An Obama aide told me today that Obama felt he needed to give this speech but didn't want to dwell on race — and, sure enough, he's changing the subject:

CHICAGO — Tomorrow, Wednesday, March 19, 2008, five years after the Iraq war began, Sen. Barack Obama will deliver a major speech on the war in Iraq and our national security in Fayetteville, N.C. Sen. Obama will discuss how ending the war in Iraq is necessary for the United States to meet the national security challenges of the 21st century and to advance American interests throughout the world.

On Thursday, March 20, 2008, Sen. Barack Obama will deliver a major speech on Iraq and the economy in Charleston, W.Va., where he will address the costs of the war in Iraq on our economy.

1. I am grinning from ear to ear -- THIS is exactly what he should be doing
We haven't had real leadership in this country for 8 years, as crises have popped
up right and left. Obama is acting presidential already by grappling with these,
now on a daily basis.

8. Where has he been all this time while serving in our Senate?

Why not major speeches then?

What about those mountains in WV and VA being leveled for "clean coal". It does not exist. He and Durbin are pulling for it.

11.  I think most people who pay attention already know this
We already know what the war costs are and how they affect the economy . We know the horrors of war and the conditions it has brought .

Until there is someone in office with a plan on how to get out and repair relations with the ME if this is even possible now then we may have a start .

As of today the US is the terrorist and looked at by the world as one . The Iraqis are not going to forget what we as americans have allowed when a very high percentage of americans wanted this war in 2003 .

No one can ever make this go away and moving on is not going to help this .

I know if we as american were in the same position as the Iraqis we would not forget .

No speech will change this or make it go away . It's far to late for words now , we had the chance not to allow this to happen and we did nothing so now we pay the long and painful price which is our fault .

I never wanted to attack Afghanistan or Iraq after 9/11 , I never wanted bush in there . Yet we allowed two stolen elections and we allowed this attack and we continue to sit back and allow the economy to be stolen and still do nothing .

Sorry but an election of speech is not going to do it now . I wish it could but I gave up dreaming long ago .

I just can't get past all the people who have died or continue to suffer for me to sit here and feel good about moving on when so many were left behind .

Without all the stolen money taken back from the crooks and given back to those it was taken from and those who committed these crimes jailed and the ones sent to Iraq to be dealt with by the Iraqis on their terms and the americans in NOLA given back their homes and the people suffering from 9/11 ills taken care of and the soldiers taken care of then we have failed and left people behind who deserve to be first and foremost in prioity .

No speech can do this , no president can do this , no one can do this .
