NO ONE has been luckier in this country than the black man! He gets everything! I thought the American Indian was lucky, but really he doesn't hold a candle to the black man!

It's unfair because America has for so many decades been yearning for a black man to come along so they can vote for him to be president. It's just like being chocolate in that carton of Neapolitan ice cream--everyone knows the kids will go for that flavor first!!!

I mean, how DARE he be black and run for president?!? Didn't someone tell him this was the year for a white woman to be elected? She gets to go first! The black man has gotten so much of the good stuff already, that lucky guy, so he should wait his turn. His time will come. But not just yet. The white people will let him know when it's his time. WAIT!

To me, Ferraro's comment implied that Obama is in some way not as talented, or intelligent, or a good candidate, and that he's getting all this attention just because he's black. He seems to me to be very talented, AND he's black.

14. I see it differently.....

If anything I (also a black woman) was slow to warm up to Barack. Polls suggest a lot of "us" were. I didn't feel he had a chance, so I didn't pay a lot of attention to him. Remember when the black commentators were arguing over whether he was "Black" enough?...whatever that means.

If anything blacks were late to the Obama train. It wasn't until he started winning that I took a second look at him and liked what I saw. Here was a man who spoke of what we as Dems had been missing for all these Bush years. He was going to restore ethics, integrity, truth and justice. Mere catch-phrases for well thought out policies and plans.

Going into the Potomac Primaries I was still torn over who to vote for. Obama was new and had an exciting and fresh outlook on what government could be and how we could be better citizens. Hillary was running on her experience as a first lady. I ultimately went with a dream....foolish? maybe. But Hillary's tactics as of late have not made me regret my last minute decision one bit.

So, you may want to denigrate our entire race, but I realize that Blacks are not a homogeneous monolith and all of us came to be where we are in our decisions via our own paths....and are not simply looking for a handout from the Obama Administration.

I don't get this line I've heard about how he's "running up the score" by getting black votes because he's black. As you say, many blacks did not jump on the bandwagon. So he's not really "lucky" to be getting all the black vote--he convinced many of them to vote for him, and the Clinton campaign convinced many of them to vote against her.

The other implication of Ferraro's statements is that white people are entranced or something by his blackness, which is a curious notion, to say the least. If that's truly a phenomenon, then it's an awfully recent one.

Now it may be true that his heritage is not a hindrance to his campaign, as it would have been in the past, and that may be something that some older people like Ferraro have a hard time dealing with.
