Poll question: Worse wish: That Pastor Wright have a peaceful retirement or that GHWBush have a peaceful retirement
We all heard Obama say that he didn't make a big deal of distancing himself from Pastor Wright's remarks because Wright was going to retire soon, and he didn't think it would be necessary.

Bill Clinton said in his own book that he didn't pursue some matters involving GHWBush because he felt Bush deserved a peaceful retirement for all his decades of 'service' to this nation.

Which decision has hurt this nation?

1. All too easy.
:grr:

Impeach 'em, I say. No peaceful retirement for those who shred the Constitution.

6. No, preaching hate from the pulpit is not transcending racism.... well, maybe in bizarro world.

17. Not quite
He may be dead on in his assertion the country is, in effect, ruled by rich white men. However, from what I've heard of his sermons, he generalizes that assertion to whites as a whole.

What he fails to mention (again, at least from my limited knowledge of his sermons) is that racism isn't used to keep blacks, specifically, subservient to whites. Racism is used to keep poor people of all walks of life squabbling amongst themselves over non-issues (such as "race", which doesn't even exist in the biological sense of the word), rather than uniting and demanding a larger portion of the proverbial "pie".

Thus, in insinuating that all whites are living the good life at the black man's expense, the good pastor is telling a half-truth at best.

Furthermore, his sermons are littered with historical inaccuracies. Such as:

1- Erroneously referring to Jesus as "black". If we take the Biblical account of Jesus at face value, He was born to Jewish to parents in what is now modern-day Israel. That would make Jesus Semitic, rather than a man of African extraction.

2- Erroneously referring to the Romans as "Italians". "Italy" is derived from the ancient "Italic" peoples, which were conquered by the Romans in the early years of the Roman Empire. Furthermore, he made the assertion the Romans were a bunch of rich, white men living at the expense of colored people. This, as well, is not accurate, as the Romans exerted their dominance over any group of people they site their sights on, including other whites. The Roman system of slavery was, in effect, "colorblind".

This is hardly the "truth". It reeks more of an egomaniac looking to draw a crowd of admirers behind him by relying more on rhetoric than factual substance. If you want a God's honest sociological analysis of systemic racism, I'd suggest listening to Joe Fegin, rather than an ostentatious, loud-mouthed, so-called "holy man".

10. FUNDING the hate of global terror networks as was done in BCCI is 'acceptable'
but a preacher talking about race from a cynical point of view is NOT acceptable to you. That is a disturbing sense of priorities you are showing after 9-11.

8. Worse than the emergence of Bush2, a 9-11 event, and this Iraq war. NO divisiveness in that?

12. Funding global terror networks based in hate is what IranContra and BCCI are about at their core.

You don't believe fully exposing those illegal operations steeped in government corruption would have benefitted this nation as much as exposing Pastor Wright's cynical view of our nation's politics?

He's already said he'll volunteer for McCain, so the odds of someone helping Bush bothering him is slim to none.

19. It's going to be VERY hard to make hay out of this.
Wright fright pales next to Hookergate, or any other juicy scandal, because Obama just isn't scary enough for people to care about his pastor, north of the Mason Dixon line anyway. All it does is cancel out the Muslim attacks so the unintended consequence seems to be mildly beneficial.
