Edited on Fri Mar-14-08 08:52 PM by ThatBozGuy
Immediately said "hey his guy is a nut" run away and throw him under a bus and hide and dodge everything.

A man of principles says clearly and succinctly with single word yes or no s "this man is like family to me and I disagree with him"

Thats leadership with clarity and truth not nuance, finesse and loophole definitions of what the word is is or what the concept of fair is.

51. Obama's Church, fellow Congregants and Mission are ALL mainstream. Hillary's Prayer Cell
and Doug Coe are freaking rightwing THEOCRATS.

The members and the mission as well as the leader ALL are extreme.

That you dare mention Wright without having issue with Hillary being in this fucked up theocratic movement says volumes.

I don't have to admire every single thing about a person to admire certain aspects of him/her. Did Barack or Michelle mimic any of his statements that you found offensive?

Has Hillary Clinton ever done or said anything that you've disagreed with, or is she utterly without flaws to you?

And, you could have put that quote into context; Barack stated that he would have left that particular church IF objectionable statements had been made on an ONGOING basis. He also stated that Rev. Wright is retiring and nonactive; therefore, this is no longer an issue.

I have an aunt who is very, very conservative, especially on matters of race and religion. But you know what? I love her dearly.

Some of you are just plain strange. You think that it is acceptable to throw a long-time friend under the bus in the name of political expediency. Our friends and family are, in the end, all we've got, and we accept them and love them, warts and all.

30. The problem with the Uncle analogy
is that Uncles are luck of the draw and we make our peace with who we get for better and/or for worse. Generally, in a large city especially, people choose their own pastors because they are people who they can admire.

I believe it was over ten years. Pastor Wright married Barack and Michelle, and the Obama's have donated thousands of dollors to that church. For better or worse, it's more than a casual or fleeting association.

57. Donations to a church and who the pastor is are two unrelated things.
My parents have been trying to get their minister removed for the past two years, but continue to contribute to the good works going on in the church. And I realize that your next statement will be that Obama never tried to get him removed. That isn't the point. The point is that the tithing to the church should be an irrelevant fact, IMO.

and they're all kinda nuts. Ditto for my grandpa... and most of my aunts... and my grandma...

My Uncle Mike and my Grandpa used to tag team the more sensitive members of the family... we'd be sitting there at the dining room table and they'd be having a (staged) discussion growing in intensity until one of them would spout off something like "Hitler was right about the Jews," and hilarity would ensue. :P

but the opposite direction. Something like Bush, but more intelligent and less wise (if that is possible).

He's recently been divorced for the 6th time, turned fundie* during the last marriage and started drinking again after. Last year he won some bids to remodel a couple kitchens, but used the upfront money to pay off creditors and is now getting sued. There was a night in jail in there somewhere. I could go on and on; this is just the last two years and he's 50 something.

*Once accused my 80 year old grandmother (his mom) of supporting gays because she was wearing a multi-colored cloth belt.

No matter how they are they're still (like) family. Barack, like some others, can see the good in most people. Certainly all du'ers can relate to that. But ofcourse some, with a political agenda, would rather feign outrage.

I had an uncle who fronted a night club for some criminals (and I think eventually burned it down for them). I had an uncle go AWOL. I've had some colorful uncles.

I loved all these uncles. Seriously, I think any child would learn a lot about life if they spent one weekend a month in a bookie joint.

My great-grandmother killed her first husband. Her brother was a criminal hiding in the hills outside Naples at the time. (At least that's the family legend).

My great-grandfather may have killed his traveling partner in order to use his papers to emigrate.

48. Shit, my uncle tops his "uncle" any day of the week.
Let's just say he plead down to involuntary man slaughter and only served 4 years in FL state pen,

Now, I hadn't actually seen the man since I was about 7 years old, but when it came time for my wedding, my (dying) grandmother guilted me into inviting him and reassured me that he wouldn't come anyway because he couldn't afford to travel up from SC to PA, but would be touched by the invitation.

So I did, and then found out that my grandmother PAID FOR HIS PLANE TICKET AND HOTEL.

So there.
