I Am A Nominal Clinton Supporter And Defended Senator Obama Last Night
My mom, whom I take care of, is ninety years old and has a host of medical problems and we have a nurse come out to see her three times a week...She is the nicest and most caring person in the world as are ninety percent of the nurses I have met but she is very right wing...Sometimes I go to greet her as her car is parked in my driveway and I can hear Michael Savage playing on her radio (ugh).... I try to avoid discussing politics because I would rather build bridges to people than tear them down... But lying about (anybody) offends my sense of right and wrong...To put it colloquially, I don't like when people make shit up about people...My favorite saying is "now you're just making shit up."

The subject of Jeremiah Wright came up and she was blaming Obama for going to his church...I made two points... I said that Obama is not responsible for Wright's sentiments and African American folks have legitimate grievances...Yes, the majority of African Americans are doing ok but a substantial minority of them have been left behind... I pointed out that she as a visiting nurse sees it every day when she has to make calls to disadvantaged areas....

I think at the end of the day, African American folks want what folks of all colors everywhere want... A good job, respect, and hope for the future...

7. The Argument Goes Like This
Why should the Obama's be resentful? They lead lives that most Americans of any hue can only dream of...They are rich, attractive, and well educated....

The answer is because they see folks who look just like them suffering...

I think where Reverend Wright's ministry becomes problematic is when he focuses more on the problem of racism than the solution...

Sometimes, the simplest explanation is the correct one... Most folks want the same thing in life; a fair chance...When a person is deprived of a fair chance because of his color, religion, or physical condition he becomes angry and rightfully so...

9. Ha
Her son went to the same high school as me, about twenty years later, and got a 1,600 on his SAT! He went on a scholarship to Georgetown and now is teaching English at a prep school in Thailand...They speak on the phone and she tells me what a big Obama supporter he is , as are most young people...

12. I Just Like Hillary Better
She has been immersed in policy for thirty five years... I think she is where a plurality or majority of Americans are; a tad bit to the left on foreign policy, economic policy, and social policy...

But that doesn't mean I have to hate Obama no matter how much some of his supporters provoke me or let folks lie about him in my presence...

17. Thank you for the positive post!

I don't always agree with what you post but I very much appreciate you putting the democratic party ideals above the current primary fray. I wish many more people from both camps would do the same :hi:
