What Gary Hart Said About Jesse Jackson in 1987 to Hunter S. Thomspon....
From Generation of Swine "Gary Hart Talks About Politics" by Hunter S. Thompson

Dr. Gonzo asks Hart to handicap the 1987 Democratic primary. After Thompson (lyingly) assures him that this is off the record Hart says among other things

GH: What will happen is, between Iowa and New Hampshire the race will narrow from six or seven to two or three. Not including Jesse. You've got to treat Jesse separately. Two or three white guys. They'll go to the South and one of them will dominate down there and go forward and win the nomination.

You've got to treat Jesse separately.

Just two white guys, liberal Dems bullshitting about politics in the late 1980s all by their lonesome. At about the same time, my family practice resident and faculty friends and I in Galveston were excited about the Jackson campaign. Guess we would have known better if we had been flies on the wall of that room.

I present this to remind some people at DU that Ferraro is not an anomaly. She is a product of a period of American history that we will all be happy to see gone and forgotten, but which is still in our midst, because it has colored the minds of our political friends as well as our enemies. Maybe instead of using the episode to score political points, we should sit down and use the episode to talk about the differences between her and Hart's generation and the ones that came later.

I deliberately did not do a Google to see if Hart has supported either Dem. I hope he is keeping neutral like sensible Democrats.

2. I believe that Hart has come out strongly in support of Obama.
If I'm mistaken, someone will no doubt correct me momentarily.

6. I do realize that about Ferraro.
I thought "How could anyone think like that?" Then I remembered what decade she was from.

9. She got vilified for her comment. Everyone is attempting to give Wright a pass.
Soon we will hear Bama doing a rendition of Hart's "Let's go home."
