Obama condems Imus but holds Wright up
"I understand MSNBC has suspended Mr. Imus," Obama told ABC News, "but I would also say that there's nobody on my staff who would still be working for me if they made a comment like that about anybody of any ethnic group. And I would hope that NBC ends up having that same attitude."

http://www.abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=3031317&page=1

And I am a constitutional lawyer and strongly believe in free speech, but as a culture,we really have to do some soul-searching to think about what kind of toxic information are we feeding our kids,"

He had no problem taking his kids to learn from Wright.

7. As a white person, I was not offended by Rev. Wright's remarks
Like the ancient Israelite prophet Jeremiah, Rev. Wright was railing against injustices and abuse of power that he saw committed by the ruling elite, which is predominately white; whereas, Rev. Falwell and Pat Robertson coddled the corrupt ruling elite and attacked those who had no or little power to safeguard America -- feminists, pagans, homosexuals, etc..

having been in places in East Texas for H&W that most whites have never seen; I also know he is accurate. I think the problem with many posters on DU is that they have lead protected lives far from the dismal realities that most impoverished and lower middle class blacks face even when compared to whites' impoverished and lower middle class areas.

This is an example of Obama's racial divide in my opinion. What Imus said was nothing comparable to Wright yet he calls what Imus said as toxic for kids yet he takes his kids to listen to Wright. This in and of itself is hypocrisy.

30. Here is my feelings of Obama on Imus/Wright
After watching the videos and seeing the obvious reception by his followers I would hope that most would reputiate the things that Wright said, but I have inner feeling that this is not so.
At least Wright is saying what he believes. Does Obama feel the same way?
Is he hiding his true feeling because he's going for the top job? Does his upbringing and earlier teaching create problems?
Is race going to be the biggest factor in this election?
If anyone says anything about Obama, or attempts to ask questions, are they being racist?
If these questions are honest information seeking inquiries seeking his views, and infringe on his past, are they racist?

Things Wright said, the Holloway Investigation, AIDS, Clinton/Lewinski scandle are just a few things I found as bad as Imus' statements.

36. You watched a 2 minute video out of a 30+ year career,
misinterpreted it and now want to know if Obama feels the same way?

Maybe it's time to rely less on your feelings about Wright and go to the church's website and read something. Because this has been a smear from top to bottom.

And, why do you have so many fearful questions about Obama in regards to this issue when you yourself haven't bothered to find out anything on your own besides watching a 2 minute video that Fox is hawking.

If I were Obama, I'd have doubts about you.

this half-assed post deserves it. You want to compare Imus calling a group of young women whores to Obama's Pastor? You do understand some African-Americans have a reason to hate America sometimes, especially in a country that almost condoned a radio personality calling some members of the African-American community whores. Did you think before you typed or does shit naturally fall out of you?

22. These posts describing Wright, that church and the black community
as HATING, hateful or teaching hatred are bullshit.

His comments were about US government policy, not the white race. If we want to disagree with him that our country is run by rich white men, well, we'd be wrong.

If you go to the church's website, it's clear that it is doing amazing work and that although a "black" church, it has a significant number of white congregants, including mostly white student groups who are also interested in building the community.

These posts are disinfo and in themselves, hateful.

26. What has Imus ever said or done that is inspiring? That would cause one
to be willing to overlook an occasional transgression? How many social action programs has he run? How many families has he helped?

I missed that, somehow.

Also, I missed the part where Imus himself, as he was growing up and as a young man, suffered all the evils of segregation -- which would certainly explain a good deal of bitterness.
