I Canvassed A Targeted Group Of Independent Voters In PA Today & Found Two Kinds Of People...
People who were leaning democratic that liked Obama (I re-registerred quite a few of them as democrats) and people who were leaning republican that absolutely hated Hillary. I know the 100 or so houses I visited is a very small sample size, but I was a little surprised I didn't talk to even one person who liked Hillary.

8. Lancaster County, South Central PA...
Edited on Mon Mar-17-08 09:41 PM by JimGinPA
One of the reddest counties in the state. I think the democrats will split fairly evenly (maybe a slight edge to Obama) but the new voters & indepedents that are going democrat are trending strongly Obama.

Great! Thank you... I do feel better.

I'm thinking... those who weren't going to vote for him, will grasp any excuse not to do so.

they absolutely despise her, and most see her as an opportunist who will do or say anything to get elected. And if the polls are to be believed, people have a problem with her "honesty", or lack thereof.

11. It's heartwarming to learn that
Americans..the ones you two talked to, anyway, do not buy into hilary's wheelin' and dealin' as fast as her head can spin.

There's a couple of dyed in the wool feminists around here that are spinning for hilary no matter what she does.

really strong Hillary supporters. If you would go to Central Pa. you'd find ONLY McBush people.

5. Yet lots of them will vote for Hillary!
In the primaries, so they feel secure they have a Democrat they can beat in the general election!

Rush called for it on right wing radio, and there's been a flood of Repukes voting for Hillary in Democratic primaries so they can have the satisfaction of voting against her in general election. A Republican victory over Hillary would be the happiest day of their life, whatever they may think about McCain.

28. Speaking of Florida, I bet you're right--
I had a friend who just got back from Florida on vacation and she said the people she spent time with kept saying Obama was a Muslim!! She said it just made her laugh because they were so serious about it! ...and my friend is a Republican! She actually favors Obama over McCain. Her husband won't let me get a word in edgewise about Hillary except that I tell him that if Obama doesn't win I will still vote for Hillary because I don't want anymore Republicans in the WH! Then he starts hitting me with the anti-Hillary crap again!

36. No, no... see, it's only cheating when it's Hillary's votes
Obama's votes are valid, of course.

And when Republicans vote for Obama, it's because they had an epiphany due to his mad speechifying skillz and are now on board with Democratic ideas... but when Republicans vote for Hillary, it's just to mess with our process.

I've learned these things right here on DU.

In PA, it's common to change your registration often, because local office holders are so often determined in the primary. I know MANY life-long democrats who are registered R because that's the only way to have any effect on local elections. Then you have to change your reg back to D if a significant D primary comes along. This sort of registration-switch can be mis-interpreted by outsiders as some kind of strategy by Republicans.

The people who mystify me are those who feel some kind of pride in being "independent," which in PA just means that you are cutting off your own ability to effect local elections when it counts.

What I'm wondering is whether you had any luck in moving those people who were "leaning republican" to go ahead and register D for the primary?

27. So Far I've Only Been To F&M To Register New Voters & The Independents Today...
I only had one college student register repub., but nearly every student that I met that were either already registerred or that we signed up were strong Obama supporters. None of the repub. leaners I met today re-registerred. Also, more than half of the indys I spoke to today weren't interested in voting in the primary.

32. Sounds like everyone found a way to be agreeable with you within their available attitudes
Not being a total asshole, if an Obama supporter came to my door I would say, "Yeah, good for you. Gobama... I'm sold, so don't let me take your time from other voters."

Then, having cut the encounter down to the minimum time and made another human being feel better, rather than worse, I would get back to my business.

Harmless white lie... I don't hate Obama or anything.
