equal and level the playing field for all Americans.

Today after reading you comments regarding Senator Obama, I am deeply saddened. Back in 1984 I voted and campaigned for you and Vice presiden Mondale. It was my first year I could vote and I was so proud of our party to nominate a woman for V.P. I also remember the 84 Democratic national convention and Fritz Mondale telling the truth about taxes. Although it didn't serve him well in the G.E. it was the truth. And I admired him for that.
But coming back to recent events. I don't know if your comments were because of pride of your gender or you really are that narrow minded. Either way they are WRONG! They run counter of core democratic principals and you should be ashamed. You owe Sen. Obama an apology as well as all of your fellow Democrats. We as Democrats know full well that the alleged liberal media will be too eager to let these comments slide. But also as Democrats we must not let them slide and hold you accountable. Also Democrats, if we must sell our souls to win elections. What have we won? Our cause is right, our values are noble if we stand our ground and come up short we live to battle another day. If we win the battle without selling out our convictions the victory is so much sweeter.

2. Thank you.
Mondale was classy and--save a few bum quotes--Ferraro has a record of being a good Democrat. If she falls into a slight old fashioned way of thinking, I think we can forgive her her trespasses. She's from a different generation. She's not as enlightened as she needs to be, but she's no racist; just a little too conventional in her thinking to see who the best candidate is.

We should all address with this level of respect the people we disagree with. Well said, Ameridem, well said.
