Maybe I'm NAIVE, so please... ENLIGHTEN ME.
We snipe back and forth. "Your candidate is RACIST!". "YOUR candidate is SEXIST!". "Your candidate is a piece of shit because of (blah blah RW talking point blah blah)".

Any of this is helping us... how?

Ask yourself THIS... is your post going to actually CHANGE someone's mind? Is your post actually INFORMATIVE, or just DIVISIVE for the SAKE of being divisive? Is your post something that will be thrown in the possible nominee's face in the GE?

I can understand us wanting to vet these candidates so that we are prepared for what we'll need to battle in the GE. But this fucking bullshit is getting out of control. When you waste a post to say, "SEE?! Your fucking candidate is equal to Hitler/Satan/etc.!", in what way shape or form are you HELPING ANYTHING?!

A post saying something to the effect of, "Here is what candidate A or B (or a surrogate thereof) has going AGAINST them, so let's work to see how we can combat that viewpoint" or even perhaps, "I really don't think so-and-so can win in the GE because of this or that, but let's work toward addressing that problem for the eventuality that they may be OUR nominee", can be HELPFUL. CONSTRUCTIVE. "Hey, my candidate is great and your's is a piece of SHIT" = DIVISIVE. NOT HELPFUL. DESTRUCTIVE.

I guess my question is... what's the FUCKING POINT?

ENLIGHTEN ME.

(PS. I may be crashing out soon, but don't think this is a post-and-run. I'll stay up as long as I can, or respond in the morning. I'm actually interested in some CONSTRUCTIVE DISCUSSION.)

1. There is no point, other than hoping that the media will read the blogs.....
and run with the shit we pile up onto the candidates.

There is no other explanation.

It's like the primary wars. Both sides are winning battles, but we may end up losing the GE war.

It's actually sick and depraved, but I don't think enough folks have enough good sense to stop. We are all kind of addicted.....and some are paid to post, I'm sure. There's also Freeper infestation going on to kind flame the fire....not that they are required. :(

Bottomline is that we are doing this to ourselves. We could have ran a well financed organized grassroots 50 state movement to take our country back, and in the end, all we'll get is a McCain.

Truly sad.

Signed,
Partoftheproblem,

FrenchieCat

2. I guess, my next question would be...
how do we STOP it? We can't very well flood GD:P with POSITIVE threads somehow, can we? Again, not that DU is necessarily an ENORMOUS blip on the political landscape, but I fear that it is indeed a microcosm of what's going on in the national political realm. I just hope to fucking Buddha that I'm wrong about that.

4. I love that whenever I try to abbreviate General Discussion:
Primaries, it comes out as "GD with a guy sticking out his tongue to follow". It seems rather more fitting. ;)

5. Issue threads, positive threads, and threads reporting on stories on
one candidate would be good. Even if one has to take a pot shot at the opposing candidate, at least keeping it to politics of issues, not politics of personal destruction.

But unfortunately, it isn't going to stop. Everyone wants to be heard, which is why so many threads get started about the same things; folks want the headlines......and that's about where the mentality is currently, headline soundbytes, etc...

We have become everything we hated about the other side, but most cannot stop, and some don't want to stop. So what does one do? Log off? keep fighting? Rise above? These are all options, but the real choices are fewer.......in that we repeatly choose to fight. It's maddening, but thats just a description, not a solution.

I wrote basically what you wrote just a day or so ago...

6. Great post!
I guess that's what I'm trying to do in my own way somewhat... slap some people around into trying to stay positive (if that indeed isn't TOO much of an irony) and expressing my distaste for the discourse. At least a couple of people are listening. ;)
