Obama's pastor attacks Clinton for being white
When-oh-when are these attacks going to STOP?

Barack Obama's claim to be the candidate of racial unity was challenged yesterday by a video of his pastor and spiritual mentor condemning Hillary Clinton for being white.

Footage of the Rev Jeremiah Wright's fiery sermons dominated television network coverage after tapes were acquired from the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, where Mr Obama has worshipped for 20 years.

In his February 10 address Mr Wright said: "Hillary was not a black boy raised in a single-parent home. Barack was.

"Barack knows what it means to be a black man living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich white people. Hillary can never know that. Hillary ain't never been called a n*****."

In another sermon he took aim at former president Bill Clinton's supposedly good relationship with the black community.

"Hillary is married to Bill, and Bill has been good to us. No he ain't! Bill did us, just like he did Monica Lewinsky. He was riding dirty," the clergyman boomed.

By making a political endorsement from the pulpit, Mr Wright's outbursts may attract the attention of the Inland Revenue Service for contravening the church's tax-exempt charitable status.

"Barack Obama's claim to be the candidate of racial unity was challenged yesterday by a video of his pastor..."

The Pastor is not Obama. I know it's tricky, but they're separate people.

I can go into further detail if necessary.

Rev. Wright insinuated no such thing about Natalee Holloway. Granted, he could have left the "she went to Aruba to live it up" part, but his point was that crimes against women of color are not given the kind of intense attention that those against pretty white women are. And you know what? He's right.

Obama's pastor disses Natalee Holloway
'White girl goes off and gives it up' in Aruba, preacher pal says

Natalee Holloway

Sen. Barack Obama's longtime friend and spiritual adviser trashed the memory of a missing and presumed dead American teenage girl, according to church publications reviewed by WND.

Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the controversial minister of Obama's church in Chicago, cited the case of Natalee Holloway's disappearance in Aruba in complaining about what he sees as the media's bias in covering white victims of crime over black victims.

"Black women are being raped daily in Darfur, Sudan, in the Congo and in Sub-Saharan Africa. That doesn't make news," Wright said in the August 2005 edition of Trumpet Magazine, a publication of his Trinity United Church of Christ.

But, "One 18-year-old white girl from Alabama gets drunk on a graduation trip to Aruba, goes off and 'gives it up' while in a foreign country, and that stays in the news for months!" he added. "Maybe I am missing something!"

(Story continues below)

The circumstances involving the coed's disappearance remain unclear, and the case remains unsolved. Holloway left Mountain Brook, Ala., on a May 2005 senior class trip to Aruba.

Barack Obama

Attempts to reach her family for comment were unsuccessful. But her mother, Beth Holloway, has written a book, "Loving Natalee," in which she reveals her daughter named Jesus Christ as one of the most influential people in her life in a trove of writings she found in her bedroom.

In the same 2005 church publication, Wright suggested "white America" had the 9/11 attacks coming, while calling for business "divestment from Israel," which he refers to as a "racist" state along with America.

"In the 21st century, white America got a wake-up call after 9/11/01," he wrote on page 7. "White America and the Western world came to realize that people of color had not gone away, faded into the woodwork or just 'disappeared,' as the Great White West kept on its merry way of ignoring Black concerns."

Obama says he is "proud" of Wright and values their 20-year friendship.

Though Wright has nurtured Obama's political career as a close adviser and mentor, the Democrat presidential hopeful says they don't agree on everything. Wright married Obama and baptized his daughters.

Louis Farrakhan

In the November/December 2007 issue of Trumpet, Wright sang the praises of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, who has described whites as "blue-eyed devils" and Jews as "bloodsuckers."

"He brings a perspective that is helpful and honest," Wright said. "Minister Farrakhan will be remembered as one of the 20th and 21st century giants of the African-American religious experience."

Wright then held Farrakhan up as a pillar of "integrity."

"His integrity and honesty have secured him a place in history as one of the nation's most powerful critics," he continued. "His love for Africa and African-American people has made him an unforgettable force, a catalyst for change and a religious leader who is sincere about his faith and his purpose."

