Diversity? What's in your wallet?
I do not know about the folks here at DU, but overwhelmingly, Americans are very narrow in their life experience and their understanding of other cultures, religions, how their own government works, and how their own city, town, village works.

And very often, they could care less. They chatter like parrots, that government, politicians, religions leaders, and other cultures are just "no good, all crooks, and never do anything for me."

My point in this primary season, is to say to those who lurk here in this forum, and post in a way that flames, chastises, or is superior, that until you walk in the shoes of those you have superior opinions about, your remarks are not contributions, but self serving aggrandized self promotion, hidden by a screen name, like the little man with the big booming voice who pretended to be the Wizard of Oz.

Spewing statements that reflect stereotypes are empty words if they lack the depth of knowledge. Knowledge does not come from Google, it comes from on the ground real time experience, with some time spent to cultivate the understanding.

I really have to laugh and laugh and laugh at how people are offended in such a superior way, when they qualify their remarks here by "I am entitled to my opinion, you scum bag".

Opinions will not advance our cause. Opinions not supported by understanding or experience burn and fly into the atmosphere like ash.

I have come to believe that the more superior, the more cutting, the more vitriolic a statement is, behind it I find a shallow person.

Arguments that are advanced with wisdom and understanding do not sound ugly.

My friends in England have emailed me in wonder, asking what is wrong with the Democrats?

I can only think in terms of world history and how old our own very Democracy is, comparatively.

It could be said that America (along with Canada) is just about the age of a teenager right now, as compared to Europe, and other continents.

Are we as a party and as a people, destined to be frozen in this limbo by our own lack of will, to want to be better?

But all I can think about is that those who eat up the negativity, can't possibility give it up, because that is all they know.

I don't know why the heck I think anyone will care about what I have just written here, except I have put so much thought and time into writing it, I will just go ahead and click "post message".

1. This place is just Fight Club, but with "typing"--it's verbal gymnastics, nothing more
And this isn't the real world, it's not reflective of a preponderance of the nation. This place is WAY left of center. WAY left.

It's an interesting place, with some smart people, but representative of the party? No way.

2. I absolutely agree. Somewhat. Except to say, that most of the people who live in my
community, are non thinkers as well.

You dismiss the vitriol by calling it "verbal gymnastics"..... but even the verbal kind of exercise should build mental muscle.

4. Well, when it gets too stupid, there are other places on the net to explore.
I've been looking at silent films, lately! They're amusing, and less contentious!

7. Silent films require using a part of the brain that we seldom use anymore. Sitting and
watching in silence requires thought and perception.

Good idea!

3. We are an adolescent culture.
And, if we don't kill ourselves in a fiery car crash after the prom, we may grow up to be a pretty nice adult culture.

6. I just thought about the photos of the tangled mess of a car, that is passed under the noses of
prom goers each spring.

I am afraid that reason and openness are not sexy enough to attract the "adolescent culture."

If you are right, and I suspect that you are, then there is a fiery car crash in our future.
