McAuliffe ambushing Dean?
Cross-posted at DailyKos here: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/3/15/8222/89130/817/477167

I've been concerned for a while that the Obama/Clinton contest is becoming a surrogate battle between the Dean and McAuliffe wings of the DNC. It is a battle between those that believe in the "important states" vs. "the other 40", between DLCers and DFAers, between an addiction to corporate/special interest money and those that believe that small donors in vast numbers are democracy at its most powerful.

What I read in the NYT today, makes me concerned that McAuliffe and those that he represents are trying to ambush Dean using Clinton donors.

The NetRoots helped Dean get where he is today. With the DNC coffers very low right now, he is under attack. He needs us.

Today, the NYT has run a piece about Clinton donors complaining to the DNC about how they are handling the FL delegate dispute with at least one large donor demanding his donation be returned. Behind the ambush is none other than McAuliffe:

"About 250 top fund-raisers for Mrs. Clinton met Wednesday in Washington. Terry McAuliffe, the Clinton campaign’s chairman and a former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, encouraged the donors to pick up the phone and call party leaders, as did Mrs. Clinton.

As we all know, money talks and the Clinton donors are leveraging their donations to settle this dispute in a way that can help their candidate:

Pushing to seat the Florida delegates, at least one top Clinton fund-raiser, Paul Cejas, a Miami businessman who has given the Democratic National Committee $63,500 since 2003, has demanded Democratic officials return his 2007 contribution of $28,500, which they have agreed to do....

Christopher Korge, a Florida real estate developer who is another top fund-raiser for Mrs. Clinton, held an event last year in his home that brought in about $140,000 for the national party, which was set aside in a special account for the general election battle in Florida. But he told committee officials this week that if Florida’s delegate conundrum was not settled satisfactorily he would be asking for the money back.

The Clinton/McAuliffe wing of the party would like nothing more than to see Dean removed from the DNC, and frankly I see them using the fight over the seating of Michigan and FL delegates to be part of their attempt to bring him down in an fight about whose really has the power to make the rules in the Democratic Party.

When Dean first came to the power at the DNC, the NetRoots supported him with money bombs everytime he came under attack and when he stood up for the principles so many of us progressives believe in.

I believe it is time to shower Howard with some love once again in a language even McAuliffe understands.

Show Dean we have his back: Today, the NYT has run a piece about Clinton donors complaining to the DNC about how they are handling the FL delegate dispute with at least one large donor demanding his donation be returned. Behind the ambush is none other than McAuliffe:

Post your support of Dean in the thread (and in true dkos fashion, be sure to add on .01 to any donations so Dean knows where his support is coming from.

1. McAuliffe is truly a waste of DNA .....
Bored with screwing up general elections, he's trying to bollocks up the primary.

3. He's incompetent. He ignored candidate recruitment in Ohio &we still are suffering the effects
The Democratic party took all but one of the executive branch offices in 2006, but barely made a dent in the Ohio legislature.

Ohio Dems were looking to Jerry Springer for a Senate candidate not that long ago. Jerry Springer? Contrast that with Dr. Dean's "50 state" strategy...

22. Mockery
You really come off as a fool. I had to pick between two candidates. Yours was second best.

The last pocket of Clinton resistance on this forum is hardly making me regret my decision, boor.

2. I've been saying this for a while
That's one of the big reasons I am against seating the Florida and Michigan delegations as is. At least in the case of Michigan, the governor and the state party moved up the primary specifically to help Clinton, and Clinton's picking a fight over seating Michigan and Florida began before she lagged significantly in delegates. I believe part of their agenda is to undermine Dean by pushing for these delegations to be seated. One of the reasons I feel so strongly about the Clinton/Obama fight is because of the larger struggle I believe it is a proxy for, between McAuliffe and Dean, between big money and the grassroots.

I wrote a http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/2/17/173655/694/408/457252">diary at DailyKos a while ago outlining how Obama has inherited Dean's grassroots mantle and why all Deaniacs should be on his side.

6. Dean's next on my list of donations.
He's the one who led the way for the All State Strategy and has helped immensely in electing Dems in 2006 as well as Obama's going out and campaigning with the candidates.

Of course, hilary and her ilk would like nothing better than to see Dean's DNC network fall in disgrace..but, it ain't gonna happen. My money's on Dean and Obama.

Rec'd!

10. if this is the case........
i for one hope its the truth. it is during dean's tenure that democrats have pr oven they can win elections and it is during dean's tenure that the national party has been able to provide candidates the resources they need, financial and organizational, to be competitive with the republican opposition. dean's strategy is to grow and maintain party strength all the way to the white house use the power of the white to change the perception of liberal leadership. his fifty state strategy is what the republicans have bee doing for years.
if anything i respect him more because he doesn't owe his success and loyalty to the clintons. it is my hope this entire party circles the wagons and gives royal smack down to the clinton concept of self-preservation at the expense of those not in their inner circle of sycophants.

some of you like to ordered around and don't want to think for yourself or have any input into the process. Terry McCauliff loves little compliant bots.

Howard Dean and the DNC can count on me. Thank you for posting this.

This is what Barack Obama has been talking about, not letting the lobbysist and special interest people control how we operate. It is time for the American People to take our country back!

15. The Clintonistas are so anti-grassroots
They hate the 50-State strategy. They want to keep the old status quo with a few big pocket donors and an uninvolved base. Screw them.

But, at least they won't be fortressed in the white house.

Florida is making it personal toward Dean now, and it is hurting our party.
