Anything? Any warning bells? Any Hillary supporters have any problem with this? Do these sources mean anything to you? Might this all speak to the limited validity, maybe, of the story, or, say, reveal a sort of agenda? Does it give anybody any hints of who the Republicans might possibly be terrified of? Hello, anybody....anybody mind waking up in bed next to Limbaugh in the morning? Is it just me, or is sharing the sheets with Kristol actually kind of disgusting? I'm just wondering, you know, just so I can update my apparently foolish notions about progressives and democrats and all that. Thanks.

Hi, mod mom. :hi: I hope you're around to hear Obama this a.m. And I did write to Scarborough telling him what I thought about him. I asked if tearing down Obama was in his morning meme today, as he discussed on Maher. Of course, he won't address it, but I wanted him to know we're on to him.

Obama has hit back sooner and harder that Kerry did and that's a good thing. Unless Obama is able to put this to rest now, you can be sure that the 527's are going to use it later if he is our nominee. What really scares me is being faced with President John McCain.

48. I'm not convinced that Kerry lost on account of the swiftboating
Edited on Tue Mar-18-08 09:30 AM by alcibiades_mystery
Although it's clear that that thesis has taken on the status of a sacred cow among some Clinton fanatics, if only to justify their non-stop attacks as a supposed "testing vehicle," and to warrant all manner of collaboration with right wing stupidity.

It could be, rather, that Kerry lost because he was a bad candidate and because the timing was just wrong, that the thin slice of people who decided the race just weren't ready to change ships mid-course, and that the "Swiftboating" barely affected that decision. But this is the typical anti-democratic tendency of many "professional" Democrats: they take the public for fools, and think they know better; they take the public for an easily manipulable herd that is always subject to the sway of bad arguments. It shows in their approach, which is condescending to a fault, arrogant without limitation, and very manifestly contrary to their supposed progressive messages. If only the dumb public weren't so stupid, weren't so easily led by demagogues, this theory goes, we would win every time. It couldn't possibly be that people simply - and for good reasons of their own - disagree with the platform or candidate, right? It's because they're stupid sheep. That's the underlying philosophy of all these "But Kerry got Swiftboated" posts. And it is despicable elitist nonsense. The GOP has made good use of it, and will continue to do so as long as Democrats shit on the public at every opportunity, or when faced with any counterargument.

What's devastatingly clear is that the Swiftboating has turned some Democrats into a pack of craven cowards and cringing wimps, deathly afraid of any media story. In that sense, it has served its purpose well by removing from a significant portion of Democrats the only thing that really wins elections: courage, heart, boldness, confidence, strength in one's convictions, and clarity of message.

9. I know only what I've read on this site. And it doesn't thrill me.
Edited on Tue Mar-18-08 08:06 AM by WinkyDink
Rev. Jackson, in 1984, spoke at Lafayette College in Easton, PA.
HE spoke of UNITY.
HE acted positively, registering young voters right there, calling them down from the bleachers.
HE spoke to COMMON problems, such as poverty, the need for better education, etc.

I don't get this vibe from Rev. Wright. I get a racially-divisive one, a "look back in anger" one. That is NOT to opine that he isn't well-justified or within his rights; it is to say that, as a figure closely associated with a Presidential candidate, particularly one who claims HE is the path to UNITY, the Rev. Wright's rhetoric does that candidate NO FAVORS vis-a-vis a future appeal to the ENTIRE electorate.

And THAT is why this story will NOT go away soon.

It has even been on the nightly news editions on CBS, NBC, and ABC. This is not just a Faux News story!! It is potentially damaging to Obama. The polling is also showing that it has been damaging to him since last Friday. I am glad the the Clinton campaign has not commented on this at all. I am sure it will blow over once Obama gives his speech today. At least I hope so....

seen how many Hillary supporters were posting about their concerns for Obama's campaign while the Obama supporters were downplaying it and pretending that it would be gone in a day or two. There are many of us who would like to see this matter put to rest NOW. We realize that there is a good chance that Obama will be the Democratic nominee in this election and anything that hurts him now could hurt us all later. We realize where this is coming from and who loves it, but I don't think you will find any rational Hillary supporters who are celebrating this story.

Hillary would be the weaker candidate and the easiest for McCain to knock off in the GE, it stands to reason that they would attack Obama to keep him from getting the nomination.

It tells me only what I've already suspected-- neither candidate will get preferential treatment from the republican machine.

It tells me that the targets on the backs of candidate are the same size.

It tells me that either candidate will get vilified and damned to the same degree regardless of who that eventual candidate may be.

It tells me that the GOP machine is extremely equal opportunity when it comes to dirty tricks and tearing down Democrats.

The whole thing stinks to high heaven. It is time to find a way to turn off the spigot of hate and manipulation.
As an American, a woman and white I have heard worse eating breakfast after church with my fellow Christians. We are morally blind and deaf to everything other than our own position in the world. From that we don't think as well as the average 4yr. old.
Folks it is time to reach across the chasms and limitations of our own viewpoints and try to connect with the hurts we have caused each other and to those we have labeled different and unworthy. It should be easier for us the professed liberal/progressives.
We have no right to judge because we just don't know all of the facts that make another's life experience.
