Who watched several hundred hrs of sermons to find 1 1/2 min of scandel...
Ok follow me here... oh and put on your tin foil hats folks...:tinfoilhat:

Wright was a paster for 30 years... I know he wasn't the only paster at the church. Churches generally have several sermons a week. So for the sake of my argument... we can assume that he did one hour of sermons a week. 52 weeks a year for 30 years is 1560 sermons... but we can only assume that whoever scoured the video's did so out of the last 7 years... since we know they have the clip from right after 911. So 52 weeks times 7 years is 364 hours of recorded church. Who was paid to sit watch ALL of this footage. A 40 hour work week... that would be 9 weeks assuming no breaks or VHS fumbling or editing or recording words time. A MONUMENTAL task.

One would assume that it is a GOP researched and created scandal since Faux News broke the story(I think)... but... wait... Obama is on the way to the nomination... Why would they do this? Why not wait till Obama is in the GE race? Wouldn't this be more damaging in late October???

I have been struggling to figure this out. Then it came to me :tinfoilhat: only one person benefits from this course of action... Hillary... In my opinion she probably paid a staffer to sit through all these sermans... the staffer wrote down the controversial comments and their place on their prospective tape. Then they sent this info over too... Hannity... Orielly.

Why would Hillary release it now?

Momentum... Obama has been having a roof two weeks.. The media has been reporting non-stop about NAFTA-Gate, Rezko trial, Texas-Ohio loses... and momentum had been on Hillary's side. But in the last week it was shifting back to Obama more SD endorsements, Mississippi/Wyoming wins, Ferrarro-gate... with Penn. coming up this is the perfect time to get the conversation off of Obama winning and back onto him being this scary unknown uppity black man.

I am just wondering if anyone here agrees with me. Clinton supporters I already know what you think about this so... spare me the flaming.

6. Fox/Hannity/Freepdom has been working on this story for over a year now--
they even had Wright on Hannity's show LAST March, 2007, to start spreading the smear-by-association. It's hard to say if the Clintons are involved, but with Fox and other RW radio doing all her heavy lifting, she doesn't have to lift a finger. It's very clear, though, that the GOP is terrified of Obama and is desperate to take him down--they and Hillary share the same goal. I actually sat through a part of Laura Ingraham's show today where her guest tried to make associations between (get this): Obama and Spitzer! Obama and Spitzer are two peas in a pod, did you know that? More smear by association--even though HILLARY is from NY. By the way, the guest (Fred Siegal) and Laura agreed that Hillary is a MUCH better, stronger candidate for the Dems and that the Dems should just bury Obama and forget him. WHO ARE THEY AFRAID OF???

8. I think it is possible
why else would this story suddenly emerge or reemerge, considering that it is pretty much a non story anyway. Perhaps after the Ferraro thing, they realized that people weren't going to be too keen on overtly racist remarks, but realized that most white people (and I am a white, middle aged woman) would be really offended by a black person saying things that make whites uncomfortable (even if there is a grain of truth in all that was said). Since Barack Obama didn't say anything himself, they went after someone associated with him. btw, I think that Obama's attendance at TUCC is a nonissue. I think the attention it is getting is silly.

10. but what helps Hillary also helps the GOP
I could believe that they'd be helping to sink Obama if they can, because they'd rather run against her. Obama, with his crowds, youth support, fund-raising ability--no, they don't want to run against him.

11. The Trinity Church webstore still lists 6 years of Wright's sermons for sale, in
chronological order, back to Feb 3 2002. Wright preached his last sermon on Feb 10 2008. But evidently there were many Sundays when guest speakers filled in for Wright.

You don't have to do quite as much speculating, except about sermons that may have "sold out" due to the media demand (to get the best possible picture quality in copycatting Sean Hannity's cherry-picking).

