What will happen when...er...IF McCain has broken campaign finance laws?
From John at AMERICAblog:

McCain has to file his February FEC report this week -- by March 20th. We'll see if McCain is breaking the campaign finance laws. If he's busted the spending cap -- meaning he spent over $54 million -- it's a crime.

Seriously. I want to know.
This is a felony, isn't it? Means big whopping fines, as well as a 'time-out' at what will probably be a Club Fed...

And can you just IMAGINE the uproar if Bush deciders to 'pardon' McCain on this one, or 'commute' his sentence...:nuke:

:popcorn::rofl:

1. There was an analysis on I think NPR one day
essentially I think they said - probably nothing will happen.
Most likely the vacancies on the FEC will not be filled before a new president is sworn in. I think as of right now there are two opinions out there as to whether McCain will violate the law - McCain's and the Dems. I know, I know. McCain's argument is really lame but there is no referee as it were right now to toss in an opinion. So as of now there is really nothing to stop him.
Which will leave the decision up to the next president. A President McCain will no doubt appoint FEC members who will not pursue this question.
What about a Dem president? Will he or she pursue a vanquished McCain? The story I listened to did not give an answer.
One thing is for sure. Dems better make sure that the public knows that McCain is in violation of the law during the election.

2. Same thing that always happens to Republicans: after he wins the election, the FEC will slap...
...his hand. Really hard! Honest!
