How I Chose between Barack and Hillary (after tossing them both under the bus so long ago)
How I Chose between Barack and Hillary
(after tossing them both under the bus so long ago)

Barack long ago told me that as a "Secularist" I was wrong to ask "believers" to check their religions at "the door" of the "public square."

He explained that his position on gay marriage (and who knows what else) was a direct result not of his sense of right and wrong, not of his understanding of the Constitution of the United States of America, but of his "faith."

And because I, as a "Secularist," have put my "faith" in the Constitution, I had to look elsewhere for a presidential candidate.

Don't get me wrong; people can believe whatever they want as long as I get to make fun of them. But if they want to work for me, in my government, under my Constitution, they must check their religions at "the door." My Constitution always comes first.

And even before Barack came along, Hillary told me that war (and who knows what else) is the business of the warmakers. She told me that I should put my "faith" in them, as did she, to do what is best. She told me that politics is not about the will of the people, not about transparency, not about me, not about the Constitution, but about putting "faith" in power brokers who make decisions in secret, behind closed doors, based on highly sensitive "intelligence" and the like.

Again I had to look elsewhere for a presidential candidate.

But the fact of the matter is that I never found one. I'm left to choose between Barack and Hillary.

I must either choose to fight a "faith"-based war against Barack, or surrender my "faith" to the likes of Hillary.

No-brainer.

I choose to fight for change. I will never surrender to the likes of Hillary.

1. I had the same problem as you when selecting a candidate
I don't like Barack's stand on GLBT issues or religion. But it's the lesser of two evils at this point. Barack might not be a great candidate, especially for a bisexual atheist like myself, but I'm more concerned with Hillary's warmongering, secretive, corporate-beholding ways.

2. um, Obama's stand on GLBT issues is minimally better than
Hillary's and certainly it was as good as any dem who ran- with the exception of Dennis, who was not a serious candidate.

3. It's my understanding that his opinion on gay marriage is that it should be up to the states.
I'm ok with that. I see a benefit in individual states having more power
and having to be more responsive to their own voters rather than having
the federal government dictate & try to manage everything. The country
is too huge and diverse for that.

6. ok.. of course you are right.
I have an unconventional view of marriage anyway... I've always considered it more of a civil right to be allowed to live with someone without being married and that it's nobody else's business. So I'm overlooking the importance of it to others for whom it matters. Mea culpa.

4.  At least Centerist Obama "gets" Dean's 50 state strategy
With Hillary all the authority and decision making is centralized to herself and a handful of top aides.
How can she be so dumb not to get it?

GObama!
Go Dean's 50 State Strategy!
Go Grassroots!

8. She's run her campaign like she would run the government.
She doesn't talk directly to the people, everything is secret, and you never know if she means what she's saying to the media.

9. Yes, that's my sense of her and a big reason why I started paying more attention
to Sen.Obama. Then I got hooked.
