I believe neither Hillary Clinton or John McCain would choose to address the nation on a topic such as ANGER--black anger, white anger, American anger--to say nothing of delivering it so effectively. Some of you may scoff, but it IS a very relevant topic, considering--Bush's approval rating is at 19%, the Congress is deadlocked, the Economy is going down the tubes, the Gulf Coast is still in disrepair, the Immigration issue has been dominated by the Xenophobic--and yes, the war rages on. Up until now, Obama has spoken merely of optimism, an optimism his rivals have attempted to embrace as their own. Now, he has finally--FINALLY--addressed the other side of the coin and talked extensively about the dark side of America's past (not just it's ugly present) that many would rather ignore--or deny.
McCain and Clinton would love to channel the voters' anger into votes, but as of today, only Obama has had the courage to TALK about it. Why? Not because of his skin color--he indicates upfront that he is just as white as he is black. No, it's because he's the only candidate who can speak on such a topic without becoming or appearing enraged himself. McCain blows up at his colleagues. Hillary raises her voice. Obama speaks softly and lets his words do the talking for him. And I find myself fully agreeing with him: there are a lot of reasons for us all to be angry, but we can turn that rage into positive thinking if we try hard enough.
I have nothing but respect for him at this point. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Obama is still the best one in the race.
