Obama: "I did not inhale!"
Or better yet, "I have never heard this type of incidenary preaching in 20 years of services with my Pastor."

Sorry, no way.

The rethugs will run this 24/7 in November.:eyes:

11. Christmas morning 2007, he compared baby Barack to baby Jesus.

Not what most Christians expect to hear -- a comparison of ANYONE to Jesus.

34. Sure. I just came back online, the story is at

the Wall Street Journal online, is about the IRS investigating churches supporting candidates, mainly Obama but covers the general pattern of more investigations.

"On Christmas morning, Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. compared presidential candidate Barack Obama's impoverished childhood to Jesus Christ's. "Barack knows what it means to be a black man living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich white people," he then trumpeted. "Hillary can never know that."

(This was from the pulpit at Trinity Church, which Obama has attended for 20 years.)

"Some of the sermons mentioned Sen. Clinton or her husband in unflattering ways. During that Christmas morning sermon, Mr. Wright declared that Hillary Clinton "ain't had to work twice as hard just to get accepted by the rich white folk who run everything or to get a passing grade when you know you are smarter than that 'C' student sitting in the White House." On Jan. 13, Mr. Wright told the Trinity congregation that some people say, "'Hillary is married to Bill and Bill been good to us.'" Mr. Wright continued, "No, he ain't!" Sen. Clinton's campaign didn't respond to requests for comment."

"Ellen Aprill, an associate dean at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles and a former adviser to the Treasury Department on matters including nonprofit tax law, says she believes those sermons are "clearly a violation. They're naming names.''

"Donald Tobin, an associate dean at Ohio State University law school, who formerly worked for the Justice Department on nonprofit tax matters, adds that nonprofits cannot make endorsements or engage in a "pattern and practice that is designed to support one candidate over another." After being read sections of the Trinity sermons by the Journal, he said, "There does seem to be a pattern of attempting to tip the scales in a way for Barack Obama. And churches shouldn't be doing that."

ALSO

The entire denomination, United Churches of Christ, is being investigated because Obama made a speech to 10,000 church members at a conference and spoke about his platform.

AND

The NEW pastor who will be replacing Wright in June gave a sermon on March 2 in which he said

"There was a non-Babylonian, a young man who heard the word of God and said, 'I have the audacity to hope!' Now the whole nation says, 'Yes, we can! Yes, we can! Yes, we can!'"

Ms. Avrill (see above) says that's an implicit endorsement, so he could be investigated, too.

All that and more at. . .

6. I kind of agree - this was a lame response. He needs to improve it...but...
Its not exactly the same as the "I didn't inhale" comment. That one was pretty much DOA with no chance for fixing as soon as it was uttered. Barack can come back and add that he has heard similar language from him, which is why he distanced himself from him back in 2006, but not this exact language. He has left the door open to add this.

21. We will see.
We are just now finding out about this....Jonathon Alter made the point, that we do not know what this guy preached over the last 20 years and if Obama was in any of those services, he will be fried for it.

The damage is done, people have made their judgements already. Obama is just reacting right now.

He wasn't hiding. These were videos he was selling.

He swears in the pulpit. I knew that six months ago.
He preaches black self-sufficiency. I knew that six months ago.
He preaches that America needs to acknowledge its racist past. I knew that six months ago.
He preaches that America needs to acknwoledge its racist present. I knew that six months ago.

Frankly, he probably broke the law in advocating Obama from the pulpit. But, I'm not sure how that is Obama's fault.

And it's not any different than what thousands of black pastors have been doing for fifty years. (How do you think Democrats ended up with 90 percent of the black vote? It's because of the churches).

39. They caught more than one, and they were SERMONS, given in a church

where it is illegal to make statements about candidates beyond some general ones, as in introducing one to
speak. Candidates have to be careful what they say in churches, too.

They were actually political speeches and sermons combined and that is the problem.

And we are ultra-sensitive to anti statements, whatever they are. I don't agree that this should be used for determining a candidate, but heaven's sake, don't lie about hearing this before. He made a boo boo on that count.

17. The brilliant thing about Obama is that he DID inhale!
And he was honest about it. He said, "well yeah, wasn't that kind of the point".

So, considering he was open and honest about this potentially inflammatory issue, do I believe him now?

Yeah. I do.

That's the benefit of being honest, something the Clintons don't seem to be able to appreciate.

27. Liars are always the most suspicious of the truth....
their abuse of truth makes them not trust any truth from anybody...

Catch-22, karma, kafka, and probably ben franklin, definitely mark twain..the message is the same...

truth is truth...no matter how distorted it is made to be, by whoever and for how long...and, in the end, the truth always comes out...

liars have to fear the truth...it always haunts them...and it can make itself evident at any time...

the clintons should know that by now...

22. he says he never heard it personally, not while he was sitting in the pew ...
which means,

a) that he has heard of it from other congregants who may have talked amongst themselves of their (and his) pastor's preachings.

b)or, that he may have been standing up in the back of the church when the sermons were given,

c) or, that his pastor has seriously indoctrinated baracka obama with his incendiary rhetoric outside the church in 1:1 meetings.

or, as Jonatha Alter told Keith Olberman, there is another pastor out there Alter has talked to, who says that there Are TAPES out there of the Reverend and his incendiary sermons. Perhaps Baracka owns a few of those tapes.

And, Baracka Obama is allowed to retain his personal spiritual guide with the man he calls like a black sheep in the family but hillary clinton is crucified time and time again for her association with people who are a whole lot less dangerous and less incendiary than the REv. Wright is.

And, has not America had enough of First Families Black Sheeps or their ties to some of their family black sheep. Look what GHWB's black sheep got us all into.

Baracka wants to have it both ways and then uses the interview to promote himself as the rod between past anger and future hope. i think that baracka obama is tied to that past anger a great deal and lots needs to be uncovered about him and his true feelings and point of view/political philosophy now. not later. now before america ends up regretting the whole bit.
