We all know people who say messed up s*** we cant be held acountable for all who we know. Wright was his pastor not hired advisor. Clearly Barack's heritage and background means he rejects racism to whites. GET REAL HERE. To hate white people would be to hate himself so can we move on. Barack is the perfect man for unity, as he would wish unity in himself.

1. He is not known as half white.
He is self described as an African American. The first African American President, etc. Maybe he should acknowledge the white part a little bit. It sometimes looks like he is denying it and only identifying with the black part. I don't think most people even know he had a white mother because he only calls himself a black man.

2. Oh, please
Barack Obama always acknowledges the "white part" - apparently you haven't been paying attention.

But get real. In this United States of America, a person with as much black blood as Obama has (indeed, even considerably less) is considered and called black. That's how it's been for centuries. Obama didn't make the rules. This country - white people - made those rules to ensure that "mongrels" "tainted" with even "one drop" of African blood didn't slip into the wrong parts of society.

So, it's bullshit for people to all of a sudden complain about the "one drop" rule and insist that Obama walk around consistently calling himself half-white. He is, for all intents and purposes in this society that made the rules, a black man, even if his mother was white. And he has never, ever pretended otherwise. And he has never ever disowned his mother.

Shame on you.

4. Both Barack and Michelle talk about Barack's mom on the campaign trail...
I guess maybe you haven't been to any of the stump speeches OR listened to the keynote speech in 2004 which was BASED on his background and he where he talked extensively about BOTH his parents and grandparents. Maybe you don't have cable news and haven't seen the ads on TV of Barack with his white mother on TV. Maybe you just haven't paid attention at all. MAYBE this is just another pathetic attempt to smear Obama.

Do you know how race "works" in America? Are you completely oblivious?

I'm sure he's so ashamed of his white mom. Yeah I'm sure that denying his white mom is part of his political strategy. :eyes: Fucking disgusting.

8. As half white he is entiteled to as much indignation as anyone else and did say the comments hurt..

he pastor of my church, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who recently preached his last sermon and is in the process of retiring, has touched off a firestorm over the last few days. He's drawn attention as the result of some inflammatory and appalling remarks he made about our country, our politics, and my political opponents.

Let me say at the outset that I vehemently disagree and strongly condemn the statements that have been the subject of this controversy. I categorically denounce any statement that disparages our great country or serves to divide us from our allies. I also believe that words that degrade individuals have no place in our public dialogue, whether it's on the campaign stump or in the pulpit. In sum, I reject outright the statements by Rev. Wright that are at issue.

Because these particular statements by Rev. Wright are so contrary to my own life and beliefs, a number of people have legitimately raised questions about the nature of my relationship with Rev. Wright and my membership in the church. Let me therefore provide some context.

As I have written about in my books, I first joined Trinity United Church of Christ nearly twenty years ago. I knew Rev. Wright as someone who served this nation with honor as a United States Marine, as a respected biblical scholar, and as someone who taught or lectured at seminaries across the country, from Union Theological Seminary to the University of Chicago. He also led a diverse congregation that was and still is a pillar of the South Side and the entire city of Chicago. It's a congregation that does not merely preach social justice but acts it out each day, through ministries ranging from housing the homeless to reaching out to those with HIV/AIDS.

Most importantly, Rev. Wright preached the gospel of Jesus, a gospel on which I base my life. In other words, he has never been my political advisor; he's been my pastor. And the sermons I heard him preach always related to our obligation to love God and one another, to work on behalf of the poor, and to seek justice at every turn.

The statements that Rev. Wright made that are the cause of this controversy were not statements I personally heard him preach while I sat in the pews of Trinity or heard him utter in private conversation. When these statements first came to my attention, it was at the beginning of my presidential campaign. I made it clear at the time that I strongly condemned his comments. But because Rev. Wright was on the verge of retirement, and because of my strong links to the Trinity faith community, where I married my wife and where my daughters were baptized, I did not think it appropriate to leave the church.

Let me repeat what I've said earlier. All of the statements that have been the subject of controversy are ones that I vehemently condemn. They in no way reflect my attitudes and directly contradict my profound love for this country.

With Rev. Wright's retirement and the ascension of my new pastor, Rev. Otis Moss, III, Michelle and I look forward to continuing a relationship with a church that has done so much good. And while Rev. Wright's statements have pained and angered me, I believe that Americans will judge me not on the basis of what someone else said, but on the basis of who I am and what I believe in; on my values, judgment and experience to be President of the United States.

9. So then, since I was told here that I was "privleged" just by being born white...
Does that mean he is half privileged? How then does he understand what it is to be black according to those who claim that to be white is not to know that?

There are undeniable unearned privileges in being
white, male and heterosexual.

Obama has two of those three. Not bad.

Too bad he found religion though.

15. People sometimes do hate themselves
Internalized homophobia for example is VERY common. Internalized racism is also common.

I am not Obama's therapist so have no idea whether this is a factor in his psychological make-up. But it does seem possible.

18. Actually, you are the one distorting
or maybe willfully choosing to misread.

I have no doubt he loved his mother. She sounds amazing and we get that notion from him.

But Obama has a problem with this pastor stuff. Wright seems obsessed with sex and has said many hateful things in his rant.

I have always maintained that the dems have two great candidates for president. This certainly worries me about Obama. And the religiosity is always sickening to me - whosever's it is.

As with feminism women seek stronger identity when put down by men. Similar is the case for Obama but no rejection of his whit side. Here is his speech of unity at his church...

33. I Don't Think It Much Matters. You're Preaching To The Wrong People.
You need to be preaching to the ones who would actually let this affect their vote, and relate him too closely to his pastor, thereby completely ruining his electability in the fall. And there may be (we don't know yet) millions of them, so you better get started...