See the stock of sermons for sale ($15/DVD, $10/CD apiece) at http://www.tucc.org/store/trumpet_order.cfm?action=catbrowse&catid=40

12. I'm sorry to say this, but I think that it was probably Hillary's campaign.
I've reached the same conclusion. The McCain campaign would wait to release this until after Obama gets the nomination. It helps Hillary's campaign right now.

13. No. Clinton can't spare the resources. Fox's pockets are DEEP.
Fox has plenty of staffers to review footage and look for controversial statements. I don't think Clinton even has what you would call a newsroom. Plus she's got a fierce campaign going, and has had trouble with finances.

So why did Fox release this now? To keep the primary war going. Many of us will assume the attacks are coming from Clinton, which will have the effect of keeping us divided. Plus Hillary still has a shot at the nomination, IF these things do a lot of damage. I think the timing in that respect is perfect, showing more malice aforethought than I can give even the Clinton campaign credit for.

15. Barack brought all this up in a slick move
to get it out while there were no primary contests to worry about. He was hoping it would all blow over before the next state contest lol. Hillary would have brought it up months ago just after Barack race bated his way through South Carolina. You'd have to be dumb as a chicken coup to think Hillary had anything to do with this. Anyway Barack closely associated with a racist preacher for 20 years, that's his doing.

16. no, the whole GOP benefits
Limbaugh has been hoping that the primary keeps going. McCain is like the team that swept its opponent and is hoping that whoever he plays in the finals has played a seven game series. "Let them wear themselves out in the semi-finals while we rest." That is their hope/strategy. They want to keep Democrats fighting with each other and want to stir the pot to make the fighting as vicious as possible so that we don't unite behind our nominee. It's nice of Hillary to help them, isn't it though?

20. Your math is questionable, and the assumption that only 1 person did it is flawed
I assume the guy takes a week of now and then. 3 sermons a week 52 weeks a year is unreasonable. I would cut your 364 hours down to something like 200-225

There are also people like.. oh.... interns.... who get paid little or nothing to do crap like this.

So if you assume my 225 hours is close then you can take 5 interns and have them knock this out in a week. (less if they put in 10-12 hour days)

The timing is another question. It seems strange that it came out now. As far as I can tell it is already off the MSM. This story did not have the impact that many posters here seemed to think it would. (reference all the Clinton people saying Obama needed to drop out.. etc)

32. well it basically came out on a Friday
of a week of big news everywhere (Spitzer, economy, etc.)

Obama seemed ready to do interviews, had a statement, etc.

Also notice the same day there was the 90-minute Rezko interview given to the Sun-Times.

Crazy like a fox???

21. This is called 'opposition research', both sides do it, both fund it well.

And the MSM will, clearly, gleefully parrot any lie they hear just so long as it has a K-Street think-tank address attached to it.

They must think we're fucking stupid. Scratch that; I know they do.

Edited on Mon Mar-17-08 02:54 PM by NCevilDUer
Much more efficient to have 10 staffers each watch 36 hours (more or less) and get it over with in less than a single work week.

EDIT: Besides, that way you reduce the risk of being drawn to the dark side by hundreds of hours of evil sermonizing.

Obama's Pastor: God Damn America, U.S. to Blame for 9/11
Obama's Pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Has a History of What Even Obama's Campaign Aides Say Is 'Inflammatory Rhetoric'

An ABC News review of dozens of Rev. Wright's sermons, offered for sale by the church, found repeated denunciations of the U.S. based on what he described as his reading of the Gospels and the treatment of black Americans.

"The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people," he said in a 2003 sermon. "God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme."

In addition to damning America, he told his congregation on the Sunday after Sept. 11, 2001 that the United States had brought on al Qaeda's attacks because of its own terrorism.

Pastor Jeremiah Wright has been an entry on Wiki since 2006.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremiah_Wright
"The government lied about inventing the HIV virus as a means of genocide against people of color. The government lied."

Sen. Obama said, "I don't think my church is actually particularly controversial."
