An Ode to Clinton Supporters and Thoughts on Fence Sitting
Dear Clinton Supporter,

I admire your passion and commitment. I do without reservation.

Yes I think that Senator Clinton is now engaged in a campaign that is primarily motivated by her own personal quest for power and that she is not putting the interests of the party at heart.

But you are not. You fight, argue and scream. Sometimes you (like some of us) are rude and overbearing. Sometimes passion will do that - and I love that you are still passionate.

Yes I think that many of the positions that you now defend are ridiculous. But the campaigns we support sometimes put is in untenable positions. You end up having to explain something quite strange that originated with Mark Penn or someone else and it really doesn't represent your honest intellectual preference but like the courageous civil war teenager you will not let your flag hit the ground - good for you. Of course I will take a shot and ridicule but I know that you, like I, would have preferred a fight relying only on our better angels.

In a country that is 95% self absorbed about trivial and material concerns you still care and you still fight and even though you drive me crazy I admire that and prefer you to the 95% that would prefer to be sheep. I will not even urge you to join us in the end. You do not need me to make that decision. In some cases your passion and hurt will make that impossible for some time and for some that will be past the election. I still applaud you.

To the Fence Sitters:

I have noticed four types of fence sitters

1) People who are not excited and not conflicted just waiting for the nominee. Often interesting and refreshing they usually have opinions that don't fit the mold.

2)People who are genuinely conflicted. Additional time will probably not make it any easier and if you feel compelled to enter before it is finally decided that time is now. With Florida and Michigan not re voting if you want to voice an opinion before the end of the fourth quarter then its time to suit up and decide.

3) People who curse both candidates. I am not talking about the person who misses Joe or Bill or John or Dennis, but the one that keeps saying that these two candidates are ruining the party and are on their knees begging for a brokered convention so that someone who was not successful before can now lead us to success - please I would rather have a blow out argument with a rabid Clinton supporter than you.

3) The professorial evaluator. "This campaign deserves a point here and I give this campaign a deduction there". Really. Without this self appointed dean we could not have been able to see a stumble or a slam dunk. Again I would rather be roasted by a Clinton supporter who has caught my enthusiasm running past my brain.

Waiting for a grateful following to ask you to guide us to reconciliation, don't bother, those leaders will be from the vanquished side. Those that have opened themselves up and fought and lost - those are the ones that I respect and at the right time will listen to.

Finally to the Clinton supporter I hope that you will soon be on our side with the same passion you now demonstrate.

4. yup but sometimes you see people standing up for the other candidate
that makes you really proud to be a Democrat

There were threads a couple of weeks ago slamming Hillary for her legal defense of a rapist. It was filled with Obama supporters defending her.

Today there are Clinton supporters admiring the speech.

8. Indeed!
This should be said about both camps.

And there is a fourth type not noted... those of us who don't see a lot of difference between the two and are extremely happy to support whomever gets the nomination, and despite the rhetoric spewed around here, know the end is near but the race cannot yet be called.

14. Some of us are still very excited!
And very attentive to what both candidates have to say. It's the supporters of both candidates that need to tone it down and stay away from the negativity... it's getting so very ugly and that helps no one.

15. point taken it should have been written better. My meaning was not excited in favor of
one particular candidate over the other. You are exactly the type of poster I had in mind when I was referring to in saying they tend not to fit the mold and have refreshing opinions.

16. Well, thanks for that!
When I support something Hillary said, I'm labeled an Obamaniac... and when I stand up for Obama, I'm called a Hillbot... I'm neither and you are among a very few here who understand this category exists.

2. As someone who likes both candidates, let me say...
Both Obama and Clinton supporters need to stop fighting with each other and focus on making McCain look like the idiot that he is. That's what matters.

From what I've seen, there are just as many asshole Obama supporters as there are asshole Clinton supporters.

7. We fight because we feel deeply passionate about the race
that is a good thing in a world that cares more about who is voted off American Idol.

13. That's all good and well, but while we are fighting with each other,
McCain is sitting back laughing at our dumb asses.

It's misdirected passion. As much as you might hate to believe it, both Obama and Clinton are both on the same side, and attacking each other is just throwing more wood on the fire that will eventually envelop our party if we're not careful.

I don't give a damn if Clinton is attacking Obama. That's her decision (as stupid of one as it may be). That doesn't make it OK for us to start attacking each other as well.

3. LOL! Your four types sum it up perfectly. Especially the ones
who come along and wish aloud for a brokered convention so that SOMEONE, ANYONE else will win the nomination--yuck.

5. In all fairness... this should have been directed to both...
Hillary and Obama supporters, because it rings true for both.

I support neither... I voted Edwards... I feel that Hillary and Obama are very much alike and not worth all this infighting... and I feel your comments work well for both camps. Directing them solely at Clinton supporters is rather passive-aggressive and not in the best of taste.

10. Unless someone has not already voted...
Fence sitting is not only completely appropriate, but considering the infighting here, preferred behavior. And the perspective is far more clear to those NOT in either camp.

21. It's interesting to see you say that...
wasn't it you who posted the lyrics to "cult of personality" today?

I saw you in the thread about Hillary's support for WH lies about Iraq being a threat, attempting to stifle discussion of her comments.

Would you please do me a big favor and direct me to an instance where you chided someone for trashing Obama, or Obama's supporters? Please?