Farrakhan's photo is splashed across the cover of the church magazine, which gushes "the Minister truly epitomized greatness."

On Nov. 2, 2007, Wright presented Farrakhan with a "lifetime achievement" award during a Trumpet gala held at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. The tribute included a three-and-a-half minute video lionizing "the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan."

"For his commitment to truth, education and leadership, we honor Minister Louis Farrakhan with the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award," the video announces.

Last week, Obama distanced himself from Farrakhan, but did not distance himself from Wright or disavow his praise for Farrakhan.

78. you are looking for ways in which to take offense. You won't
have any trouble finding what you want.

Rev.Wright's words did NOT say she deserved to get raped and murdered. You have a reason to be troubled by his words, but your credibility is zip when you put YOUR words into his mouth.

If you are not aware of the fact that the media reports the incidents of well to do, white, attractive women (and men) in a much different way than they do Black citizens who are no less in need of the public attention, I don't know what cave you live in.

Princess Di- JFK jr- Natalie- Anna Nichole- Stacey Peterson- Jessica Lynch- Elizabeth Smart- Jon Benet Ramsey- Chandra Levy- The list is too long and complex to begin to name- Each of these people became media GODS- and we were subjected to hearing their names and stories over and over again for how long?
Can you name me any people of color who have been given such coverage? It happens for the negative cases- Michael Vick, Barry Bonds, Michael Jackson, OJ- but how about Shoshana Johnson? or young Charles Evans? what about countless others who's names we don't know- who's stories are not even in the news, except as an aside?

Please do some soul-searching. You claim it is the "RW smear" machine that Obama won't survive. Are you being honest with yourself? Are you holding Rev. Wright against Obama yourself?

peace~

Rev. Wright is a problem. Besides doing the Jesus thing, his feels the need to point out the white vs black problem with this country. If you think about it, you might be able to understand why the black community is pissed off. Remember the months long media circus surrounding this one girl and how missing, dead, raped AA girls are completely invisible to the media, this country. That was the message. The girls in his community get called names by white media (don imus) and are degraded all the time.

If you have information of that nature, you really should let law enforcement know about it.

It's correct to say that the media frenzy over the case had to do with the victim being white and attractive, but implying that she was running around the island hosting gangbangs is over the top, especially for a man who claims to be a pastor.

Edited on Sun Mar-16-08 05:02 PM by TriMetFan
you make it sound like she was 13 to 15 yrs old. It also sounds to me like she was some dumb young women, and that is far from the truth. Even though his parents divorced when he was 2 his mom got remarried. When his mother left him in Hawaii to be raised by his grandparents, that was his choice right? Obama was in high school by that time. Also those grandparents were white. So why does Obama supporters always make it sound like he was raised in the ghetto? The man was raised in a middle class white home. I think every one has forgotten that Obama is part white. I even think that he has forgot that fact too. If Obama is willing to listen to a friend that is also his preacher say controversial things like "G-- damned America and United white American" again I say Obama is willing to toss his white side under the bus. just my .2

93. Um, she WAS a teenager. Who "makes it sound like she was 13 to 15"? That's ridiculous.
She was pregnant with him when she was 18 and had him when she was nineTEEN. Obama says in almost all his speeches he was raised by his mother AND grandparents. His WHITE mother. His WHITE grandparents. WHO made it sound like he was raised in the ghetto? Where do you GET this stuff??? He was a BLACK kid raised by WHITE people. That gave him confused feelings when he was growing up and he talks about this in his book. How do you think people looked at his family back then when prejudice was way more blatant than it is now??? You obviously have never listened to any of his speeches or you'd know everything you just said is false.

