San Diego Union Tribune: It's Over. Obama's the Nominee.
It was extremely unlikely that Hillary Clinton was going to overcome Barack Obama's lead in delegates, states and total votes and take the Democratic nomination, but Obama's speech this morning -- graceful, thoughtful, nuanced, sweeping, challenging, unprecedented -- pretty much wiped out any chance at all. It was a speech Hillary could never have given -- really, few U.S. politicians ever could have given.

I write this not just because I think this will dampen the Rev. Wright controversy. I write this because Obama did an extraordinary job of presenting himself as the candidate of "the better angels of our nature," to use the phrase from Abraham Lincoln's first inaugural address. His speech isn't just inspirational to millions of voters who are tired of cynicism and division. I think many in the political media will see it as redemptive on personal grounds. Maybe they really aren't spending their careers in swampland.

Which not-so-coincidentally is the name of Time magazine's fine national politics blog.

6. Speech for votes and church goers...eh?
What about that Constitution, ending this illegal war today, impeaching a lying President, getting out of the WTO, etc, ?

4. Obama will most likely be the nominee.
But to state that it is over because of this speech - is false. It's over because he absolutely dominated Hillary in the stretch from after Super Tuesday to Ohio and Texas.

I am a little less enthuiastic about his chances to win the general election - and personally I don't think this speech will have as much impact among swing voters as many Obama supporters thinks it will.

13. I've always been for Obama.
I was worried about the Wright thing would hurt him and was called a Hillarybot because I thought it would have th potential to hurt his candidacy.... but now I think only the far far right will be obsessed with going after him about this story...idk we'll see.

bringing this up over and over imo seems lame now.

33. It's tough being rational in GDP, eh?
I believe the Wright linkage may hurt Obama some in the GE, but it may be partially offset by McCain's eager support of Hagee, Parsley, Falwell *and* Robertson.

11. I feel like I'm reading Macbeth
A prediction is made, and the making of the prediction actually becomes its cause (that is, you predict Obama's speech will have such an effect, and hope that by making that prediction, people will listen and their attitudes change).

Because there sure isn't any evidence, as of yet, that would verify what you said.

There.

Anybody paying attention knows Obama will be the nominee.

18. seriously?
That's your evidence? The effect of something on something else can not be judged by events that happened before (in this case, your delegate count numbers). I am talking about the effect of this speech on the future of the race.

If you wanted evidence of the effect of a certain tax bill on the economy this year, would you look at what happened last year (hypothetically speaking)?

Anyway, that really wasn't even the point of my post.

What a speech! I thought he sounded very presidential. I like his temperament in the face of adversity. It will serve him and the citizens well in the future. I hope the entire world heard this speech!
