FL House delegation is "opposed to a mail-in campaign or any redo of any kind."
Washington, DC – The Members of Florida’s Democratic Delegation in the U.S. House of Representatives issued the following statement regarding the seating of Florida’s delegates at the DNC National Convention this August.

“We are committed to working with the DNC, the Florida State Democratic party, our Democratic leaders in Florida, and our two candidates to reach an expedited solution that ensures our 210 delegates are seated.

“Our House delegation is opposed to a mail-in campaign or any redo of any kind.”

Based on what logic, exactly?

32. Oh, I see I need to explain:
You see, the little "?" at the end means that the statement was an interrogative. The person making such an interrogative statement is actually *requesting* information.

I understand that's a bit tricky, but with this new found knowledge perhaps you can provide the information requested?

GOOD
Florida had their chance and crashed and burned, FLORIDA strikes again. They wont pay for an election and people voting then had been told that there would be no delegates and the candidates promised not to campaign. Man what a mess

I saw him this morning talking about the voters who didn't show up in Florida.

2. They knew what they were doing before the primary
Didn't the state officials bascially throw away this year's primary in hopes of getting a leg up on the next one? If they are forced to do a re-do they may lose whatever advantage they gained by this power play.

6. As well they should be.
There should be a better reason for throwing out 1.75 million votes than Howard Dean's frail little ego.

It's about rules. Why shouldn't Florida and Hillary have to lie in the bed they made?

20. The dispute has nothing to do...
...with Hillary or the voters of FL. It is a dispute between the FDP and the DNC. It is reprehensible that Dean would use average FL Democrats as bargaining chips.

48 other non rogue states.

Who the hell do you people think you are? You are not more important than all of the other people in all of the other states that played by the rules.

29. Oh, the drama!
Floridians voted as did the other states (with the notable exception of MI where the candidates weren't on the ballot). But you are apparently in favor of disenfranchising 1.75 Floridian Democrats who voted in good faith.

But, hey, when President McCain is sworn in...you can console yourself with the fact that you "showed them stuck-up Florida Dems." You can chant that on your way to the Halliburton Camps. Won't that be fun?!

33. There was no "good faith"
whatsoever involved in any Floridian's vote.

They were each and everyone advised - well in advance - that their votes

WOULD NOT COUNT!

8. Hopefully Al Sharpton will get enough signatures to sue the DNC if it attempts to seat Florida
More Republicans voted in Florida than Democrats, clear evidence that most Democrats did not go to the polls because they were told that no delegates would be awarded. Hillary should not be rewarded for her deviousness.

I am still hopeful that Michigan will have a re-vote.

19. The big turnout was due to a supposed tax relief referendum- not due to the primary.
Unfortunately, most people didn't actually take the time to read the tax bill (curtesy of Gov. Crist) which offers no tax relief to homeowners except those who want to sell their homes and buy another one (which in this market is almost impossible).

Once and for all- the turnout was not because of Democrats or the primary- please remind people of this when they (the Florida Dems. most of whom are working for Clinton) spin it another way.

25. Thank you. It's also not the fault of the FL Voters- we were disenfranchised by our local party
who didn't even attempt to object or come up with an alternative once it was clear that the FL GOP legislature was going to move the date against the DNC (and GOP) rules. Something could have been worked out- Dean even offered to come up with a way for the Florida delegates to be seated and, back then, a caucus or a second primary or a mail in vote could have been funded and planned for. But, the FL Dems (Nelson, Thurmon, Wasserman Schultz, Meek, etc.) decided to gamble knowing that she's win on name recognition and that it wouldn't matter anyway since Clinton would be in by now, or if it did, Dean and the DNC would eventually give in and not leave Florida out.

It's not Dean's fault or the fault of the national DNC. It's not the fault of the voters of Florida. fault. Frankly, it's not even the GOP's fault- they did and voted in their own best interest. It's the fault of the Florida Democratic party who decided to break the rules.

13. I'm not entirely sure how they will affect anything.
Sure, they're elected officials, but it's my understanding that the call goes to the Florida Democratic Party and that possibly there might be a necessary change to Florida state law for a mail-in ballot, which would occur in the the Florida Lege.

It seems to me like this is mostly a statement but will it have any real impact?

15. That's what we get for letting 4 year olds run the Florida delegation
If they really cared about the will of the people of their state they would be willing to hold another election, and allow both candidates to campaign so the voters could get to know them both equally well.

16. How long have FL and MI been meeting together?
Dean not there, candidates not invited...but it says this is not the first meeting. Did they organize the whole fiasco in secret meetings?

"The Florida and Michigan Democratic congressional delegations will meet together behind closed doors this evening to discuss their respective convention delegate situations.

Rep. Alcee Hastings has organized the confab. He says that it is not the first such gathering, but that the situation "became more complicated after yesterday," and this meeting has been called in reaction to the fact that the race continues. There were those who had hoped that things would be decided so that this issue could be glossed over, he says, but the results from Ohio and Texas "muddied the water."

Hastings, a Clinton supporter, says that the meeting is not expected to result in a definitive decision, but is needed to make sure everyone understands the state of play, both politically and procedurally.

He dismissed the notion that the GOP-controlled Florida legislation would allow Dems a "do-over," and regards the comments attributed today to Gov. Crist with skepticism. Hastings says the cost of such a re-do would be between $18 million and 20 million. He says that senators from the two states are invited. There will be no reps from the Obama or Clinton campaigns, nor will Howard Dean be there."

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/03/05/734454.aspx

Obama does not want the redo, neither does Hillary...and Dean says they must give their consent.