95. Back in the 60's to have is kid at 18 to 19 as
a women was not a big deal. As a matter of fact when my mom had me she was 24 (1962) and that was thought as being old to have your first child. I'm also part black and I didn't grow up having "confused" feelings about who I was. So if he was having "confused feeling" as an adult, then he was never able to except his white side. Again just my .2.
Also I was for Obama from the beginning, so I have listened to his speeches. Obama is a Great speaker. I have always thought the man sounded little like JFK mixed with MLK. So don't try to tell me that I have never listened to him. I even have given Obama money, but I'm not willing to run with blinders on like others do. I will say this much, that at this time I do support Hillary, but if Obama is our nominee I will vote for him holding my nose and with my eyes closed and praying to my keeper that Obama doesn't screw up our Nation even more, because I sure don't want another repuke in the White House.

If you DID listen to his speeches, you didn't pay attention. He did NOT throw his white mother/grandparents under the bus.

103. So his father left.
My parents were divorced by the time I was 4. Also my mom remarried when I was 10. Obama also had a stepfather for some time. By the time Obama was ready to go to high school that is when he moved in with his grandparents and why because he didn't want to go with his mom back to Asia. Obama's sister Maya even talks about this. And yes I do think Obama has tossed his white side under the bus. Why because he is willing to have a friend that was is his preacher and also served on the African American Religious Leadership Committee for Obama that has made it sound like All Whites are evil. Again just my .2.

105. Did you become a leading presidential candidate? No? Was your father
Black? Was your mother white? Was your step-father black? Did you have an identity crisis growing up because of circumstances similar to Obama's? Because if not, nothing you said is comparable. And I see nothing wrong with Obama going to his church while still loving and respecting the white side of his family. He ALWAYS talks about his family.

108. No my father is not black but he is white.............
mother is black and stepfather is white. But like I said I didn't have a identity crisis growing up because I knew who I was and I'm damn proud of who I'm. I'm not the one making excuses for the way I was raised. And I also don't go to a Church were they speak about "White American" being at fault for everything wrong with America. So again I still think he has thrown his white side under the bus, because he is willing to go to that type of Church.

Does she have experience being black that she hasn't mentioned? If someone says I don't know what its like to be a black man am I being condemened for being a white woman or just being told I don't have that experience?

FYI Obama's pastor is not Rev. Wright, I believe it is Rev. Moss of the Trinity UCC. Wright retired already.

Also note the UCC is defending the statements of Rev. Wright, and it is not for Obama as a politician to interfere in the policies of religious discipline or any of the decisions by the United Church of Christ, it is called "separation between church and state".

29. What an utter mischaracterization of that quote.
He wasn't "condemning" Hillary for being white. Give me a f'in break.

Why don't you tell me exactly what you disagree with in this quote:

"Barack knows what it means to be a black man living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich white people. Hillary can never know that. Hillary ain't never been called a n*****."

Does it need to be pointed out, otherwise no one could possibly figure that out?

Edited on Sun Mar-16-08 02:18 PM by casus belli
I have a co-worker who supports Hillary who told me that she couldn't vote for Obama with a viable woman candidate because no male can understand the unique challenges faced by women in society. She doesn't feel that her interests would best be served by a male candidate. I don't really have a counterpoint to that, except to say, if being able to identify with the situation of every person you represent in politics is a requirement for running, well then we're always going to be falling short. But, I do think that it's our nature to go with a candidate who we identify with, and who has a message that speaks to us. Because of that, I can't really fault her for her choice.

Most Americans go to public schools, and state colleges --- if they are lucky.

99. Hello - Barack and Michelle went to Ivy League schools,
How can they say they are not privledged?

Most kids go to state Universities...black kids, white kids, brown kids, purple kids, etc. And those are the lucky ones, because there are lots of families - of all races and religions - that cannot even afford to send their kids to any higher education.

When someone reads racism into a comment that was not racist at all - I have to wonder what causes them to do so. Why would they be so overly sensitive?

True or not true is not really the issue, when a man of the cloth bellows out in such a hateful rhetorical manner. The he turns around and sells the recording of his hate rant?

Something is terribly wrong with the visuals of a POTUS supporting this hate.

On the one hand they want to support their fellow white person in decrying "reverse racism", but on the other hand they don't want to *appear* to not support Obama. So instead, they'll just be very "serious" and "troubled" about the entire made-up "issue".
