It's the Superdelegates job to choose the best candidate...
Edited on Mon Mar-17-08 01:24 PM by rateyes
...which is why they all should vote for John Edwards or Joe Biden or Chris Dodd or Dennis Kucinich.

Or, better yet, Al Gore.

16. Man, I would fall down on my knees and thank God
if Biden could swoop in and take this thing. I like Obama, but Biden's a much better candidate with a better resume.

6. We shouldn't even have primaries.
These things should be decided in smoke filled rooms, like God intended.

11. Yup. If neither can reach 2025 without super-delegates...
...then to hell with them. Throw it open to nominations from the floor.

17. Look it's nice to dream
but we already have two candidates whose supporters are at each others throats. No one is going to tick them all off by pulling a name out of a hat.

Al Gore is not going to come wooshing in with a cape and save us all. He is much too busy fighting ManBearPig.

19. You make a good point: if the superdelegates are not connected to the pledged
Why should they even restrict their choices to the nominees currently holding pledged delegate leads? If there is no connection, then they should have a completely open field.

20. Technically, they do have an open field.
Usually, it's pointless since usually one candidate has the delegates to get the nomination without their vote.

25. I was a Gore delegate in 2000 (only through state convention, not at national)
I'm only an alternate to our district/state conventions at the moment and have no intention of going on to national. My post was in no way disrespectful to Gore.

24. The only problem with this is that there are less than 800 Superdelegates
Even though neither candidate will have 2024 pledged delegates after the primaries are over, they will still both have roughly twice as many pledged delegates as there are superdelegates. At the convention there will probably be about 1700 or so Obama fanatics, 1550 or so Clinton fanatics, and then 795 or so superdelegates. Many of those superdelegates are going to be strong supporters are either Obama or Clinton, and at least with the elected superdelegates they will be somewhat hesitant to break away from their constituents. Whatever resolve a bloc of superdelegates might have behind supporting Gore, Edwards, Biden, Kucinich.....take your pick, it will not be nearly as strong as the resolve behind the Obama or Clinton supporters for their candidates. And despite the bad blood, I would be surprised if Obama or Clinton supporters would be more willing to agree to some superdelegate backed candidate as opposed to just joining the other candidate's supporters.
