Well done Clinton supporters...You just made Obama President!
Today's speech will be remembered for a long time. This is one of those moments that go down in history, a moment people point to.

Obama just turned a negative into a HUGE POSITIVE.

1. What does that have to do with Clinton supporters?
Edited on Tue Mar-18-08 01:36 PM by democrattotheend
And why are we undermining Obama's message of unity by antagonizing them?

Honor Obama's call for unity, take the pledge: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x5138048

Change the title and it's a good post.

And let's watch the polls. I have a feeling that Obama just created a real problem for his campaign.

19. I don't believe this speech could be seen
in a negative light, jlake. Take the blinders off, listen to the speech. It was amazingly honest. This was a truly amazing speech. He didn't deny there was a problem...What he did do was inspire people to solve the problem.

5. But but...Hillary says it's ALSO about gender....and whether the president can deliver on speeches.
Hillary on Obama's speech:

...

Clinton, speaking at Philadelphia City Hall, began by preempting questions about Obama's speech:

"I did not have a chance to see or to read yet Sen. Obama’s speech, but I’m very glad that he gave it. It’s an important topic," she said. "Issues of race and gender in America have been complicated throughout our history, and they have been complicated in this primary campaign. There have been detours and pitfalls along the way."

She continued that the fact that the Democratic Party is set to nominate an African-American or a woman is something Americans "should celebrate."

Then she turned back to why Democrats should choose her.

"The opportunity for America will be in choosing a president who will best solve the big challenges our country faces," she said.

Also, she took a little dig at speeches, in general. What matters, she said, isn't the quality of the speeches:

"It's whether the president delivers on the speeches."

29. Just curious. What did you expect her to say about the speech?
If she had not seen it or read it yet, there is not much that she can comment on at this point, other than praise him for making the speech. Since she is also running for the nomination, it is only natural that she reminds her audience why they should choose her.

13. It was a very good speech
but let's not overdo it.

A speech before reporters on a tuesday morning isn't going to rank up there with "I Have a Dream".

It's not even the speech itself - it's the lack of occasion. He had to give it to quell a controversy.

17. I expect it to be vastly dominating his stump speech -
and that will give it further credence. As I've said in other topics today... Regardless of whether you like the candidate or not - the speech will be labeled historic and likely set the tone for future opportunity in this country as we move forward. It was a long over do speech, and one that I NEVER in my lifetime thought I would hear in that magnitude and directness from a politician.

or racism had to lead to this place. And once again along comes Obama to stomp out the fire. I'm sure Clinton's scorched earth strategy will bring on more fires, but I don't think there's enough oxygen left in the race game to sustain the blaze.
