80. Bow down and fear the mighty Republicans!!!
We must elect Clinton because they will never dare to say something naughty or untruthful about her! When Hillary clinton runs against Republicans everything magically changes and they abstain from all of their dastardly tactics!

Edwards would have been good but too late for that.

Did I surprise you? It's not a surprise if it's out. And who disagrees that it is not out? The swiftboat issue with Kerry came out in August, which was late enough to hurt him.

97. I agree - they keep pulling Rezko to try to hurt Obama, but they don't realize it's
already hurting Clinton more than Obama - Trib already found Obama's explanation plausible and have determined no involvement at all. Also, as far as Clinton and Rezko goes, I just inform them to google "Individual H" - which has far more damaging information against Clinton than Obama.

And they care about it too.

Trust me. I was at a party with a lot of Americans tonight. ExPats like me. 90% of the people at the party were black - like most parties that I attend. Normally I put up with a lot of joshing about my support for Hillary and I'm careful not to bring politics up these days. I was once called a racist because I dared to support Hillary (about a month ago) - by a very good female friend of mine - she was that wrapped up in the idea of an Obama presidency. Tonight... they were very subdued and didn't want to talk about politics.

Ex Pats come from all walks of life.

Most of these folks were office workers or IT folks. They are my co-workers and friends.

I doubt any of them are members of DU or are intensely politically active.

But they watch the news and like to talk about issues of the day just like anyone else.

Because politics wasn't really the topic of the conversation, we ended up chatting about various celebrities and the dog fighting scandal and how cool it would be for the AA community if Queen Latifah were an out gay woman.

And other than one stray comment about Hillary looking like she had work done, there was no mention of Obama or politics in general.

You're still fighting the GOP on their 2004 turf.... EACH CAMPAIGN IS DIFFERENT....

What worked in other campaigns won't work in this one..... The reason CLINTON is losing is because she is still playing by the OLD rules.

You just don't get it.... and you WONT get it until January 20, 2009 - when you are watching Obama being sworn in.

This story rears it's ugly head again at the end of the month when Wright retires. After that it fades into obscurity where it belongs.

This is longer lasting because it is the candidate's own words and happened repeatedly.

Obama Calls for Unity
By Jeff Zeleny

PLAINFIELD, Ind. – Senator Barack Obama repudiated the “incendiary” remarks of his former minister today, imploring Americans to set aside racial divisions and heed the words that Robert F. Kennedy delivered not far from here the night the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated.

“At that moment of anguish, he said we’ve got a choice in taking the rage and bitterness and disappointment and letting it fester and dividing us further, so that we no longer see each other as Americans, but we see each other as separate and apart and at odds with each other,” Mr. Obama said. “Or we can take a different path.”
In recent months, race has taken on an increasingly more prominent role in the Democratic nominating fight between Mr. Obama and Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Earlier this week, Geraldine A. Ferraro stepped down from a fund-raising post in Mrs. Clinton’s campaign after suggesting Mr. Obama had an easier path because he is black. And on Friday evening, Mr. Obama removed his Chicago pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. from his campaign’s religious leadership team after videotapes surfaced of racially-charged comments he had made.

Here in Plainfield, an Indianapolis suburb, Mr. Obama addressed the controversy.

“I noticed over the last several weeks, the forces of division have started to raise their ugly heads again. I’m not here to cast blame or point fingers because everybody senses that there’s been this shift,” he said. “You’ve been seeing it in the reporting. You’ve been seeing it in some of the commentary of supporters on all sides. Most recently, you’ve heard some statements of my former pastor that were incendiary and that I completely reject.”
As the crowd of 3,000 people listened intently, Mr. Obama continued.

84. i remember those exact days
they tend to stand out
my grandfather was a roundhouse boss for the L&N railroad and we all (all us kids)after school would go and play around the yards
my uncle was a conductor and he would give us rides to the crossings and let us blow the whistle
the depot was segregated and the black kids had to use the outside facilities that were maintained for the rail workers and for water they had the hose.
my grandfather thought the rules stupid but had no say in them
in town there were separate water fountains and rest rooms and in the theatre all blacks sat in the balcony
i remember the signs most of all
whites only

so i hear wright and i kind of know where he is coming from
once you see where someones from you see where they want to be
i did that too and i dont think i need to fear him
or his influence on obama

go obama

Edited on Sun Mar-16-08 12:34 AM by OPERATIONMINDCRIME
First off, shame on you for even implying that.

Second of all, you are being extremely naive if you think this story is old news already. It's still very much around, people are still commenting on it constantly (blogs etc), stories on google news are being updated about it constantly, and it is still quite readily linked on many major news sites. So please, little bit of reality here, ok?

It might fizzle out after all hopefully, but as of right now it most definitely hasn't. In fact, we might only be seeing the beginning. But to take that FACT and twist it into me HOPING that to be the case? Well yeah, how bout ya take a flying fucking leap for that one pal.

And your baiting makes you look like quite a childish moron.

Thinking for a second that this story is dead makes you look deluded.

83. Putting Your Desperate Need For Attention Aside,
I hope you do recognize how foolish and naive your OP comes off as well as how wrong you are. In the coming days when you see this story is still quite alive, I think you'll look back on this thread and realize how absolutely thoughtless you were in your way too early assessment.

Anyone with even a partially working thinking center of their brain knows this story ain't done yet. Jesus, do you know nothing about politics? Are you a newbie to the landscape of it? I mean either way, to declare this dead, well, whoa...

90. Did I declare it dead,
I said it might already be out of the news cycle, meaning I could be wrong, isn't that what I said? Now I hope you improve your reading comprehension.
and if you know anything about politics like you think you do, scandals always pop up, remember when Obama's supposed stealing speeches was supposed to sink his campaign, I haven't heard much about that lately have you?

92. Jesus. If You Think The Plagiarism Thing Is Comparable To This You're More Naive Than I Thought.
Holy cow.

And you ain't fooling anybody with that 'could be wrong' crap either. You posted this thread for a reason. You were hoping it was dead and believed it to be likely enough that you posted a thread on it. The alternative was that you still considered the possibility strongly enough to find it worthy to post a thread hinting at such, even though you knew there was a possibility otherwise. Either way, you were being extremely naive, since it's obvious we haven't come close to hearing the end of this yet.

96. Wow Do You Give Yourself Pats On The Back Easily For Failures.
You've owned nothing but your stupidity and your foolish belief that your header clears you of your naivety. Pssssstttt... Guess what... It doesn't.

Only those who are extremely naive would give serious contemplation that this story will go away now and is done. Those of us who actually, like, ya know, can think and stuff, know full well the gravity of this situation and that it's nowhere near the last the we've heard of it. What you are failing to understand here, and why you come off as naive, is that REGARDLESS of your saying 'it might', it still shows that you were giving serious contemplation to the concept that maybe it had died out. Just that simple fact alone, just the fact that you considered the possibility deeply enough to post a thread posing the question with sincerity, makes you extremely politically naive and quite silly. You think the fact that you said 'it might' puts you in the clear, but it does no such thing. You posted a thread with genuine sincerity posing the question that this might be out of the news cycle. That means you had a hunch, or inkling, inside of you that it justtttttt might be. Well guess what pal: That's naive to think. That's a fact. No matter how much you want to act like a baiting child and pat yourself on the back for your failures of logic and your blind naivety, that fact still stands.

No, this story isn't dying out. Not yet anyway. It will likely be part of this all for quite some time. To think there's a serious chance (or you wouldn't have posted the OP) that this is near the last we'll hear of it, is naive on its face and quite silly to anyone who knows politics at all.

I'm off to bed, so the fun will have to wait for tomorrow. In the meantime, feel free to post another "I have to pat myself on the back to convince myself I'm cool and try and get more attention cause I'm oh so lonely if only I can keep baiting I can get someone to talk to me yayyyyyyy i'm a winner! I'm a winner! I swear!" childish type reply since I know you don't have much, and I don't want to take that away from you. So go ahead! Get to it! Go tell yourself again how cool you are! Go tell OMC how dumb he is and how you've bested him and stuff and how you're just so cool and special and cool and smart and cool and how he's just a big ole poopy head but you're just so cool and stuff... Can't wait to read it in the morning!!! For now, I'm goin to bed laughin my ass off at ya though, for what it's worth.

God you're silly...

85. Washington Times has picked it up too.
Obama's call to action

THE WASHINGTON TIMES EDITORIAL

<snip>

In Mr. Obama's "movement for change" there should be no room for racism, real or perceived. His "movement for change" should include repudiating intolerance and bigotry, even if it comes from someone you've called pastor, friend and spiritual leader for 20 years. Mr. Wright's "preaching" is not only political but hateful and runs the risk of further dividing a country Mr. Obama insists on unifying. If, " transcends race" as FOX News analyst Fred Barnes put it last week, not only does he have a duty but a responsibility — as a candidate, leader, American — to reject the man and his message.

Edited on Sun Mar-16-08 01:03 AM by sueragingroz
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/15/us/politics/15wright.html?bl&ex=1205726400&en=5a8aba53a3148fae&ei=5087%0A

In the interview last spring, Mr. Wright expressed frustration at the breach in relationship with Mr. Obama, saying the candidate had already privately said that he might need to distance himself from his pastor. But perhaps the two could repair things, said Mr. Wright, pointing out that Mr. Obama’s opponent, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, had faced worse.

“At least there are no semen stains on any dresses,” Mr. Wright said, one of several digs he has taken at the Clintons.

“That kind of frankness scares people in the campaign,” he added.

I just saw that this was referred to above.. but the above passage is worth calling out.
